Burn radio to cd recorder

Hi There,

Is it possible using a portable dvd/cd burner to record radio from dab using the headphone socket. I am aware that most burners are usb driven but that you can get them with a power lead as well. Also if I get a cable that has usb at one end and 3.5 jack at other end will this work.

Your valuable experience would be appreciated

Simple answer - no

Long complicated techy answer - no.

A simple bit of wire with a 3.5mm jack one end and a USB socket the other end cannot possibly convert the analogue audio signals on the headphone socket into the digital data and control signals required by the USB CD burner.

You need some sort of device that can digitise the analogue audio signals from the radio and then spit that digital data out in a format the CD burner can use. Not to mention also being able to send the appropriate control signals to the burner to actually perform the recording.

You would be better off plugging your radio into the Line In audio socket on a computer and using some software such as Audacity to record the audio to a file on your hard drive then use either the built in capabilities of Windows or some third party software to burn that file to CD.

Yes you can!

Longwinded, but audio out to microphone/audio in on your PC/laptop, then you need the right software to capture it. There's free stuff available as alluded to above (Audacity), I paid for Magix Audio Cleaner, which allowed me to transfer all my cassette recordings to MP3 (and could alter the quality a bit).

So not quite the answer you were looking for; but hope it helps a bit.

A different approach - if it's stuff which is on BBC iplayer - then a piece of software called get_iplayer is the answer - basically it records the stream to your desktop in whatever format you want and can then transfer it to CD accordingly.

Not so good if it's not BBC stuff - but a fairly easy and practical alternative if it is.

Thanks to all who replied to my post. I am going to have a try at get_iplayer option see how it goes.
