Well funny you say that, as Sunday night was the night for foreign films on BBC Four. They had a good run of films just after Christmas, but I guess as ever with BBC, the piggy bank is empty.

I wonder just how many contacts it'd take to get C4 to review their policy of having these shows online only? To me, their replies all sound doggedly we-will-not-show-these-programmes-on-television-no-matter-how-much-you-complain. It feels a bit disrespectful to the viewers, no matter how politely they may word their replies.

My feelings exactly. This All 4 Walter Presents things sounds ominous to me. They could start charging for this content soon. That is the only explanantion for keeping content online only.

I'm sorry but why do people always assume that when a network says an item is online, the only way is via a PC or a teeny tiny screen like a tablet/phone. When this is clearly not the case.
All4 is available with the cheapest of SmartTV boxes which is the NowTV box which you can pick up for as little as £9.99 with NO subscription needed Its also available on Amazon Fire TV, EE TV and YouView set top boxes. Totally agree about picture being SD only though. Formula 1 is not too good either on All4. |

Forced Advertising + Tracking
The aim is clear. When shows are broadcast on TV, they can be recorded on PVR etc. Ads can be fast-forwarded and tracking of what you are doing is limited.
Online, they make you log in, so they know who you are; they track what you watch, what you click on etc - and the best bit (for them + advertisers) is that ads can't be skipped or fast-forwarded online. In addition, programmes cannot be downloaded/recorded, so if you re-watch you need to login and be tracked again

Yes but if you are paying Virgin media a thumping amount of money each month for a TV package, the last thing you want to do is buy Now TV or an Amazon stick as well.
That is why many of us are very annoyed. |

I am glad I found this thread, I watched the first episode and coudn't find it on the planner for the next week! It didn't occur to me that the rest of it would be online.
I watched the second episode on line however on hitting the first break which was over 4 minutes I lost interest. |

Conclusion? It's not ominous, it's a strand of cheap programming that C4 hopes will pick up some viewers because of the quirky title and hipster commissioning dude. |

What I've watched so far from the Walter stable hasn't been very good. I looked at the web site and his brief introductions to the shows are pretty poor. The actual shows are below the quality we've come to expect from BBC Four or Sky Arts's foreign language programming. Even Marseille on Netflix is better than the Walter Presents stuff I've watched.

Good stuff, but as others have pointed out, we fear that Channel 4 does not care a toss about viewers' opinions on the All 4 issue. They seem determined to try and milk some ad revenue online to make up for all the DVR ad skipping done on television viewing.
A cynical and totally self-defeating move, given All 4's monthly viewing figures amount to just one popular programme on Channel 4. |

If you take away the whole 'Walter Presents' feature all All4 is basically Ch4's version of BBC's iPlayer/catch-up tv service for any shows you've missed so you can't knock it for that. The only problem is it contains ads, but so does Ch5's MyDemand catch-up service and ITV's ITV Player.

When this airs on Tuesday night, hope everyone contacts Channel 4 to ask them to put the whole series on television, watching a quality drama on a noisy pc or a tiny laptop or tablet screen, just does not do it justice.

I said this before, many of us own big screen non-smart televisions that are too expensive to just dump to get a new box to watch All 4. And most of us pay cable or satellite providers a hefty chunk each month. So please don't think any of us are cheap.

...but it's so annoying. The first episode was a Top Pick on my Sky Q, available in HD and ad free. But Sky don't get the rest of the series. What's the point of encouraging you to watch a programme when only the first episode is available? I can watch on All4 through my Amazon Fire box but the picture quality is awful (SD on a 55" is not good) so I won't bother. I'll have the whole series of Blue Eyes stacked and ready to go tonight, ad free in HD, so at least I've got some Walter Presents to watch. Just a shame that Sky can only offer the shows that have been on TV first. |

Can't get Now TV or Amazon fire stick in Ireland.
Channel 4 are now showing movies at 9pm on Thursdays now, quite insulting to their viewers' intelligence. |

Disagree with most of the complaining.
More 4 can only show things that get an audience, i cant imagine audience would stick with so many foreign shows. The obsessives can still watch plenty online. Also maybe its cheaper to only show online More 4 took one week break and now are airing Dicte on friday which looks good. I may give WP a go at some point but bbc4 and more4 line up has been enough for me. |

The selfish complaining by obsessives thinking TV schedules should be designed to suit their needs and not yours is ridiculous. If you cannot imagine anyone watching more than two subtitled programmes at a time then clearly no one can. |

Unless ofcourse you like to watch movies instead of foreign drama.
Oh, better mention, Sunday nights on Channel 4 are now Penelope Keith and that bloke from Scrapheap Challenge, two heritage, nostalgia shows, enjoy everyone, won't be me. |
