How the hell did that Richard guy get four yes'?

Am actually astonished I have no idea what the audience or the judges were hearing but from my prespective it looked like he was jumping around on stage aimlessly wailing horrific vocals to backings of magnificent songs. Yet there were better acts who got nos? Like Emma Winter from last week who had a magnificent voice but a bad backing. I'm actually baffled?

Well he didn't really, he got 3, because David was just pretending Simon had said yes. But even 3 seems far too many!

Ahh okay. but still 3? I didn't see anything special about his act? Was it out of pity?

So they could have a 'fun' act in the live shows.

I have to put it down to bad editing... there's no way what we heard at home garnered 3 yeses.

Semi final fodder

It just encourages more people with no talent to audition thinking they have a chance of getting through.

LOL

They need these "filler" acts in the semi finals to ensure the favoured ones look incredible in comparison at get more votes.

If Richard does reach one of the semi finals, I'll be surprised if he doesn't rank low down on the public vote.

In short, he's there to make up the numbers.

They like to have some rubbish acts in the semi finals so that the buzzers are not redundant.

I had to put the telly on mute, he was way out of tune and couldnt sing and to me well i almost felt sorry for him. Delusional comes to mind and the judges are just feeding it.

It really beggars belief. He was badly out of tune. I can only imagine that the way he moved was enjoyable to people in the audience. It's total double standards because anyone else with the same voice but not moving around as much would have gotten a No from all four judges. Halfway through his act I was actually wondering why three of the judges hadn't buzzed him. I say three because David Walliams sometimes gives some acts a yes that clearly don't deserve it.

The part where they decide what act is deemed good enough to go to the semis/live shows?

I reckon before each contestant goes on stage to audition, the stage manager briefs the judges beforehand so they know who is up next and what to expect.

The audience are probably briefed too, or during the audition they have a floor manager near the stage (out of shot of the cameras) holding up "CHEER" "LAUGH" "APPLAUSE" captions basically telling the audience what they're meant to be doing.

I'd love to be in the audience for BGT. If I spotted a camera on me whilst everyone else is cheering some garbage act, I'd be looking directly into the camera shruging my shoulders and mouthing the words "I don't know?".

So...not boot camp, then?

I mean the acts don't have to perform again, they just stand around waiting to be told if they're in the lives or not.

X Factor has a boot camp stage, though.

Well, let's call it stage 2 then, if not boot camp.

Blame the audience.

Or blame the floor manager prancing about in front of the stage holding up the cue card "DANCE" or "CLAP" i.e. telling the audience how to react.

I've noticed it on both BGT and X Factor. If you're absolutely crap at the live audition but the audience appear to enjoy it, you will get at least 3 yes's.
