I'd like something NF based as well, since the only NF one we've done this year was the main rejects round. |

Great weird moments, thank you! Quote:
Thinking about doing best NF reject staging for my contest, if some of yous want more NF based contests
![]() And on selections - I really don't mind if the Danes send some songs over our way or see an opportunity here given the global nature of London - after-all, barring the blip this year they usually do much better than we do and have won the thing twice (and come second - I still really like that Rollo and King song in 2001) since 1997. Their selection contest is also much better done. We may have to resort to looking for Australians with Pommie Grannies and the sort of thing the SRUC was renowned for doing with Kiwis and the Scottish national rugby team in the '90s if it gets much worse. I can't see anybody remotely good wanting to risk their reputations and its becoming a bit of vicious circle and I just wonder how long the BBC is going to bother if they think they're trying and the rest of Europe disagrees. Come to think of it, the same could also be said of Switzerland now, what else are they gonna have to do to qualify again.... Helena Paparizou going again for Greece you say? Does she know the statistical odds against winning twice? Be satisfied with winning once I should think. Johnny Logan was totally a fluke. |

Girl Power
Really wanted to do a Retro themed contest this week so I have decided that the competition is to find the best song by a solo female artist at Eurovision during the last century (i.e between 1956-1999) . Of course many solo female songs have featured in previous contests on here so it would be great if some original entries were put forward. I will be taking entries until 16.00 on Sunday 16th October. Am working the rest of the week but will be online in the evening's to confirm your choices so don't worry if you don't hear from me too quickly.

And no winners you say? So no battles of the French language divas then? Tricky! Do we count somebody who has won but just not with that song? Italy's Gigliola Cinquetti with 'Si' in 1974 (won in 1964) and Sweden's Carola and 'Främling' in 1983 (won in 1991) in come to mind. Might I also suggest any woman whose come second for the UK (of whom there are many) - favourite, Imaani, 'Where are You?' 1998. Hell, just about any woman in the Top 10 in 1998 who isn't Dana International but particularly - Chiara from Malta with 'The One That I Love' and Danijela Martinović for Croatia with 'Neka mi ne Svane', either of which I would have been happy to see win (I was stuck that year on a personal three-way tie with the Dutch girl Edsilia my number 4). Edyta Górniak for Poland in 1994 with 'To Nie Ja' (which was my winner that year). Or how about Spanish options Annabel Conde 1995 and 'Vuelve Conmigo' (love, love, love!) for a properly good entry and for sheer crazy-ass entertainment the flamenco stylings of Remedios Amaya singing passionately about her boat in 1983? Sooo many to choose from here! This is going to be a tough to pick a winner just out of this spew of possibilities, never-mind what everybody else comes up with! |

Despite them not being happy about the fake televote scenario, San Marino are starting early this year. Act and song to be revealed Saturday evening.

Found this. 99% means nothing because it's not very good and it's 5 minutes long but he says he's trying to represent San Marino. Just a warning if so.

Frankly I think a return from Slovakia is more likely than Turkey. |

Well assuming Wikipedia's sources are accurate we're up to 41. We've lost Bos n' Hoz but gained back Portugal and Romania. Assuming Australia are back as permanent competitors (let's face it they ain't going nowhere) then we have 42. We would need Turkey and Slovakia back to reach the big 44.
Frankly I think a return from Slovakia is more likely than Turkey. |

Perhaps they might offer the opportunity for a couple of smaller states who used to be part of bigger states much more recently the opportunity to put in joint-entries to maximise the chances of somebody like Slovakia coming back. A joint Czech-Slovak effort has more chance of succeeding that they have in the past and it might just build on their momentum from Gabriella's qualification triumph this year without loosing anything for either side. For the microstates that might be a positive blessing (though I quite liked Monaco 'Tout de Moi' in 2005 and I adore 'Vola', but then doesn't everybody retrospectively love a bit of Monetta?). And for the ultimate Eurovision non-winning Diva playlist - anybody remember Soviet/Russian music legend Alla Pugacheva with 'Primadona' in 1997? Strangely entertaining. Memorable for their fire is Bandido (Spain, 1991), Sonia (UK, 1993), so close and yet so far...., Elizabeth Andreassen (Norway, 1996) which is elegant and gorgeous and almost makes you completely forget about purple sequins, One More Time (Sweden, 1996) which sounded very Enya-like to me and Ofra Haza(Israel, 1983) which is rather fun with the silly dance. I also reiterate the previous mentions. How's that for a good start? |

Such a shame as well, would have loved to have seen how they'd have staged 'Moment of Silence'. Never-mind, I'm sure they'll come up with something good for next year.... |
