Russia didn't get the juries on board and Australia didn't get the televoting on board enough, Ukraine as much as I didn't like the song did both, they won, move on people! Let's hope they put on a show.

Dunno if they will remix Jamala's song but hey they remixed Carl Espen's Silent storm so anything is possible.

That interviewer on French TV was quite funny. It was interesting how the Azerbaijan singer, Ukrainian singer and some of the Russian delegation (but not the singer) were cold towards what are seen as their 'adversaries'.
However the French missed a rather major thing? Regional flags were in the end allowed for performers competing in the contest, that's what we were told anyway. Even some other flags of neutrals not competing could be allowed I think. It depended more on the context, eg the gay flag not being waved during the Russian performance. |

It's one point if view. You could also argue that our music industry can get very good exposure without having to risk itself to probably national indignity by bothering with Eurovision...

The exact same thing could be said for the very successful Swedish music industry. The difference is: SVT make it worth your while to represent Sweden. The BBC make it a 'poisoned chalice' as Will Young called it when asked if he'd do it. I doubt Mans or Loreen saw singing for SVT/Sweden as anything poisoned.
The difference is: Melodifestivalen makes stars, or makes their careers bigger. Whilst the most our selection will do is pick out a talented random from the public or end the career of an already known artist. They can't really be compared. |

The BIG 5 would hardly ever qualify into the final - all five countries actually made an effort this year and only France and Italy finished respectably. Without the Big 5, you'd lose around 45 million viewers. It's all very well these countries moaning about the Big 5, but without the Big 5 there wouldn't have been a Song Contest created all those years ago. The BBC especially, was one of the creators and founders of the contest.
I personally believe that it should be only Eastern European countries that enter the semi finals because each year more and more of them appear and want to take part, yet the Western European area has remained a constant mainstay over 60 years yet get unfairly thrust into semi-finals that are dominated by the East and often miss out. The plain truth is this: if the UK had to qualify like Ireland do we would have not made the final in 2015, 2012, 2010, 2008, 2007, 2005, 2003...need I go on? We have absolutely zero reason to feel superior over Eastern countries. That we've been in it since the 50s is irrelevant. We certainly bring little to the party these days that anyone else wants and that's all that counts. With our lamentable record buying our way to the final is our only way of qualifying most years. And that's nothing to feel superior about |

Good lord, I cannot believe people signed a petition to change the winner. It makes me angry because it only serves to make the Eurovision fandom & viewership look like a load of petulant kids. No thanks!
I can definitely see the point of signing a petition over the BBC recipes, though
