If the controversy is somehow imagined or not real, why did Apple have to explain the decision on stage?
If it was such a non issue then why mention it at all? I mean, Apple doesn't mention how much RAM a phone has or even state the battery capacity as a matter of course. So just leave it for the spec list. Or maybe dropping it WAS a big deal and Apple knew it would ruffle some feathers. Comparing it with RAM is nonsense - the average user probably doesn't know, care or think about how much RAM their phone has - so they don't feel the need to mention it. The average user is however all too aware of the headphone socket - so they did feel the need to mention it. Turn it into a controversy, or even a conspiracy, if you want to. Doesn't make it so. |

Oh come on - they could hardly not mention it.

Including the dongle probably won't make that much difference in shifting bad habits, but still I find it frustrating they did it. |

John Lewis had some in stock this morning. Both sizes. I would like an iPhone 7 plus though I can't bring myself to spending that much money. It is an insane amount. £719 for a measly 32gb model. It needs to be £200 cheaper to be reasonable value for me.

If you keep hitting refresh all day you might get lucky. But because so many people are desperate to buy these new iPhones any available stock usually only lasts for seconds.
This is why I prefer to stay up all night preparing myself for the 08:01am pre-ordering rush. I have never failed to get the iPhone I want on launch day. One long night is worth it for me. Far better than embarking on the treasure hunt that many people are now on to get the iPhone they want weeks later. It is nothing more than the usual Apple trick of restrict supply to create a demand.

My only disappointment was they felt it necessary to put the dongle in the box. I wish they were confident enough to say use lightning, bluetooth or buy the dongle IF you really foolishly think you should be using that ancient old port for audio.

Plus the fact they have manufactured fewer phones and now they are playing catchup on the factory conveyor belts. Hence the reason for the big shortage. It all makes sense now.

It was the IUP link.
6am nothing was ever available but around 10am I noticed a device appeared, it was quickly snatched up, then another appeared, etc. You have to be quick. You can't refresh the page too often as it seems to detect that and go back to the IUP page to go back in, but phones do appear at times other than at 6am. Reservations also time out I believe, and phones go back into the pool, so it's worth checking regularly. At the store I then paid full price instead of installments. |

All the comments I have seem have said that sales of the iPhone 7 are totally confounding all the experts and predictions, are vastly more than last year and may even end up exceeding the sales levels of the iPhone 6 two years ago!!!!! This has led to initial stock shortages. PS I now see it is one analyst who has poured doubt on the sales but........."Incidentally, not every analyst is on board with Kuo’s bleak iPhone 7 outlook. As we detailed last week, some South Korean analysts believe that iPhone 7 sales in 2016 may top 100 million units." |

I agree with this review saying more is not always better. The iPhone 7 Plus is more reliable and consistent than the Galaxy S7 :

How can you possibly be disappointed that they included something that will be useful for many people, but you don't have to use if you don't need it?
One of the reasons I love Apple is because they've never been afraid of leading the industry by killing off old standards and technologies. Schiller says removing the jack is courageous, but I think real courage would have been making people pay for the dongle. Just like they made people pay for external floppy drives and CD/DVD drives and Ethernet dongles when they removed them from computers. |

How can you or anyone else for that matter possibly say that a phone that has been out for less than two weeks i.e. the iPhone 7 plus is more reliable than a phone that has been out for months and months. Talk about a flawed process.

Because including the dongle makes it easy for people to keep using earphones and cans with the ridiculously old audio jack. The whole point of removing it is to advance technology and nudge people towards the future.

Because if you watched the video you will see that he experiences lag when multiple windows are open on the S7.

It could be a fault with the S7 or any other number of reasons. No one is going to take that sort of test seriously - well apart from you that is.

I believe the Note 7 software is a lot better, as TouchWiz has always been controversial. This is coming to the S7 and S7e when Nougat is released, so that could solve a lot of issues.
It may not, of course. But Nougat should improve multi window operation a lot over Samsung's implementation. But Samsung users have had this feature a lot longer than others. Marshmallow never offered it outside the beta versions and Nougat is pretty new (again, ignoring betas). How slick is multi window operation on the iPhone? |

When they killed off the optical drive they didn't resort to forcing the consumer into using a proprietary connector i.e. Lightning. You could by any old DVD writer and plug it into a USB port. Apple will make a great deal of money from licensing companies who want to make earphones and leads for the new iPhone.
Also, what about lost revenue caused by people buying a different phone because they want a regular headphone jack? I just don't buy the idea that they are solely doing it for the money from licensing, because: a. that will be a drop in their ocean. b. they have a history of dropping tech, that hasn't had the potential of licensing revenue. |

I'd say the removal of the jack was a big enough nudge - including the dongle seems a reasonable compromise. Why do you care what people use? |
