Pictures of what may well be underpopulated Logic Board have emerged.

However the most interesting rumours seem to surrounding next years iPhone for its 10th Anniversary. It seems likely that Apple will finally use OLED screens after many year of being rabidly against them. This has been talked about since the beginning of the year and seem to be gaining more weight.

This would suggest this years iPhones will be a relatively minor update and most of the major changes wont be until 2017.

Does anyone really care about iPhone upgrades any more, apart from the real die hard Apple fans that is? The global market is saturated with smartphones, some very good ones some not so good, some better than Apple at cheaper prices.

However, I think the public has now become tired of all the hype and they're just another product these days.

I genuinely fell asleep watching Tim Cook's last performance and Apple seem to have just about given up on their computer division.

I think so too. It's all getting a bit much now. There's even YouTube videos discussing the iPhone 8 which is absolutely ridiculous. Some people clearly need to get out more.

What next - people on internet forums discussing people discussing something they're not much interested in themselves, months before its even a thing?

I think you might be right about people needing to get out more.

Looks like the naming convention for this years iPhone 7 will be iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 Pro. The Pro version will have dual cameras and maybe 256GB of storage option will be available and possibly the end of the crappy 16GB option too.

I use MacRumors and there are a fair few people on there who would rather see updated computers rather than Watch bands and what not.

I agree; iPhone did change the way we use our phones but time has moved on, part of me feels Apple is relying on loyalty and loyalty counts for nothing these days.

I also agree there are some better phones out there for a fraction of the cost; Apple need to realise charging over the odds for lesser specs is going to backfire before they know it.

It says it ends the rumours of an iPhone 7 Pro.

Nothing is 100% confirmed until Apple do their event to show them of to the world. But it does seem likely.

Question of the day - does anyone actually care?

Apple make good stuff but not great stuff anymore. What does the 6s legitimately do that the 6P doesn't do?

3D Touch, 2GB of ram and 12mp camera off the top of my head.
Oh and it doesn't bend so easy 😉.

3D Touch isn't anything special, it can be tricky to use and not really taken advantage of yet. Some apps have that shortcut menu (but that could easily be achieved by a long-press too if necessary).

6P has 3GB of RAM so they actually force iOS devs to struggle with less RAM. At least it's more than 1GB that the 6 had which used to cause constant reloading of webpages on Safari.

12MP camera - the 6P also has a 12.3MP camera so pretty similar there. and it's front-facing camera seems better at 8MP?

It's been a long time since we got a legitimate new feature on smart phones, the vast majority of upgrades from now on are just going to be faster SOC, more RAM, better cameras etc.

Only the Nexus 6p has 3gb RAM and a 12.3mp camera! EDIT: Beaten to that!!

Also, have we found out what these must have features we can't live without are yet?

The Moto G4 Plus I'm testing now is really responsive for £200. I'm perfectly happy using this as my daily driver for now.

What would spending more get me? Better camera, maybe slightly more responsive performance.

I keep thinking about getting an S6/S7 purely because I think they're now the most flexible handsets in terms of carrier support (can easily flash other carrier firmware) and when rooted you can do LTE band selection but then I wonder if it's worth it.

The S6 is £100 or so more than the G4 Plus and the S7 is obviously a lot more than that. I really don't think I would gain much.

The OnePlus 3 seems to be perfect but again, what would I gain?

When at this price point using the phone doesn't feel like it's cheap (i.e. no noticeable lag), you wonder if Samsung and Apple can carry on charging what they do.

Oneplus3 or Moto G4 makes the so called flagship phones look embarrassingly expensive.

Some people will always want an expensive phone though. That's why Samsung has gone down that road and given up on the low-end stuff. It wants to be where Apple is, where people pay top dollar for a phone.

Hence the Note 7 going on sale for £800! It won't be a big seller, but it won't matter as there has to be a good margin on that. It's not that fundamentally different to the GS7e so a good chunk is profit.

It's very easy to start looking at a cheaper phone (£150-200) and gradually upsell yourself because you will think that something cheap surely can't be that good. The reality is that these days, most phones for £100-200 ARE good. I am not saying they're AS good as a £300, £500 or £800 phone - but not everyone needs the extra features.

It seem hard to find a really good camera amongst the cheap-to-mid-range handsets - this being the one item that is invariably noted as less-than-ideal. If some manufacturer can solve this I agree that they do all that most people want.

There are annoying omissions. For example the G4 has no compass which is annoying for mapping apps - and does it have NFC for Android Pay?

Personally I prefer the Moto E to the G in size - and the E3 is out very soon for only £100....but it may (again!) have no compass or NFC!

Yes they are strange and might change things for me but in terms of me just using it at home, I've noticed virtually no difference between this and a Sony Xperia Z5.

What I will say is that the difference between £100 or less and £200 is huge. The Vodafone Smart ultra 7 is awful in comparison to the G4.

Its a bit like cars, Ford versus Bentley - or Seat versus Rolls Royce. They are all cars with roof/engine/stereo etc.

The lack of NFC does tend to exclude it from most buyers list as it can't take advantage of Android Pay.

Is NFC / Android Pay really such a 'must have' though? I'm not convinced.

Contactless cards do just the same job (for payments under £30) with less faff, albeit without the added security layer.

Yes, you do need to have the card with you, unlike with Android Pay. (Though for some people the strategy of leaving the credit card in the drawer at home is very much done on purpose!)

Doh! A Nexus 6P, my bad when I quoted that post I wrongly assumed 6P meant 6Plus
I will return to hibernation
