If you could purchase individual episodes for a small fee, then I'd sample the show for a couple of episodes.

Sure, but then Amazon will sell the show on, quite quickly after the first broadcast I imagine, just as the BBC did. Thus will many more people will see it than would be the case for Amazon streaming alone.

I also suspect that it will be heavily torrented, and leaving aside any arguments as to legalities, etc, that would give a massive assist to publicizing the show. How so? Well, Game of Thrones is the most torrented show ever, with files flying around into the millions, and yet the show is still the highest rated in the world today, merchandising is making a fortune, and the cast are all globally famous.

I never watched 'Friends', but I think Matt LeBlanc was brilliant in 'Episodes'.
I know humour is a very personal thing, but I find it hard to imagine anyone not finding him very funny in that show.

Its a boring name but I have some faith in Amazon as they are having a good run at making programmes lately e.g. Man in the High Castle and Transparent.

I think it will be great, better than TG likely but will watch both anyway. In fact I feel a bit spoiled knowing there will be two crazy car antic shows to watch and the competition between them will keep quality high hopefully

Because of circumstance CHM have found themselves with a blank sheet of paper and a huge budget and I think with that and Andy Wilman it will have got their creativity working again and they could be about to reinvent the car show all over again.

They still need to come up with original ideas that work. They had years and years to develop their version of Top Gear to what it became, and it was a slow burner at first.

I hadn't given this much thought until I saw how the new Chris Evans Top Gear has started, (and seeing the Top Gear thread on here) and only then realised that The Grand Tour must be starting with a blank sheet of paper. On the one hand this allows them maximum creativity. On the other hand, it requires maximum creativity. A blank sheet of paper requires a lot of filling. Good luck to them, but I doubt it is easy.

I have images of an Alan Partridge figure trying to invent brand new vehicles for himself to pitch to executives. The Grand Tour team will have to invent ideas that don't look like something they have already done before. They were finding this hard on the later Top Gears, where many of the tours went over old ground (metaphorically if not physically), with the same sort of jokes repeated.

It may have got stale because the format was set in stone as it appears to be. A new show may see them rejuvenated.

Naturally they need to come up with new and original material. We don't know how hamstrung they were by the BBC wanting the format to remain the same or what constraints they had with budgets.None of that will apply now.

They must have made a pitch of their new show ideas to Amazon and they found it strong enough to invest a huge amount of money in so I'm optimistic it will be something new and original rather than just TG2.

Not that I would be too bothered with that as I really love watching the daftness and chemistry between CH and M

I’d still guess at a September launch date, and I expect Amazon will promote the hell out of it in advance. So given the studio (tent) bits start filming in mid-July I think we’ll see a lot of promos from about a month or so time from now...
