“The software is functioning as intended,” said Amber.
“Wait,” I asked, “so it’s supposed to delete my personal files from my internal hard drive without asking my permission?”
“Yes,” she replied.
Anyone else had this happen? Was tempted to try Apple music but not so sure now,

Nope - I imagine if it actually was deleting everyone's personal files we'd know a lot more about it.

I did have an issue where, in a small number of cases, Apple Music swapped out versions of songs I had with different (usually less good) versions of songs.

But their support was pretty helpful, and I was able to get them back by resyncing just those tracks.

I signed up for the trial and it did switch out a TON of album art and information, most of which was wrong.

Luckily, I found out how to disable it and restored a backup of my iTunes database and it's been ok ever since. Nothing about deleting any content though.

When you enable iCloud Music Library it asks you if you want to replace the music on the device with the contents of the library or merge it into the library.

It will only delete existing music if you tell it to at this point.

I haven't signed up for it and won't be for this exact reason. I don't want it to mess up my library.
