Many people have said that about many things, many times. Whatever happened to One Direction?, Were they not for ever? This Is Your Life, Top Of the Pops . All TV companies worry about is the bottom line. If audiences fall off and it is expensive to make you will find sentiment takes second place to profit. Even nowthe signs are there for the peering at:numerous "reality" (sic) shows, some of them adopting a soap-like formula. It's because they are cheap, not because of talent or quality. Ten years time it will wall to wall TOWIE, Chelsea, Escape To The Country and other bargain basement time filler.

Think you have to remember the amount who watch on catch up, the amount who watch on the night is no longer the only figures they take on board. More and more people do shift work these days, also many who record using sky.

So true... new times, new viewing habits...

i only really try to catch the show on TV when the boys are on... otherwise it will be ITV hub, or sometimes just you tube for me

I have to agree with this. I find a few characters interesting: Eric, Chas, Finn, Moira, Emma, Lawrence and Ronnie. But I cannot be bothered at 10.30 at night or thereabouts to watch David making an ass of himself, those friends of his who seem to have nothing better to do than sit in the pub throwing things at each other, and the sheer banality of the kids. Especially the dreaded April

You are right TV viewing habits are changing, but I think if soaps are to survive it will be on a smaller scale, fewer episodes each week would be cheaper to make and the quality control would be better. I think the intense interest in soap per se is on the decline. We are only one shop, but we sell far fewer "top end" TV listings magazines these days, the 2 cheapest are the best sellers, and we stopped selling the dedicated soap magazines altogether, a year or two ago, because the sales became poor. I understand we are not alone in experiencing this.

I don't think any of the soaps will be around in ten years time, because the TV companies are (over) killing them, and things change so fast these days. Remember Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?: when it started, ITV couldn't get enough of it: shown every night for three or four weeks, "celebrity" specials. Special bank holiday editions, Xmas editions, special editions for the flimsiest of reasons - for years it trundled on, then the viewing figures slipped, and........ Goodnight, Vienna.

Like every other sort of programme, ITV keep them going because of the ratings:all of the soaps need to employ Ant & Dec to make sure they are immune (with the BBC it will be Clare Balding ), but everything/everybody is a hero for a time, and finally that time is gone.”

Hiya sweetheart

WOW, I feel for you doing such a long shift. Hope you can put your feet up today & take it easy!!

I can't see ED, Corrie or EE being scrapped in the next 10 years. Hollyoaks I can though as it's so cr*p nowadays & viewing figures are down a lot for that one. Soaps generally are very popular in this country & have been for years, soap storylines make headlines & were found to increase sales in papers, because of this soap magazines came onto existence & are still popular. They wouldn't produce them if it didn't sell & there wasn't a market for it!!

I've never been a fan of quiz shows, so much admit I'm glad, who wants to be a Millionaire? is no longer on the telly, wish I could say the same for shows like the X-Factor, that I did actually watch years back & can't stand anymore. For me talent shows & Reality TV is what's been flogged to death on TV & I've generally had enough of them. I don't mind the odd CBB or I'm a Celeb, but screened every other year & not so often & not so many of these type of shows. My pet hate is structured Reality TV like TOWIE, Made in Chelsea, Geordie Shore, which I literally can't bear & want gone ASAP!! The prospect of these type of shows (which are cheap to make) still around in 10 years really depresses me. I do want soaps like ED still around then doing well!!

BIB Really?? Where else have you heard that others are experiencing this? I've seen people still buying the Soap mags at the supermarket & if they weren't making a profit, what would be the point of producing them?

Having said that, I actually don't buy soap mags but used to years back, but as I'm only interested in one soap, didn't seem worth buying, plus you get lots of articles & interviews about Soaps online now. Maybe that's why some sales have dipped on the mags? Must say I thought Soap mags were still popular as I stated in my previous comment & I've seen people buying them & sold out sections for that mag in the supermarkets!! I used to actually also buy What's on TV with the following weeks telly on as well but only ever really glanced at it & don't even watch most stuff on TV so I stopped getting it apart from one issue at Christmas but then most TV then was rubbish as well.

Evening all

Does anyone know anywhere where you can watch old ED eps? It's so annoying that Youtube took them all down.

A few ED YouTube channels have been banned due to copyright complaints by ITV. It's really irritating. A lot of them aren't even full episodes, just clips.

I don't get it when you consider that ITV don't make old eps available via repeats or on DVD. I think they get more fans by having them available.

I really hope this doesn't happen to the YT channels dedicated to Aaron in particular. I actually think these clips promote the show & will bring in more viewers for ITV for the show.
