Hardly any of the acts that take part in the show are amateur, only the few joke acts that they always put in.
I don't think that's entirely true. Amateur doesn't mean untrained. It means you don't make money from it. There are lots of very talented amateur singers who are trained more than some pros. They just choose to not make money from it.

An amazing 3.6 million people have viewed Jasmines performance on You Tube, and she has 42k likes. I am so pleased for her.

Between the extremes of an amateur who has no training or experience and a professional with celebrity name recognition, there is a huge range of performers.

You can have a following on social media, but no real world exposure. You can make a living singing background vocals, but be completely anonymous. You can be well-known in your city, but unknown 50 miles away. I could go on.

It's even trickier in the case of a child who has no "day job" to worry about. I think all the children auditioning for BGT can be said to be actively trying to break into show business. None of them decided to try out on a whim.

Almost 5m views for young Jasmine on You tube, with 50k likes which is incredible.

Hope that she will have a good song choice for her semi final performance.

That's an accurate statement, we met Jasmine on several shows in the past.

At the risk of getting roundly flamed, have just caught up with Jasmine's show and really could not see what was so amazing about her that reduced Alesha and Amanda to such emotional wrecks. Yes, she was good but she wasn't that good...

Must be just me

I think singing should be banned from this show. That's what we have the X Factor and The Voice for.

I think it is probably just you tbh. She is an amazing talent for her age.

I think for Alesha, it triggered something personal. Those were happy tears.
I thought Jasmine deserved the Golden buzzer.

Suppose so. The song in itself didn't seem that sad to me, I thought it was an unusual arrangement of that particular one. Anyway, good luck to her; she does have a good voice, don't get me wrong

She didn't reduce me to tears but I still think she has a great singing voice though. It could be that Amanda and Alesha are emotional women.

I was the same. I thought she was fine for her age and she seems like a sweet girl, but I didn't understand the emotional outpouring. It's just hard to take late 90s Cher that seriously.

And that song doesn't suit a power ballad arrangement...

My favourite act of this years show, and very much hope that she will make it through to the final this evening. Hope that she has chosen a good song choice.

Thought it was semi final 4, but I guess I was mistaken. Thanks again.

I disagree. I hate the original and usually hate John Lewis versions of songs but I got emotional listening to Jasmine performing.
No idea why as I'm not an emotional or sentimental person but it just triggered something

Love that, "John Lewis versions." The perfect description!

She is favourite, so yes I will. If she performs like she did in the audition she has a great chance.

I would love to see her win the show, but it would be difficult as she would be up against Beau, and the votes might be split between the two of them wich would mean that Richard Jones will probably win the whole thing. I hope I am wrong though.
