God this new set is such a waste of money in a time when the BBC is contracting and being squeezed left and right for every pound. The set is fine as it is now and any 'benefit' would be entirely frivolous.
Reading that article was a bit disheartening though, all that wasted money just down the drain with nothing to show for it. Typical big corporation behaviour though. |

Didn't they say it wouldn't be ready until 2018 anyway? so its only a one year delay.

I agree that this is beginning to sound like it will never happen. The fact they've recently renovated the exteriors of No 1 and 5 doesn't suggest to me they're knocking the old lot down anytime soon.

Doesn't sound good to me. It reeks of disaster.

How come? Even game of thrones takes less time making their sets.

Delayed until 2020 = we hope Labour win in 2020 so we get more money to waste, sorry spend.

Its still being rebuilt. Its just going to be a year behind schedule. It was supposed to be ready for 2018 now it will be ready for 2019. Its not been scrapped or put on hold. They are just behind on the work. It says all this in the article.

The existing set is dangerous due to health and safety reasons apparently.

It is practically a new site, they are building it over the car park not rebuilding the old one.
I can't think how the existing set could be dangerous, probably nothing that a welder couldn't fix. |

I think it was revealed they aren't doing the two sets thing now as it was going to cost too much money so the temp set idea over the car park was shelved. I assume the scaffolding around some of the houses on Albert Square is where work has already began.
Instead, they will build new locations where the existing set is now after they have demolished it. |

The article states that the main set will be ready by 2019, so not much of a delay. The new set is nothing but a vanity project for the BBC so they can compete with Corries new set. It's the classic case 'I want it too!' syndrome. Anybody would think the BBC is run by petulant man children. Gotta have that shiny new toy no matter the cost. |

The BBC wouldn't be spending £15m on a vanity project
![]() Do you ever delve deeper into situations or do you just swallow puff pieces put out by those that have a vested interest? Of course the BBC aren't going to acknowledge it is a vanity project. Though that's exactly what it is. The set is fine as it is. It looks realistic; it's serviceable. If they really want to burn through £15m how about hiring some decent actors, writers and producers. That's where the show really needs improving, not giving the show a superficial revamp. I seriously doubt that EE would be getting a new set if it were not for Corrie's either. Remember this was announced before the cuts which makes the new set even more frivolous. Just think what shows and services will be axed to fix the shortfall and make this must have new set. |

The new Corrie set hasn't made Corrie any better!
