Line Rental Saver Tie In - Is It Worth It

I have been paying 'Line Rental Saver' for several years when the savings were significantly greater that they are today.

Today's saving of around 10% is still considered good when you look at interest rates in general. However, unlike all other aspects of BT contracts which allow you to cancel everything and free yourself, if they increase any prices in your broadband/calls package, 'Line Rental Saver' seems to keep you locked in, unless you wish to forfeit any remaining 'Line Rental Saver'!

Does anyone still consider 'Line Rental Saver' to be good value when it could actually end up costing you more over 12 months, as it's so inflexible compared to other contract terms?

Yes the non-refundable lump sum payment limits your options when BT announce their next round of price increases in 9 months time. I don't think it's worth it anymore. Sky got rid of it because of the unnecessary complexity it added to billing and the overall benefits not very compelling for the consumer or them. I think Sky made the right decision.

I'm looking to join BT from Sky in the next day or so and think the LSR will be worth it as the rest of the contract is 12 months anyway (of course the £135 Topcashback and £125 reward card help as well).

Are you getting BT TV?

If so you will gain the AMC channel and the BT Sport channels unless you have them through Sky

Yep, the free BT TV box, as I also cancelled Sky TV, and already have a freesat PVR I can use. By moving to BT apart from BT Sports (I like the Bundesliga), I also get an upgrade to fibre and it'll only cost me around £12.50pm after taking into account cashback, LSR etc, wheras my Sky BB was £24.90pm for just normal ADSL2. This time next year I'll look at deals again and move back to Sky as a new customer if need be.
