I'm just running the medic class as that's what I use the majority of the time in BF4. I'll give the other classes a go before the beta ends but the medic suits my style of play better.

Still can't use the flamethrower! I've held L2 in to see if it charges it but still won't fire. I just stand there looking like a gimp with my mask on & massive weapon in my hand...

Seems to be down now. Can't connect to ea servers. It's beta and we should expect things like this but can't imagine it'll go down too well. Not a great start

I wasn't too keen on the multiplayer part I played because the map was too big.

The MP maps in Battlefield games have traditionally always been very big in the conquest mode.

Rush uses smaller maps which open up in segments as the attacking team destroys the objectives & the more recent BF games have also had modes which use smaller maps (Close Quarters in BF3 for example), But the main focus does tend to be on the big conquest maps as that's the traditional BF experience & what sets it apart from a lot of the other online FPS titles.

The map in this Beta isn't even as big as some in previous Battlefield games; Bandar Desert from Battlefield 3 comes to mind which I believe is still the biggest map in the franchises history?

well played the beta last night its ok but its a bit meh. total sniper fest from the get go as the maps i think are too big. i just think the maps are lacking in design i just sat there thinking these aren't as good as bad company 2 maps. not much cover and while everything can be damaged to a point destructible buildings aren't as key as they used to be just window dressing now.

bigger maps isnt always better

It's not EA or Dice's fault they have been DDOSed by some numpties who thought they would try and spoil the Beta for everyone.

Thanks. Got it to work eventually. I think my controller may be busted as I had to press & release R2 a couple of times for it to work. When I just held R2 in, nothing happened.

Does your progression carry over to the full release?

Don't think so.

First time playing Battlefield and I think this is definitely not for me. Really not n00b or novice friendly at all - had absolutely zero idea what was going on other than "shoot the enemy".

Ags. You are basically trying to capture or hold the various flags. You're probably best sticking to a couple of them rather than thinking you'll dominate the whole map.
Unfortunately the map is pretty open and so folk can use sniper rifles between 2 or more of the areas. This make it quite hard to get to a new area.

Conquest is not so much about killing people, the objective is to capture and hold the flags (on the map you'll see A, B, C, D, E, F just run towards one that needs capturing) the more flags your team have the more points your team will get.

I like this game mode, all I basically do is run to a flag that needs capturing and I don't care if I don't get many kills because you don't win the game that way.

Conquest is basically only the mode I've ever played. Used to play domination a lot in the glory days of COD. This is essentially a giant game of domination.

I've noticed some rounds I start with a different gun from what's in my set up & my progression for the tracked medals isn't working properly. Hopefully these are just beta bugs.

When does the beta end?

They haven't said.

From memory the BF4, Hardline & Battlefront beta's ran for about 5-6 days so i'd guess it will run through Sunday?

At the top centre of the screen when capturing, you'll see a bit which should change fully red or blue, depending which side you're on. If a member of the opposition team enters the capture zone, a little segment of their team's colour will show. Depending on the ratio, the point will be captured fast, slow or you lose it if there's more of them.

Don't worry about kills. At first, only fire at people close by that you've more chance of killing, or people facing the other way & not try any long range shots until you get used to how the weapons handle. Try and stick with at least one squad member so you've got back up. To get extra points to help rank up, maybe try medic class & throw down some bandages or medicrates to help stricken team mates. If you see opposition while aiming down the sights but they're far away, press R1 to "spot" them to highlight them to other team mates. Also, try stay between a couple of areas at first rather than running around every where. Going between A-B B-C & C-F is where most of the action seems to take place. E is way out the way and I would only go there if I'm in a vehicle as you're too exposed running around there in the open.

Second night in a row I can't get a game, this time due to failed matchmaking. Tried using the server browser but the queues are way too long.

I got on but had a bit of issue of being booted out a few times. Gave up to watch TV. I also changed my loadout and some wouldn't stick.

Joys of a beta. I remember in Bad Company 2 you could take damage on some maps jumping over a wall.

I was in a building shooting at someone on a horse through a doorway and apparently the horse ran me over even though it couldn't enter the building.

I'm not enjoying this as much as the Hardline beta. It's not bad but it's not great either.

I'm also very disappointed that DICE haven't carried over from Hardline the ability to take resources from others. It's frustrating in this and BF4 when people don't give out ammo/health packs. In Hardline you don't need to wait for people to drop them, you can grab what you need whilst in close proximity.

I didn't play the other games so I didn't know that. I think what frustrates me is everytime I join a game I don't last very long and I never seem to really get into any action. I never really get a chance to shoot anyone or even get near anyone for long, everyone just seems so far apart, you don't really work in a tea, you hear the gunshots and everything but you never quite get to where they are before you're taken out, you never really feel like you have a chance to be on the winning side.
