It would appear that the real world does not meet your expectations. Shame.

If you are going travelling then carrying a brand new, expensive phone may not be such a good idea anyway.

Fair enough if the first few days are a bit difficult to get hold of one, but two weeks after the launch is ridiculous. Also, to have such a lack of stock this badly is nothing to with there being a high demand...it's to do with them purposely not making anywhere near enough in order to generate a buzz. They're a huge business, they know what they're doing.”

Someone on here posted that they got one from Carphone Warehouse the other day and another person said they were notified by John Lewis when it was back in stock and ordered one.

@Master Ozzy

Are you travelling somewhere where you couldn't buy one on your travels? Or have it delivered somewhere and forwarded on?

Is it absolutely essential to have the phone before you go?

Buying abroad might actually save you money (I am not up to speed on how many variants there are now for the iPhone for different countries/bands, or if every iPhone supports all bands) given the current value of the pound.

Maybe if you're a child, but considering I'm 29 and an adult I think I can travel around the world with a smartphone and take out insurance.

Thanks, I think this is something I might end up doing. I'm off to Australia first so might wait and buy one out there.

To be fair, in terms of logistics and distribution, it is a hell of a lot easier to hold stock in a central warehouse than it is to correctly and fairly distribute devices between multiple stores up and down the country,

With your stroppy attitude you don't behave like an adult. Maybe that's why Stig was confused.

I would call that a real bonus then because by the time you get back there may be an iPhone that's worth waiting for i.e. their 10th anniversary edition rather than the "not new" iPhone that's been released this year.

TBH if you look at what people are ordering then it becomes immediately apparent that what people have been saying for years is true i.e. the iPhone is just a fashion statement. Everyone is going crazy for a 'black one' and they want a clear case to show off the 'black', says it all really.

Have you seen the photos of the damage at the original source on Reddit?

You are the one struggling, the phone didn't just catch fire while being transported, it was subjected to external force or impact that caused severe damage to the internal battery pack which then ignited.

But that doesn't suit your agenda, does it?

There has always been a stock shortage for the first month or so after launch, some people say Apple deliberately control stock to maintain the hype over a longer period.

The fact they are fulfilling orders to around 50 countries at the same time could also just point to demand outstripping supply...

There seems to be plenty of 7s in 256 GB and occasionally 128 GB and some 7 pluses in John Lewis with limited colours, no blacks or silver. I've not seen the more affordable 32 GB in stock at all.

I'm wondering if they are trying to shift the cheaper 6s before they release more 32 GB 7's as they are quite close on price?... because last year's model is way too expensive.

You didn't bother to read the article posted by the looks of it which is quite clear it happened while it was being transported to the customer. Yes I even mentioned the customer in my original post.

Looks like its you with the twisted agenda.

Instead, the iPhone seems to have caught fire while in transit between the factory and delivery.

You don't really understand, try and read my post again, it didn't just catch fire while being transported. it was subjected to external force that caused a fire.

If I threw petrol over you and lit it people wouldn't claim you spontaneously combusted, would they?

Looking at the packaging I think even Yodel are amateurs in comparison to whoever the US courier was. .

Another poster thought it was such breaking news he actually made an entire new thread about it, it's understandable you missed it as it has a really OTT thread title.

What bit of:

"this looks to be a freak occurrence, likely brought on by damage during the phone’s transport. Since lithium can self-ignite at room temperature, any small puncture in a Li-ion battery can lead to an explosion. That’s the reason why lithium batteries are usually barred from being transported by airplane and why they should only be disposed of in adequate manner."

It's a real shame - they've been looking so hard to find examples of the iPhone 7 exploding to make up for the soul-destroying Samsung stories, they finally find something and it turns out to be a complete nonstory.

I don't see that any product which may catch fire as something to cheer about - people could be badly injured.

I do note (pardon the pun) that the Note 7 is now back on sale. I suspect the public will have forgotten about this issue in a few weeks and the N7 will be selling well again.

I agree with your overall sentiment, but don't be so sure about the Note 7 saga being over, a new "safe" Note 7 caught fire while charging according to a story in What Mobile.

You're right - people could indeed be badly injured if they happened to find themselves holding an iPhone in the cargo hold of an aeroplane when that iPhone just happened to have a tiny puncture in its battery that just happened to cause it to go on fire.

Nothing to cheer about at all.
