Actually; I had forgotten about this too. LOL!

Corrie is awful for creating a storyline and then not mentioning it again!

What was even the point of the storyline? There were no consequences or drama surrounding it

Firstly the bloke was Argentinian not Spanish otherwise there wouldn't be a story.

Secondly Corrie will often do this they introduce a plot then store it away for later use.

If it was Blackburn I would say yeah, will never be mentioned again, but I'm really hoping Kate Oates is going to be different and that at some point Maria gets in serious trouble for what she did, which is after all strictly illegal!!
Samia needs some proper drama again & that could provide it!!

As an aside I know I'm biased but she was one of the very few bright points in the hen party crap last night for me!! Especially in the police station she was actually giving a convincing performance as someone worse for wear with drink!! Gail on the other hand was bloody terrible, as she always is when trying to act drunk!!

Didn't see last night's episodes (no surprise there) but it's nice to hear that Maria has been remembered as Carla's sister-in-law ...although Carla was also her arch-nemesis at one point so it's a bit odd nonetheless. Well, that's Corrie for you!

As we've both said before, Samia is great at playing a believable, normal character, something which Corrie lacks at the moment.

I wondered what had happened to Maria's husband - she couldn't get rid of him for an episode or two and now he's been completely forgotten.

Maria seemed very drunk very early at the hen afternoon - she must have started boozing at breakfast time.

If you haven't seen it I wouldn't lose sleep over trying to catch up, it was largely atrocious!!
Carla & Maria's relationship has been both complicated and brilliant & one of the crowning glories of Collinson's era was the way, through several gritty s/l's (starting in Kim Crowther's reign to be fair) that they gradually took the pair of them from sworn enemies to a grudging mutual respect gained during & after Tony's factory siege drama, where Carla basically told Maria to save herself, not worry about her & then Maria calmly defying
Tony by ignoring his threats, walking out & raising the alarm!!
We then had Maria being the only one prepared to comfort Carla when Peter 'outed' her as trying to seduce him, during his & Leanne's wedding blessing, which led almost immediately to Carla helping Maria out by giving her the factory PA job when she quit the salon after David got ideas above his station!!
This of course led into the wonderfully complex Frank Foster s/l where Maria was sexually assaulted by Frank & Carla was sympathetic until it started affecting the business then betrayed Maria by letting Frank into the business & starting a relationship with him which took Carla & Maria back to square one, until Frank raped Carla & Maria was the one who immediately set their differences aside & supported Carla through the trauma, so I have no problems with the two of them being close, except for the fact that all the drama I've just mentioned has been seemingly airbrushed from Corrie history over the last few years and Carla & Maria have barely shared more than two scenes together

I wondered what had happened to Maria's husband - she couldn't get rid of him for an episode or two and now he's been completely forgotten.

To be fair, as awful as the s/l was , there was the scene where they said goodbye & Maria told him to "Go & live your fabulous new life, or otherwise why did we bother getting married in the first place" (or something along those lines) which kind of explains why he's disappeared but there just has to be some consequences to it all further down the line or it really was one of the most pointless storylines ever!!
Regards her being drunk early I would guess, working in a salon, she would be the one responsible for getting & dealing with the 'Carla' wigs do she would have been there knocking back wine & helping everyone get ready from the beginning!! I'm assuming Audrey must have had Liam as Kirk was on the stag do!!

I think it was a lame way to make Maria's return more interesting. Other than her just returning back and have everything she left behind just resume as normal. God knows what Samia thought when she read the scripts. If i was her, i would of extended my maternity leave and not return until Blackburn was firmly out the door and Dame Kates Oates was firmly in charge.

Just bumping as I was reminded of this storyline by another thread - is that it as far as this goes? Is Maria still married to him?

Who knows??

If it is not mentioned again then it was a complete & utter waste of screentime, but we know now that
Spoiler

I'm wondering if it's possible that
Spoiler

That would at least make the storyline worthwhile!!

Nice idea ndd ...hope that this is how this story pans out.

I must admit that I'm looking forward to this storyline if Caz does turn into some kind of predatory, manipulative and controlling lesbian. As I've said on other threads, I know of women who become obsessed and controlling over another woman even though there is no sexual or romantic element to their relationship.

Maria's husband was murdered, then she set up home with a gay man, Marcus, then she married a foreign national to get him here as an illegal (legal?) imigrant; now she is sharing her life with a lesbian and Luke. Does anyone know what Luke's sexual orietation is? ). Poor little Liam, so many daddies and mummies.

I think the bistro will shut down due to the constant in-house fighting. This will be the opportunity for him to open an Argentinian style restaurant. I can just see him at your table with a big smile and an even bigger half steer on a skewer slicing off as much beef as you can eat. Cured sausage and barbecued baby back ribs. All at a reasonable price. The street deserves a break from Anna's fry ups. And I'd like it too.

I wish I had thought of that. Do you think he will keep Gail on as the cleaner?

No. Having eaten in some of them you would need someone with a keen eye to spot the boosters. She would be head of security. It's a set payment for all you can eat but when Gail sees people coming in with purses as big as a '57 chevvy she would be watching them to make sure they didn't load up. She will get to be nosy and be well paid for it. A win win for all.
