Has Kathy's comeback echoed that of Sharon's?

In my opinion of has- it took DTC to turn Sharon around - ○Sharon's first year and a half back was awful and the same thing is happening with Kathy. Kathy like Sharon is an iconic character and I don't think the writing for her as been as good is it should be. I am hoping Sean O'Connor can give Kathy a fresh direction and like Sharon she should be at the very heart of the Square.

An affair with Buster is not the answer.

Her whole return has been a fragmented joke. Where is Gavin now by the way?

Even Ian has fallen out with her again, he thought she was dead this time last year!

The writing has never been so bad.

For once I agree with you Pitkin.

Her comeback storyline was a mess. It went no where. It was all tied up too easily. But I love having her back and she shines in the day to day stuff.

We've seen no evidence that Dom will follow up on any of his other 'bright ideas', so I don't know why Kathy would be any different

It did. It went round in ever decreasing circles for weeks. I'm assuming this Gavin / Claudette stuff links into Peggy return. Why else bring Eric Mitchell into it? Not that I'm bothered about all this back history stuff.

Kathy should be a much bigger character than she is.

It will be interesting later in the year when Ian & Jane are arrested and Jane possibly goes down for Murder. Ian will be public enemy number one after Jane departs. The Square and the Brannings will have a hard time forgiving him. I would like to see Kathy play a big part here and Dot too who will be torn as Max is her stepson and she has known Ian since he was a child - there is potential for some great drama here.

The problem EE have is Kathy has proved to be a weak actress. She was always adequate rather than top notch but her performance in those 'drama' episodes was not good. She was part of the reason they fell flat. If it was Jesse Wallace for example delivering the same script it would have been far more believable. She'd have delivered emotion by the bucket load. Not only that but other characters in the scenes feed off her.

Kathy is fine plodding around. Nice character providing the glue.

Maybe once Peggy returns story ends then maxs release from prison will help kathys character improve and will also help everyone else grow once these stories are wrapped up.

She lacks chemistry with the majority of the cast this time round. The only characters she seems to have any sort of bond with are Jane and Sharon.

She's good chemistry with Martin and Stacey. Don't think it's anything to do with Gillian not having chemistry it's more the way it's all been executed since she returned I blame the EP Like I don't know why they've never really given her many scenes with the two other characters that she knows Dot and Sonia they should have been 2 other characters she had a lot of scenes with when she returned. I know we have seen scenes of Kathy in the same room with Sonia but have they actually even had a conversation with one another since Kathy returned? And another thing Why have they not bothered to have her not mention her best friend pat even once it's very frustrating. Her return could have been so much better by just including these things could have made all the difference. Don't even think we seen Sonia react to the news finding out about Kathy being alive that's another thing that's p*ssed me off.

I don't think it echoes Sharon's 2012 return. Sharon came back only knowing Ian and Phil and was placed with the awful Branning family. Letitia hadn't acted for 2 years and was very slow to get back into the rhythm but was not helped by the hatchet job Newman did on the character of Sharon. She's settled in now, her acting is back to how it used to be (love it or hate it) and she's an integral part of the show.

Kathy came back with much more fanfare and hype than Sharon. She also came back, more importantly, to an entire plethora of characters she had history with and could interact with as well as new additions to the Beales and Mitchells she hadn't met previously but was tied to. I say this as a Kathy fan the way I said it when Sharon first came back - Gillian's acting is terrible. Having watched her in many shows over the years she's been getting worse and worse. She's been working steadily ever since she left EastEnders in 1998 so there really is no excuse to fall back on such as being out of practice or having to get used to the soap working lifestyle again. She went directly from Hollyoaks to EastEnders. I don't think the writing for Kathy has been bad at all. It's the acting and the overall storyline itself that's letting the whole thing down. Gillian isn't even phoning it in. She's just reciting the lines like it's her shopping list. That's probably the reason Kathy is now a background z-list character. She can't be relied on for drama. Sharon and Ben carried her through the reunion scenes and the (extremely overrated) Adam Woodyatt let her down so the big reunion we were all waiting for was a damp squib.

Gillian used to be capable of more so it is possible she could improve but as I said before the ball is in her court.

Agreed. Maybe put her back in the caff and see if that improves things a bit.

I like her with Shirley, and as Marcus said, Martin. I think she's the sort to need women of her own age group to have a good old gossip with.

I think in her absence a lot of people forgot how average the actress was. So once she was back they probably looked at it and thought wow we can't really make her too central

I would like to see a Kathy and Cora friendship when Cora returns. Cora is only four years older than Kathy and they do share a Great Grandchild.

Hmm.... can't see it. Kathy and Shirley would be good but it seems they want to make them fall out over Buster. Great joy.

Just when we start to agree, you start churning nonsense out again.

The only scenes I have enjoyed with Kathy since her return were the early ones with Ben. It was him not her though that made those scenes.
