If the controversy is somehow imagined or not real, why did Apple have to explain the decision on stage?

If it was such a non issue then why mention it at all? I mean, Apple doesn't mention how much RAM a phone has or even state the battery capacity as a matter of course. So just leave it for the spec list.

Or maybe dropping it WAS a big deal and Apple knew it would ruffle some feathers.

Sums it up quite well the real reasons.

I was going to just order one and then if in the next few weeks I'm able to pick one up then I could send the one I ordered back, however looking at Apple's returns policy it says you only have 14 days to return. I've been checking Apple every morning for pickup but nothing. Also been keeping an eye on the istocknow website and pretty much the entire country is showing as out of stock of all iPhones. In fact, the only place which seems to have stock of the iPhones is the U.S and a few places in Europe. The iPhone Plus 128GB though literally nowhere seems to have in stock.”

On another forum I frequent, a guy ordered from Carphone Warehouse and got one the next day. 128GB 7 Plus Matt Black.

Given the coil whine issue that may be to your advantage. Perhaps that's the reason they haven't got stock?

Yes it's a big deal hence why it's almost impossible to buy a new iPhone 7 at the moment because they are sold out everywhere.

I've been looking at istocknow.com all day at work and nowhere in the world has the iPhone Plus 128GB in matt black apart Achorage in Canada and one state in the U.S. A couple of places have had the iPhone Plus in 256GB in other colours, but not many,

Opps, sorry.

As above, I have heard suppliers have some, as has Carphone Warehouse.

Canada must be really happy with their latest land acquisition

I got my black 128GB IPhone 7+ by checking the Apple site throughout the day. Stores were clearly getting new stock in daily and scanning them in one by one and they then pop up in stock and get reserved. It's worth being prepared. Apple ID, etc. so you can log in and claim the reservation before someone else nabs it.

John Lewis had some in stock this morning. Both sizes. I would like an iPhone 7 plus though I can't bring myself to spending that much money. It is an insane amount. £719 for a measly 32gb model. It needs to be £200 cheaper to be reasonable value for me.

If you keep hitting refresh all day you might get lucky. But because so many people are desperate to buy these new iPhones any available stock usually only lasts for seconds.

This is why I prefer to stay up all night preparing myself for the 08:01am pre-ordering rush. I have never failed to get the iPhone I want on launch day. One long night is worth it for me. Far better than embarking on the treasure hunt that many people are now on to get the iPhone they want weeks later.

Can someone explain profiles to me?

I SIM swap between EE and vodafone and Vodafone wanted me to install a profile. When I moved back to EE nothing worked until I deleted the profile. Should I have an EE profile? WIll I need a vodafone one again if I swap back?

For my work wifi, I need two profiles for access but when I'm not on wifi how do I know it's not trying to use these profiles via EE and cause issues?

Ta!

The carrier profile is a file on iOS which contains settings specific to your network. When you install the carrier profile, your iPhone automatically selects the most appropriate settings.

It's an IPhone. Apple could cripple it and people would still buy it (hell the original didn't even have 3G at a time when every other smartphone did, and that still sold like hotcakes).

Was that online? I'm going to keep refreshing the page for the rest of the day. They have plenty of the iPhone 7 in stock online with John Lewis, but it's the bloody 128GB black matte plus I'm after. Also, you get 3,200 air miles/avios when getting it from John Lewis.

There are two "carrier profile" settings on IOS - there is the "global one" which is maintained by Apple and updated occasionally. The current version is visible by
Settings->General->About. Mine says "Three 24.1" which is the carrier "Three" from Apple settings update version 24.1

This can be overridden by specific "profiles" - Settings->General->Profiles but very few
carriers use this mechanism (it is used more for WiFi).

It sounds as if Vodafone are unusual in using the second mechanism!

Under Settings / General / Profile?

So should my phone know if I'm not on vodafone and not use their "Contract WAP" profile?

Not sure why you've got a problem with that because it's 14 days after you receive it, so there's nothing to stop you hedging your bets

Watching Sky Q I assume?!

You do know that when ordering online, rather than going to the store, you don't need to stay up all night? Just set your alarm for 7.30am or something. Nobody will cut in line or anything.

Because they knew it would be treated as a big deal by the media regardless of whether it is or not.

I'm a heavy ear buds user, I listen to audio books and podcasts a lot, particularly in the car. However, I don't consider it a big deal. I will either use the new supplied lightning ones, or I will simply use the provided adapter. Can't really see what all the fuss is about - but it shows that Apple were probably right to address it head on.

Look at that a little more closely and find me any 7 Plus, any colour, any size in stock anywhere in the UK ?

Isn't a better strategy setting an alarm for 07:55

Can you tell me exactly what you mean by "checking the Apple site" I can't see a link anywhere to reservations.

It was the IUP link.

6am nothing was ever available but around 10am I noticed a device appeared, it was quickly snatched up, then another appeared, etc. You have to be quick. You can't refresh the page too often as it seems to detect that and go back to the IUP page to go back in, but phones do appear at times other than at 6am. Reservations also time out I believe, and phones go back into the pool, so it's worth checking regularly.

At the store I then paid full price instead of installments.
