Who actually has a 4K player and how good are the blu rays?

Not got the proper 4k Bluray player, price is a bit too steep at present, I have an upscalingk Blu ray player, which does a decent job of upscaling 1080p to 4K though.

I suspect the rumored new/updated model PS4 will play 4K discs and undercut the price of other players on the market kind of like the PS3 did with Blu ray when it first came out.

Quite possible?, we didn't sell the PS3 (it's not a Sony UK product, it's a different part of the company), but we did recommend them to a lot of people as the cheapest way to get a BD player.

Have you compared the upscaling to that of the TV, if it's decent quality the TV should give better results as it will be using a higher quality chip.

Upscaling cannot generate what is not there. So it won't be 4K.

You are getting tiresome with these pointless replies.

No one has said it generates more detail or makes it a higher resolution.

Upscaling merely scales a low resolution (720x576) to fit a higher resolution screen (1920x1090), the better the scaler the better the results.

Good quality upscaling, as has been used by major brands for many years to reproduce SD, operates in a similar manner to bicubic resizing in Photoshop. It interpolates existing pixels and adds pseudo extra definition as a result to produce a pleasing effect that looks a sort of halfway house to the real thing. The fact that the extra detail is fake doesn't matter as long as the final result is pleasing to the viewer. This months What Hi Fi compares 4K steaming with 4K Blu-ray and upscaled HD Blu-ray. They found streamed 4K and upscaled good quality Blu-ray HD to be fairly similar, 4K Blu-ray they said was noticeably better however.

I think 4k streaming is fine if you're not that bothered about having the very best quality, if you are then go for 4k player which is what I'll do but that won't be until back end of the year.

Both Bluray player & TV are Samsungs, Native 4k Content from USB or YouTube looks great played direct on the TV, what the Bluray player will do is when playing a BR disc will Upscale at 2160p @ 24fps automatically. Looks reasonable but obviously nowhere near native 4k content.
