Oh come on - they could hardly not mention it.
Comparing it with RAM is nonsense - the average user probably doesn't know, care or think about how much RAM their phone has - so they don't feel the need to mention it.
The average user is however all too aware of the headphone socket - so they did feel the need to mention it.
Turn it into a controversy, or even a conspiracy, if you want to. Doesn't make it so.
