Yes I remember it. It must have been shocking for me to remember. What happened to the actor? Is he still acting?

It was very graphic at the time for Corrie there wasn't a stabbing on the show before.

Oooh, I have to correct ya there - It was in 1988/89, roughly. An early TV memory for me.
Was it shocking? I can remember we were all falling about laughing around our place - Chris Quentin was a hopeless actor* and his screen death was hilariously hammy. I remember prior to his departure, Mr. Quentin went on a round of chat shows with his new wife who was an American TV personality of some sort, and the two of them kept referring to one another as 'Baby' - The late eighties were less tactile times and this sort of talk just sounded incongruous, especially from a 'regular bloke' like Brian Tilsley. I think the plan was that he would go out to the States with his spouse and take Hollywood by storm. Six months later, he was still looking for work over there, bless 'em. *His son Nick seems to be honouring this family tradition. |

One thing I do think is that Ben Price looks like he could be Chris Quinten's son, it's very good casting in that respect - which is not always the case with soap parents and children.
It's a shame they don't have a few random references from time to time to "ower Briiian" from Gail and Nick

you were well out. It was 1989. And Brian was definitely the fittest of Gails' husbands. I always thought she was punching above her weight with Brian

Chris Quinten started a relationship with US talk show host Leeza Gibbons. He planned to move to the US to marry her and asked the Corrie producers to make Brian a part time character. They instead decided to write him out altogether and in the storyline Brian was stabbed to death.
Quinten and Gibbons divorced in 1991. He eventually returned to the UK for work in a touring show, pantomime, and as an after dinner speaker. |

That depends on what your definition of "disappearing" is actually.
Bert: He died in a mental hospital after suffering a nervous breakdown and having a fatal heart attack. Par the course if one is married to Ivy Nelson Tilsley. Ted: He went back to London after Gail married Joe. Callum didn't have any grandparents (that we know of) |

But he isn't related to baby Harry. He's just his older half-sister's biological father.
There is something else I just realized. Max has two half-siblings. Said half-siblings are first cousins to each other. When did Corrie get so incestuous? |

If I remember correctly Brian never connected with Sarah much at all before he died I can't remember much if Ivy connected with Sarah though.
I'm surprised Bethany hasn't asked much about her Grandfather Brian to Gail or even Martin (to Sarah). |

Oh yes, it should have been obvious, but neither of Sarah's kids' dads are around!
![]() ![]() As for Neil Fearns he had no contact with Bethany for three years before he died and only made two appearances on Coronation Street (both before Bethany was born) and one of them wasn't even a talking role. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnzbTc3h8cA&t=1m10s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXpOIcqTRtE&t=2m58s |

Brian's death itself seems really comical now, particularly with the garish disco lights in the background and Chris Quinten's quintessentially 80s perm/mullet that was already a decade out of date in 1989. As MelSingleton has explained, Chris Quinten didn't actually want to leave the show permanently. He wanted to jet off to the US for a few months at a time, drool all over Leeza Gibbons and then make periodic returns to Corrie. Sadly for Quinten, he had behaved like this through most of the 80s and had been granted a number of extended periods of time off, most of which were explained by Brian going off to work abroad. Gail and Brian's marriage had been around and around in circles so many times over the previous decade that it became unbelievable that they'd continue in such a fashion. What was great about Brian's death was that it opened up vast new possibilities for Gail and Ivy. Both characters (especially Gail) had been stuck in the same cycle of stories for most of the 80s. Bill Podmore made the right decision in killing off Brian. However, I think that killing off Neil Fearns was a stupid move and didn't really achieve anything other than the very short-lived story involving his unhinged mother. There could have been many storylines of Bethany getting to know her dad, especially now that she's grown up. Quote:
