Damn

I've just got fed up waiting for it to finish off and do something. It had filled the download bar but then sat there doing nothing for half an hour so pressed the menu button to cancel. What's the betting that if I'd left it for another 5 mins it would have installed?
I hate that, waiting around while the tech does it's thing without letting the poor user know exactly what it's doing.
Just started it again but it's only got 55 mins to sort itself out as I'll need to swap the aerial back over to the T7650 box for tonight's recordings

Cheers. Tom

Yep, 90 minutes here. Have to remember that it is approx 26Mb file, compared to the 2Mb so of previous boxes, so it is going to take much longer especially with encoding overhead. Updates over internet are obviously better or leave overnight to update. BTW, you can press the EXIT to skip the internet update part (which won't find anything newer).

For Hitachi, datestamp is 2016-03-03-20-06-35. Frustrated and disappointed nothing has been fixed since .

Will you be able to make it available as a download on your site? I've set the box up in the back room and have started it again but have also enabled auto updates just in case.

If/when it is available as internet update, yes I will make a USB update file for my site. The previous OAD for Hitachi was made available as an internet update a short while after the OAD, so hopefully the same will happen this time.

Just to add another confirmation to the others that have already said.
V1.22.1 and we've still got the freeze. I was hoping that there may have been local variations with relays and the like but, no.

Surely it must be time for the regulatory/infrastructure authorities to get involved on this. A few months ago when certain models of Samsung TVs developed a sound dropout issue both the BBC and Samsung put fixes in place after a couple of months. The Vestel issue has gone on far longer and I don't see how they can use the Freeview+ logo if they are not meeting an adequate recording/playback standard.

Well said that man.

It has been an issue for quite some time hasn't it? Although they might use the logic that because it only (seemingly) affects winter hill, it might not be classed as a full failure.
Having said that, winter hill has one of the largest catchment areas in the country.........

Not just Winter Hill....

Updated here (Malvern) and had 2 freezes that evening.....

Also still get the "Service not running" spoilers when switching to BBC1 in some situations (unknown) (no internet connection on my box).

Hi futaura I got a message on my box saying this box needs to reboot to do some housekeeping, what's that all about?

Hmmm... No idea . If it was just now, perhaps it was warning about the update checker which presumably still does something at 3am.

Meant to follow this up earlier... Contrary to my initial comment, It's nothing to do with overnight updates, but a filesystem capacity issue which is detected and fixed by the housekeeping. So, nothing to worry about. Is more likely to happen with 1Tb drives.

I assume the freezes are still happening? Just checking as wondering if recent Freeview changes (which have broken DS/Sony boxes), might magically have solved the freeze problem. A long shot but we never get to know what they tinker with behind the scenes.

Hi futaura
Further to my correspondence with you just over a month ago I can confirm that I have not had a single freeze on my refurbished Bush T7655 since I acquired it 5 weeks ago and it is in daily record and playback use. ( For info. my signal comes from Winter Hill and this despite the fact that my previous 3 T7655s (1x Hitachi, 2x Bush TRN) had all frozen regularly leading to them being returned.

Got to ask.

What version of the firmware are you using?

1.22.1 - this has got me wondering... Assuming it is not a hardware issue, there is also the lower level firmware to consider (kernel, CFE, etc) which doesn't get modified in regular software updates. I don't know if this was ever actually modified since the early pre-v1.15 boxes, but if it did get fixed/updated along the way, this could explain why older boxes are freezing even after updating the software.

To be honest, Prestonian's findings tend to confuse matters . It is a pity there is not an easier way to log the debug output from these boxes, as the information sent over serial could be used to compare exactly which firmware version is in place - I don't think there is a way to find out from the user interface. It is probable that all boxes are affected, but it is a mystery why some are more severely affected than others.

Can I ask everyone to take a look through the air vents on the top their boxes to see what make if hard drive us fitted? Just wondering whether this could be a factor. My newest (faulty) T7655 retail unit from Argos has a Western Digital drive, whereas my other two T7655 boxes (Amber2 and Emerald) both have Toshiba drives.
