Found quite a few promising phones that don't support 800LTE.
Think I'll get a Wilyfox and stick with VOD on 2G and 3 on 3/4G. At least I'll be able to quickly switch to VOD data if I want to test or there is VOD data but no 3 (not likely). Currently if I switch SIMs I have to re-provision TinT which is a PITA. Probably get a 7 / SE on EE once they roll out some 800 around here and use the VOD / 3 PAYG phone as backup on holidays or give it to one of the kids. |

I think that's probably a good call. The Honor 7 also supports 800Mhz and 3G/4G on both SIMs in the same way, albeit not at the same time.

Hmm. Looks good. What sort of crud do they put over Android? One thing I hate about the ZTE is the amount of 'improvements' they have made to the base OS, thereby negating any hope of compatibility with pretty much anything.
I think the Wilyfox runs a version of Android called something like hemorrhoid or something. Is that pretty plain or has it got nonsense all over it? |

What, so you can switch it in the OS without changing SIMs around?

Personally, given the choice between the two phones I'd go for the Honor - partly because it's a bit more powerful (but also more expensive), but mainly due to its uncanny ability to pick up a usable 4G signal where no other phone can.... As someone who lives in a flakily covered rural area, signal pick-up trumps all other factors for me!

Yup
![]() The WIleyfox uses Cyanogen, which is very like stock android with a few (genuine) enhancements. The Honor uses its own interface, which isn't like stock android at all - some get on with it and others don't. I don't mind it to be honest - I find some of their additional features quite useful and find it perfectly usable in general without any real learning curve. I haven't come across anything it isn't compatible with yet - was there anything specific you were worried about - I may be able to check for you on mine. I have a dual sim Huawei P8 Lite. It takes 1 micro sim and 1 nano sim, so you can't physically swap them, but can swap them logically in the settings. Again, this one has 1 4g/3g and 1 2g at any time, but as I say you can switch them around in the settings. I've used mine with a 3 sim and it worked in either mode, but that could be because I'm not in the UK, so it was roaming.
But couldn't you just set the 3 sim to the 3g mode and the other one to 2g mode? Both work for incoming or outgoing calls and texts. You can select which it uses for outgoing either by setting a default, or ask on each time basis. |

My intention was to get a Sure Signal so my VOD sim which is the main number would work solidly in the house. Then found that the ZTE can only do 3/4G on SIM1 and I need that for 3 as no VOD 3/4G here at all yet. It's all very complicated. Sure Signal works over 3G of course. Bah. If I had a phone that was capable of 3/4G on both SIMS the question then is which would I leave on 3G? The VOD one so I could use a Sure Signal and then get whacked for expensive data unless I buy 'a bundle'? Then have to swith to the 3 SIM if I needed data outside? Probably not so to be honest the whole thing is a bit of a dead end. I think I might change the phone just so I can test for VOD signals out and about but leave the 3 sim on data most of the time. Also would like a better camera so the Honor looks good. |

Help with choosing a dual sim 4g phone.
Hi I am wondering if such a phone exists or not. I am looking for a fairly high end dual sim phone that will allow me to use two 3 network sims at the same time. All of the phones I have enquired about the second sim defaults to GSM when you choose 3G / 4G for sim one so rendering sim 2 unusable on the 3 network.

Not sure this is possible. The Honor 7, Wilyfox Swift and latest Moto G (I think) allow you to select which sim does data but I don't know of a phone that allows both on at the same time.

Xiaomi Mi 5
Doesn't support 800 4G though. The ZUK Z2 Pro is likely to support 800 4G and be 4G+3G/3G+3G capable if you're willing to wait until June. |

That takes you to this thread
![]() You just being slow . Someone at DS has now merged the new thread into the old thread (seeing as they are asking the identical question probably a good thing).

Yeah, threads got merged. Almost lost my last brain cell. I'm not sure if this is possible. What complications would it throw up? Some I am sure, especially with VoLTE etc. coming in.

I like the look of it. Just don't sort of trust Android. I'm a light user and don't want things popping up here and there telling me to clear out junk etc. Nothing particular. If it picks up a good signal, I may prefer it to be honest. What's the camera like?
![]() I can't say what the WF camera is like as I don't think Mother uses it (she's a 'proper' camera aficionado). From the specs I'd expect it to be fairly average. She's very much a light user, and limited in her phone / Android knowledge, so I can confidently say she gets little 'hassle' from the OS apart from the usual Android app update notifications - if she did, I'd know about it! ![]() The Honor's camera is good - nothing mind-blowing, but I don't notice any significant difference to the S6 camera apart from the colours aren't quite as vibrant. I find the Honor software to be fine. It's unintrusive, and close enough to the normal Android skin to make it no more difficult to use day to day. It does have some genuinely handy features that pop up, like warning you when certain apps are using a lot of battery, or stay on after the screen's off. Then you can easily manage the power use. The signal pick-up and quality is by far the stand-out feature for me, and I can live with its quirks to get the reception benefits. |

Sorry Steve, I totally missed this - I blame the threads merging...

What I really want is something like the iPhoneSE on a network that has proper calling and data coverage where I live. EE will get there first I think although I'll have to go on contract to use wifi calling which will probably be required for me. EE's PAYG ideas are not that great anyway. So probably SIM only. I think I'll probably swap out the ZTE for the Honor when the wine budget allows and then see what happens for the rest of the year. |

Cheers. Might have a pop at it. I would like to switch to VOD data now and again to see what it's like as the map is often wrong but then again, don't want to be whacked for £2 every time I do. In truth the dual sim VOD for calls and 3 for date on PAYG works very well for me. I would like a better camera than the ZTE and really dislike the way Android fires up these notifications all the time. I guess I could work on turning some off.

On the notification front, the Honor will push quite a few, but they're easy to 'kill' if you don't want to see them again... |

Went for the Honor 7 in the end. Euro dual sim model from Amazon. Looking deeper, some of the features are quite cool. Still going to wait on the iPhone 7 and EE800 but this will do me for the time being. My ZTE is OK but looks naff and the camera is not good which is one thing that is important to me. Might go for the £10 PAYG bundle from VOD so I don't get whacked every time I check their coverage. Will still need 3 the other SIM for data around here.

Does the Three sim work when you make the Voda sim the main sim?
The Honor is capable of 3/4G on both sims but not at the same time. But you can select in software rather than swapping sims. So I could put my VOD in SIM1 and set that to data and get a second hand smart signal voice booster thing or whatever it is so that I can use the phone in my house. I will get poor data out and about but can always switch to the 3 sim in software should I need data. Or I can leave the 3 SIM on data as I do now and get the best of both worlds but without having to do a physical switch should I end up in an area where there is VO2 data but not 3 (nowhere around here). So, I think, in terms of the 'main SIM' on my ZTE you can choose a default for outgoing calls and texts (separately) which can be either SIM or you can set it to ask with each call. Either SIM will ring if it's called and sometimes it's handy to have a throw away number you can give to undesirables. The difference is that the Honor and a few others allow you to choose which SIM is doing the data bit in software. I'm a light data user so might get a smart signal and leave the VOD sim on data for in house calls until I'm out somewhere and need to check the bank or whatever. It's a bit of a bodge but until EE enable 800 properly or VO2 get down here with some serious 3/4G coverage, it's not a bad solution. Phone always rings. Always got a decent data service and cheap as chips. |
