Cancel bt and move to plus net
steveOooo
10-05-2016
Currently on infinity 2 and looking to move to plus net fibre unlimited

Today I placed an order on plus net and they said they would contact the current provider

Is that all I do? Do I need to call bt to cancel? I set the plusnet date as June 13th which is roughly one months notice to bt but can this be sooner?

Love how complicated they make it! Why can't we have a simplified Netflix style with the same ease of cancelling

(Btw search is not working for me so can't find similar posts)

You can choose an eairler date if you wish, just make sure your not under any contract period with your current provider. You do not need to contact BT, Plusnet will do all the leg work. Shouldn't be too much of a problem for Plusnet as they are owned by BT.

Not sure how you think it's complicated to be honest. You simply sign up for Plusnet, wait for the kit to arrive (if your using their modem/router) and on the due date, it should all be up and running with your new supplier.

Well with BT you have the option to leave if you dont like there new prices.

I believe im on a rolling month by month contract but might be 6 months into a 12 month contract! i cant remember

'i cant remember' is probably what these companies love to hear - hit you with a penalty.

Well you won't really be leaving BT because BT own plusnet.

HaD a letter from bt saying only my phone line was moving, you will still have broadband and bt sport at £32pm please call us to cancel of this is not what you want

Must be a ploy to get you to call and hard sell you - we had a Irish chap wo sounded like he was on speed - only offered £17.50pm which is only £2.50pm cheaper (not including the £5pm for 6 month bonus). I'd rather have offers in writing to read over than have someone sell over the phone. Trying to get deals like some drug dealer. Can't they 'keep it simple'

Just wish they would make things less complex in terms of prices for new customers and existing customers

A Netflix model that doesn't really change much and is easy with no faff ing around

That's strange, the blurb on the plusnet site says they will take care of all the switchover details by contacting your ISP for you.
I'm going to be moving to plusnet within the next week or two,it will be interesting to see if BT try to pull that stunt with me too.

Technically BT didn't create Plusnet. Just the BT Group bought Plusnet, but the still run as a separate company to BT.

Yeah plusnet said call bt

Called bt - hard sell on something - didnt understand him as he sounded like tommy from snatch (thick Irish accents)

When asked 'did you get notice about changing broadband' he said it hadn't come through

So I'd imagine its all bull to get you to phone up and get a hard sell.

Just say you don't care / hate Michael Owen / emigrating to Bolivia

We moved from TalkTalk to Plusnet ---- no problem .
Recommended Plusnet to a friend on this basis ----- what a nightmare it's proving to be for him.
After he contacted Plusnet ("we do it all for you") an Open reach van turned up at his house telling him his landline number had now been changed ---- he demanded his old number back but they couldn't do that so he is now stuck with a different phone number.
Why did Open Reach change his number ? He can't get an answer from Bt or Plusnet on that question.
His internet connection was terminated ---- it would be now that his landline number has changed.
The Plusnet router never arrived --- a phone call to Plusnet revealed the router had been posted to a caravan park so another was sent .
Plusnet have now said it will be all sorted this week ---- that's nearly 2 months after he first decided to change.

We never had any of these problems ,neither did our neighbours when they moved to Plusnet so reluctant now to recommend Plusnet to anyone again.

I emailed Plusnet to tell them about this fiasco but my email went to the sales department who couldn't help ----- they gave me a phone number for him to ring --- a number he already had.

Unless he gave specific instructions to port his landline number from BT to Plusnet then he will have been given a new number. If he did give instructions to port the number and has that confirmed in his order then it possible either BT or Plusnet cocked up, though getting either to hold their hands up and accept the blame may be easier said than done.

It could equally have been Openreach not responding to the porting instruction or the engineer tasked to make the changeover happen cocking up.

Waste of time him talking to Openreach about this though. They work for the service providers only. So will only take instructions from BT or Plusnet, depending on who is responsible for the number porting. Though with all three being part of BT Group you'd think they would be more inclined to talk to each other!

That is assuming of course that a number port was initiated in the first place. If it wasn't then your friend may have assumed that the number would stay the same even though he was changing providers.

I can't answer the question about "porting" but you are correct about BT blaming Plusnet and Plusnet blaming BT !!

Edit: when we changed there was no mention of "porting" ---- we were with TalkTalk and our landline number remained the same which is the BT landline number we've always had.

The word porting may not have been mentioned as probably most people wouldn't have a clue what it means More likely you would be asked if you wanted to retain your existing number.

He phone earlier to say Plusnet had sent a text saying they" had taken ownership of his old number and would be setting up his broad band" ----- the rest of the text he didn't receive.
My worry now is that he no longer has that as his landline number ----- we'll see.

Sorry to the OP for adding this to your topic ---- I hope your change over goes without a hitch.

I pay £31 per month to BT for broadband, TV and line rental.

Costly but they're reliable and I would never risk switching.

I've found plusnet to be the exact same as bt in the two weeks I've had them. They even use the exact same home hub (but white with bizarre bright pink legs! )

You can even reuse the BT HomeHub 5 on PlusNet - it's the ONLY other ISP that the HH5 will work with as its settings are almost all locked! Just change the username to <user>@plusdsl
