The Target covers evoke so many memories for me, I would pour over the artwork of Chris Achilleos and Jeff Cummins staring at them longer than what would be considered beyond normal and immersing myself in every detail of every brush stroke or dot of pointillism.
One of my favourite pieces of merchandise growing up in the late 1970s was having the Target Monster Book full-colour poster adorned on my bedroom wall. Then in the late 80s WH Allen had those fabulous poster packs which I framed and proudly hung up in my 'WHO Room'.

Some more details here in another article.
Great photos of the event, and what must be a rare event to see three script writers/editors from three very different decades together!

Thanks Daniel Dare the pictures look brilliant. Good to see 'Uncle Terry' alive and well

I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall in the conversation with Dicks,Saward and Moffat. Was Saward expressing disapproval of the current series or was Stephen Moffat listening intently as a fan lol

The name Andrew Skilleter and the artwork oh my gosh brings back memories. I need to dig out my Target novelisations out from the top of the bedroom wardrobe

I think in some ways I actually preferred the Target novels to watching the shows. Particularly when the were well written versions of good stories and older stories I hadn't seen but then saw later (in part or in full). Added to that if they had a great cover and the occasional image of an action scene in various chapters, it really let your imagination run wild.

Usually its sounds or smell that brings back lovely childhood memories but in this instance its visual recollections -which is pretty rare and pretty special.

If I lived a little closer to London I'd definitely be going along to the exhibition. Great stuff.

I'd have enjoyed visiting this, but, living rather more than a little north of the capital as I do, sadly I won't be able to get down to London during its incredibly short run.

Went today to see this and I would definitely recommend it . I found it eventually as its a tiny place next to a pub in the Holborn/ Bloomsbury area. Don't rely on Google maps entirely is all I'll say!

There's not a massive display of the illustrations for the Target books but there is enough from each artist to highlight their individual contributions and style.

There is also a really interesting exhibition on the British graphic novel which is quite extensive and fits in nicely theme wise around the books. Was really delighted to see an illustration from Dave Gibbons who was one of my favourite contributors to the Doctor Who Weekly/ Monthly magazine comic in the 1980's

Oh there is also a gift shop and don't we all love one of those !!!

I dont need to go to a exhibition to see them though.

All I have to do is look in my box in the attic and every single cover is there.

I don't need to go to the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa either, I can see it whenever I watch City of Death.

I wish I hadn't thrown out most of my Target books years ago.
I loved some of them like the original covers for Planet of the Spiders and Robot, which had an almost comic strip like look to them, and covers like Invasion of the Dinosaurs with that 'Krack!' . I'd love a framed print of that in my home office.

It's actually 'K-Klak!' and one of the best flash-words around.
As mentioned above, you could buy it at one time, it was one of a set of five in a poster pack, all A3 in size.
Here it is: http://merchandise.thedoctorwhosite....rget-novels-2/
You can still get a deluxe print direct from Chris Achilleos but they're very, very costly compared to the original price of the poster pack, so your best bet is having a search for the original pack on ebay as they do turn up quite often.

Oh you'd go to the Louvre, with your diversionary tactics and felt tip.

Seriously, know what you mean. The footage of an increasingly impressively coiffured Capaldi geeking out at the exhibition was lovely.

When I was a kid I only had 5 at most, there was a big hardback case that had 5 stories I think one was Fury and another was a Colin Baker one but years later found a guy selling a complete set for 250 which I grabbed straight away and he even threw in for free a few other ones like the Colin Baker unaired stories.#

It goes nicely with my doctor who magazines.

Cheers for that info. I'll keep a weather eye out. The invasion print framed, would look good in my home office. One of the walls just doesn't look right with what's on it right now (unframed print of a faux boxing poster of Anakin Skywalker vs Kenobi called 'Brouha on Mustapha') and that would be perfect.
