Assassin’s Creed is a pure waste in every sense of the word. They waste an entire video game franchise, they waste an arsenal of heavyweight actors by giving them nothing to work with, they waste 125 million dollars paying all these people to be in the movie, and they waste one actually decent chase/action sequence on this poorly written junk. If you were looking for Assassin’s Creed to be the tide that turns the sea of terrible video game movies, sorry to say, you will still have to wait because all this movie is good for is being added to the list of top 10 worst video game adaptions.

The poor reviews keep coming. I subscribe to this guy's review channel on youtube and he's slated it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2VFxiPwWCw I still want to see it, but this wave of terrible reviews is starting to crack that resolve a little

This is interesting, because Mark Kermode has reviewed it and actually quite likes it from a film perspective, having not played the games but, apparently, having watched his teenage son play the games quite often.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_heIxA2pdN0 I do like Kermode's reviews as well. |

I like Mark too but he is nearly always nicer about a film after having interviewed the talent involved and he associates the game with his son therefore that makes him view it more positively as well. Most critics are slamming it.
![]() I suppose if you're looking at something from a superficial perspective, as he appears to be when he compares it to watching his son play the game, then I guess it's certainly possible to like it. Heck, I liked Battleship for the very same reasons

30% isn't that terrible though, if that's the case. I guess you have to consider the fact that they need to establish the backstory because not everyone is going to have played the games.
That said, if it's 30% spread over the whole film with small sections here and there then it might not be so good. The majority is set in the past with bits of the future explaining why the Animus is being used and establishing who the Assassins & Templars are. It was even like that in the first game where they explained the basic premise in bits throughout. |

Kermode likes to swim against the prevailing tide. He's a contrarian for the sake of it.

He liked Warcraft as well, to be fair
![]() I'm not surprised AC turned out poor. The franchise doesn't lent itself for a film if we're talking about the whole future stuff. That doesn't even work in the games and is the least enjoyable part about them. I don't get why they made this the main focus of the film rather than the past bit??? Also why did everyone automatically assume this would be great just because Michael Fassbender is involved? Yes he is a great actor but so is Angelina Jolie and Jake Gyllenhall for example. It's hardly the first time an A Lister leads a video-game film and not a guarantee for quality. Having said that I actually like a lot of those films for what they are: trashy campy fun. I often feel like people judge video games films too harshly, in a world were nonsense like Fast & Furious, Transformers and Jurassic World get a free pass. |

Well I first must say I've never played the game!
I watched Assassins Creed this morning which I found so boring as well as slow and only improved by the action scenes! The plot struggled to make any sense but maybe that's because of my lack of knowledge of the game The cast try their best in their roles but I can't see any reason what appealed to them about this film The fact that it's two hours long doesn't help Assassins Creed at all as it's very slow pace in parts that just leads you hoping that they would just finish it! Maybe fans of the game will enjoy it more than me but this was just a boring mess! 2/5 |

Ok, home now and mulled it over. I loved it. Definitely adheres to the source material and gives you want you want if you're a fan of the games, as I am.
Yes, the stuff at Abstergo is a bit stilted but I certainly don't think it's as bad as the reviews have made out. It's the sort of exposition that they could iron out and streamline if they ever did get a sequel. The rooftop chase sequence is one of the best action sequences i've ever seen as well. Definitely glad I saw it. |

Maybe it is a film for a hardcore fan of the game rather than the general public as I found it very dull with average action scenes that kept me awake!
