Streaming content to your tv from your phone (none smart)

Just wondered if anyone knows of a way of streaming pictures, music and movies to your tv from your phone?

I don't have a smart tv .

I have a galaxy s7edge.

I'm aware that chromecast works but understand that it only works on certain apps.

I would be using it to stream movies from websites to the TV .

I used to have a cable that went into the hdmi slot at the back of the TV via the phone. This doesn't work on the s7 edge.

Ideally I'd want something around £20 and one that doesn't have to be used within a wifi range.

I'm not massively technological minded so apologise if I'm being a bit naive.
Cheers

The only devices that I know of that will do that without a wifi connection I.e. Device to device is an iPhone to an Apple TV (3rd gen or later).

You can mirror what is shown on your device to your TV using a Chromecast. It does not matter what app you use. I use this all the time from my Nexus 5 to my TV via the phone WiFi. I don't have broadband at home and have no issues.

I was looking at the Chromecast in Maplin on Saturday, they looked a good item and I nearly bought one but it transpired that it had no AV output (I don't have a smart TV either). I asked about an HDMI to AV converter but was told that was £50 extra. Ouch!

Is there anything else out there that can stream my mobile phone to my TV and has AV out?

HDMI is nothing to do with smart TV's - a chrome cast will make any HDMI enabled TV smart.

However if you only have a non HDMI input TV () then look for a cheap android TV box many of which have AV inputs. Better still buy a new TV

What do you mean by AV? SCART? Or composite video? What type of ports does the TV actually have?

Indeed it would help to clarify exactly what is meant, especially as HDMI is also an AV interconnect....

I assumed they meant composite connection which most call AV.

I'd be surprised if any european set didn't have SCART though.

True especially with no HDMI.

My TV has RGB SCART and a composite input. I'm on the lookout for something to watch online content on my TV - or even better stream from my mobile or tablet. I was watching iPlayer via the Technica freeview box, but that service was revoked so I no longer have iPlayer on my TV which is a real bind if I missed something.

With such limited inputs an android box with composite input is the only thing I can think of. Or may be an older media player such as the WDTV which has iplayer, Netflix built in.

By the time you invest in one of these though it still seems a better bet to invest £100 or so in a cheap TV.

Thanks for the reply......is it better to get the actually chromecast rather than one of the cheaper versions?

Actually it does - for instance ChromeCast switches itself off when I launch the Sky Sports or Virgin Media Anywhere apps on my MotoG.
