I was expecting a full blow by blow account of their previous national finals and choices and analysis from you. ![]() I do think it is quite brave to go completely public vote, not because the juries are anything special at the the National Final level, they often aren't (and I do believe Sandhja from Finland got to Stockholm largely off the back of juries liking it, if I remember correctly). Sometimes the juries work well, sometimes they don't, sometimes the 'panel' doesn't really have a lot of purpose - I'm not sure quite what Katrina et al actually really contributed when I got the impression they were subtly more towards Bianca than Joe and Jake (who appear to have been their second pick) and they're views were just that, advice to the audience on what they saw, not votes. Surely you either do it properly or don't have a panel? It would surely also depend on who you've got and whether you've got a jury with people with a lot of relevant experience - I didn't really think that Carrie Grant had relevant experience, the Contest is completely different from the way it was when she did it. I know this is practically sacreligious, but what relevance has Katrina's experience, as much as I love that entry - and I do - again the Contest bares little resemblance to the one she won almost 20 years ago now. Armenia however has a jury filled with people who have a lot of recent experience so I would trust their judgement far more than I would trust a lot of other juries out there - I'm looking at you Stefan Raab.... Of course there is always the fear if you go with a totally public vote that they vote for reasons other than the right ones rather than what a jury should be representing - singing quality, song quality and staging potential. The Danish public didn't do their country any favours this year sending Lighthouse X, but hey.... Good luck to them, I think it better that they trust their people rather than Cyprus who have selected somebody internally or our hopeless attempts and hold a proper public selection is in most cases more open and honest (forgetting the schnenigans of Ukraine 2011, I mean seriously, BOTH of the dropping out artists did better with later songs than the chosen artist that year....) I LOVE selection season, I'm not asking for Melfest in every country - that ain't never going to happen - just something semi-entertaining and reasonably fair and I don't even mind the odd shock results i.e. 'Color of Your Life' versus 'Cool Me Down', I just hope that what we get from Malta is good - for everybody's sake's as I was not a huge fan of 'Chameleon' this year.... |

^ Yep if Finland had've listened to the public only then they would've sent Saara instead.
Malta going public only won't make too much difference, generally they agree with the jury when it comes to the winner, although a couple of years ago it would've meant the amazing banger Hypnotica would've won instead. </3 Saves a bit of money as well and encourages more voting. The sponsorship from ROCS Travel and Mediterranean Bank only stretches so far!

Personally, I am of the opinion that Finland should just let me decide every year. Angelo de Nile would have brought the contest to Helsinki. All for Victory! (and half naked Roman soldiers).

Why do I get the feeling that's the only reason you like it?
![]() ![]() ![]() I actually really liked it! Would have also preferred to send him this year with Annica. Speaking of NFs, though... when is the first one due? I assume Malta will take place just after JESC like in 2015? Then is it a case of waiting for FiK? |

Anything would've been a better option in 2015.Quote:

Do we mean 'best' as in "wow, that was really great, they totally should have won" or 'best' as in super entertaining/crazy/memorable and you were sad that they didn't get the nod (I say again 'Smile' takes the biscuit - even though it would have died in Dusseldorf). It would be a very different list if we were to favour one over another, or am I yet again over-thinking this.... |

Was at a pub quiz last night when the question popped up of 'Who was the UK's representative at this years Eurovision Song Contest?'. It took me longer than I care to admit to work out who it was.
So figured I'd return here for a few weeks in the hope that the knowledge of contests past would help me through the winter.

Overthinking it. It's about staging. So the song could be utter crap, but the staging amazing.

Reg next contest. Are winners also allowed as long as you use NF performance?
