Be aware if you get any of those signal boxes, the sim card you want to connect to it will need to be on 3G for it to work, they don't support 2G.

On my ZTE you can choose which SIM makes calls / texts or set it to ask you every time. If one sim is on a call, the other is not active. Crucially though, SIM2 can only do GSM so at the mo I have my VOD sim in there with my main number and that is set for outgoing calls / texts. 3 is in SIM1 and when I need data, the phone just uses it. It works well but in order to get anything but GSM on VOD I need to swap sims and that screws up everything as the phone and apps get confused. Need to re-register 3inT etc. when I swap back.
The Honor is capable of 3/4G on both sims but not at the same time. But you can select in software rather than swapping sims. So I could put my VOD in SIM1 and set that to data and get a second hand smart signal voice booster thing or whatever it is so that I can use the phone in my house. I will get poor data out and about but can always switch to the 3 sim in software should I need data. Or I can leave the 3 SIM on data as I do now and get the best of both worlds but without having to do a physical switch should I end up in an area where there is VO2 data but not 3 (nowhere around here). So, I think, in terms of the 'main SIM' on my ZTE you can choose a default for outgoing calls and texts (separately) which can be either SIM or you can set it to ask with each call. Either SIM will ring if it's called and sometimes it's handy to have a throw away number you can give to undesirables. The difference is that the Honor and a few others allow you to choose which SIM is doing the data bit in software. I'm a light data user so might get a smart signal and leave the VOD sim on data for in house calls until I'm out somewhere and need to check the bank or whatever. It's a bit of a bodge but until EE enable 800 properly or VO2 get down here with some serious 3/4G coverage, it's not a bad solution. Phone always rings. Always got a decent data service and cheap as chips. That's why I asked the question specifically about the Honor 7 and how it works with 3 in the non data slot... So, if you have data active on the Voda sim the 3 sim is basically dead? |

Dunno to be honest. I hope not. Will be sending the thing back if that is the case.

Yeah pretty much every other dual SIM phone works that way, it sounds the same as the dual SIM Moto G and Moto X play that I have, you can easily swap sim capability via software (ie make Sim1 voice&data (3G/4G) and Sim2 voice (2G) or vice versa but if a Voda sim was data&voice (3G/4G) then the other SIM reverts to 2G only, so if that was a Three sim it would stop working and you'd probably get a text saying it can't work in a 2G phone.
d123 explained exactly this behaviour earlier on in the thread. #12 |

That's probably OK as long as I have the option to turn the 3 SIM back on when I need it.

We still need a dual sim phone that will allow 3G/4G with data on one sim and 3G with no data on the other sim to be properly usable with a Three sim. |

As long as you don't mind the Three sim not receiving calls or texts when you choose the Voda sim as primary then it might work for you.

Unless of course your lucky enough to be in one of 3's Roaming areas with the Orange part of EE then you *might* get calls & texts over 2G.

We do have some 2G roaming here, or we did a while back. It seemed to vanish about a year ago and then came back. Wouldn't really bother me if they cancelled the sim, I would just get an EE one. The main point is that it sits there and I can flick to it if there is no VOD data. Or I can do as I do now and keep it on data and VOD for calls / texts. I still see it as a bodge until EE or VO2 get things sorted properly which is probably not far off for EE at least.
My 3 number is throwaway but as I said, sometimes handy to give to people you don't want to have your main number. |

Right, it arrived today (Honor 7) and mighty impressed am I. It's still bigger than I would like but there doesn't seem to be a dual sim on the market of a sensible size with enough power.
Spent an hour or so setting it all up and it's way ahead of the ZTE which feels like a toy in comparison. Build quality seems excellent. The screen is lovely, the camera is very good and best of all, it seems to haul in a signal where no other phone I have tried (aside from an old Nokia) will. Fingerprint sensor is super quick and I like the smart button. I've got it on 1 tap for calculator (I'm a calculating swine), two taps for torch and hold for camera. Torch works without unlocking which is cool. For camera all I need to do is touch the fingerprint sensor and hold in the smart button and I'm ready to shoot in less than a second. I think the sensor has swipe functions as well but not looked much at that yet. It's really easy to set up which sim does what. At the moment I still have it set to VOD for 2G only, 3 sim on 3/4G. But you can swap in software in a couple clicks. I'm actually seriously impressed with this piece of kit. I wish it was a little smaller, slimmer, lighter but other than that it's going to cost me next to nothing as a light user to have the current best network for 2G calls (here ate least) and also a decent data network as well and 321 is seriously cheap. Thanks for the recommendation CheshireB, feel like I've got a proper phone again. |

I've found the battery life to be great too, so I can even overlook the chunkiness for this and the stunning cell pick-up...

Moto G4 Plus has 3G on both SIMs!
Sorry to bump this thread but I've just got a Moto G4 Plus dual SIM (UK model) and pleased to find both SIMS are 3G at the same time, or 3G and 4G. Tested with with EE and 3 SIMs and it does work, data was on the EE SIM and the 3 SIM stayed connected at 3G and made voice calls.

Oh and no need to apologise. I'm sure there are quite a few people who would like a phone that can do this. Personally I think I'll be going with EE only soon if 800 rolls out. VO2 are closing in here too which will give me more choice. I reckon there will still be a heck of a lot of people who will need dual SIM though. |

That is interesting. Do you still select in the menu which sim does 3/4G? But you're saying that if you pick the EE sim, the 3 sim still works on 3G? Do both show 3G in the top bar (or 4 or H or whatever?).

Previously this was impossible on most dual SIM phones, as soon as you chose data for SIM1 (EE) then Three SIM would drop out of service as it can't do 2G. Hope that makes sense. And on my dual SIMs previously as soon as you chose data for Sim1 then Sim2 would show as 2G only in the setup menu. Not anymore! |

I've only just played with it and am making a video to stick on youtube - so you can go to each sim, set to be 3G preferred or 4G preferred (on both SIMs at the same time which was impossible on the Moto X Play dual SIM) then both SIMs are showing as 3G on the home screen, or 4G and 3G - at the same time. My EE SIM shows as 4G and is the data SIM, the Three sim on Sim2 sits there as 3G and makes voice calls while the EE on Sim1 is the data and voice SIM.

Don't apologise, that's good news for people wanting to use a 3 sim for voice and another sim for data.
Where did you buy the dual sim version from? Quick video uploaded now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwqMSRPZS70 (apologies for shaky video and cheesey music!) |

I have the Moto X Play dual SIM which is very close in every respect to the Moto G4 Plus, but it has a compass, 5GHz wifi and NFC which are nice to haves..... as I use it for work I often flip data between my work SIM (so I get HD voice to my collegeues) and to my personal sim which I have tons of data to use. Now the G4 Plus has got 3G on both sims it makes it easier for me but I might miss the compass (not sure how that effects maps?) but NFC and 5Ghz wifi I can live without.
I see that although both sims can be selected to use 3G or 4G as the preferred network, the phone will never have 2 x 4G networks at the same time, one sim is always 3G (not H or H+) and the other sim will be 3G, H, H+ or 4G depending on what it receives. Will HD voice work on 3G or does it need H or H+? |

Please let us know.
The only difference is you can't now select the type per SIM separately to which SIM you want for data - which is probably easier for the user - but means you have no control. The one you set as being used for data becomes available for 3G or 4G, although I suppose you could set it to be max 2G. The other one set for 4G will drop. A bit misleading perhaps, although of course Wileyfox hasn't claimed it would work with two SIMs on 3G or 4G at once. |
