How to choose the perfect puppy

This programme is on now and as usual they are putting out misleading information about pet (dog) ownership.

They've got the owners of 3 different dogs going round the pet supermarket calculating the cost of ownership for a year.

But I notice that they're adding in lists of things like toothbrushes, tons of treats etc

Plus they include insurance.

We dont give our dog treats, although do buy quite a few beds, purely because I like to change the decor of them over time. We dont use toothbrushes, we just make sure he eats the proper foods
We dont have pet insurance, never have had for any of our pets, these are a real rip off.

Some of it is very good, but I didn't like that woman who was with that young Scouser. A German shepherd won't fit your lifestyle so how about a mini schnauzer, wtf?! In what way exactly is that a good or wise compromise? The two breeds are nothing alike, the qualities he obviously found appealing the the shepherd aren't going to even be in the schnauzer! And she never even mentioned that schnauzers need a lot more regular grooming than a shepherd that can get pricey. Stupid idea IMO, if your going to compromise on a breed to get something more suitable, the breed you choose instead should have some semblance of what you originally wanted and were drawn towards!

I think I would have liked to have seen a bit more focus on puppy farms and how they work and rescue centres and the importance of rescuing animals.

Its now a consumer world.

Everything is about getting people to part with their money and to try and make them feel bad pet owners (or parents,) if they do not buy everything "they" say it needs.
