Do you not watch the Olympics and the World Cup?
Yes. And I certainly wouldn't want the Eurovision Song Contest to get like that. The Song Contest always had a large element of charm and uniqueness. It was something that Europeans "got" and even when it was bonkers was never really ridiculed. It is already starting to take itself very seriously indeed. It needs to look at itself and maybe take a couple of small steps backwards. I don't want it to lose its charm. But this year, as good as a show it was and kudos to the Swedes, it felt that it was on the verge of being something that it never should be.

I'm pretty sure itv can they used to host jesc I thought ukib was talking about independent broadcasters bbc is a state run broadcaster. Other channels have independent broadcasters who do eurovision. The ebu is the organisation used by the channels for broadcasting that's why the bbc not doing revision would not save them any money as they use the ebu eurovision just comes in the package. Even the ex head of the ebu said itv can broadcast it as they are ebu members and that bbc should hand it over but they won't because they are selfish and only broadcast eurovision as cheap TV for 3 hours plus the only reason they are in the big5 is because their channel is so big and the bigger the channel the more money given to the ebu.
I didn't say ITV couldn't. I said that it wouldn't be as easy for them to do so as posters assume. From looking at the updated list of EBU members, it clearly states that United Kingdom Independent Broadcasting is the EBU member which includes ITV, C4 and S4C. This is from January 2016. Other countries have commercial broadcasters of course, but they are listed as sole EBU members on the list. ITV isn't. Whether it was this reason that stopped the JSC being broadcast by ITV I can't say, nor do I know, but it clearly and categorically suggests that ITV's current EBU membership is one of a shared arrangement with Channel 4 and S4C.

It should also be noted that you refer to the ex-head of the EBU. The current one might have a wholly different opinion.

The city of Dnipropetrovsk has renamed itself to Dnipro. Perhaps this will make it a better candidate for Eurovision.

All this Russian nonsense reminds me of how they tried to get the Olsen Brothers disqualified after they won and Russia came second because they used that voice distortion during the performance which they claimed broke the rules about pre-recorded vocals even though they were clearly singing live. Pathetic really, no one was demanding Believe be disqualified for being shite.

So, still no Kaliopi in the final, instead Belarus take Australia's spot. Latvia and Switzerland both got a lot of 11th places, the latter so much that they nearly doubled their points! Macedonia are the only country to lose points, and Latvia, Ukraine, Switzerland and Georgia have the biggest increase.
Ok, I haven't done so until now, but this has now made me resent Australia's participation...
(Plus the fact of some deluded people moaning how it would've been a more "worthy" winner, though it's nothing but...)

I have always resented Australia's participation in the contest. Mainly because it shows favouritism from the EBU to a sole associate member. And, because as highlighted, traditional Eurovision countries miss out.

And pray tell who misses out because of Australia's participation? Keeping in mind there is room for 40 participants in the semis. The ones that 'miss out' either can't be arsed, can't afford it or in Romania's case, completely bust.

Oh wait are you on about traditional Belarus missing out because of Australia even though the other day you were moaning about the evil Easts domination.

I personally believe that it should be only Eastern European countries that enter the semi finals because each year more and more of them appear and want to take part, yet the Western European area has remained a constant mainstay over 60 years yet get unfairly thrust into semi-finals that are dominated by the East and often miss out.

If my posts make you angry, then ignore them! I didn't say that the East is evil either. I was suggesting that the Eastern participation is now so much greater than the west and that Eastern countries should enter the semi's, if only for a proper balance of European representation. Yes, traditional Eurovision countries miss out because Australia is only an associated EBU member and as such is not entitled to participation without the EBU's permission. Therefore full EBU members, who pay more into the system, may miss out. It isn't that hard to understand.

For those who want ITV to take control of the ESC, take a look at this snippet from Wikipedia:

Eurovision Song Contest

The United Kingdom's entries in the Eurovision Song Contest have been entered by the BBC each time, However the United Kingdom's, Junior Eurovision Song Contest entries were broadcast and entered by ITV in 2003, 2004 and 2005 but did not enter the 2006 contest because of low ratings. S4C were speculating in entering the 2008 contest with a Welsh language entry but, in the end, S4C chose not to enter.

Which suggests that they would take over the contest - but ONLY if ratings warranted it. It would only need a shift where the UK had to enter the semi's and failed to qualify for ratings to drop for them to drop it.

Of course, the Junior Song Contest is not on the same level as the main event, but it does suggest that the Eurovision Song Contest isn't really a fit for ITV. Low ratings and limited commercials during a three and a half hour primetime slot, would not be an appealing proposition for them.

It only shows that it wasn't really a fit for a child's contest that was better suited to CITV ten years ago, yes it does show that. Today? Main contest? ITV? Who knows...

Well of course, as surely would everyone if it was their fave, like some of the men you lot tend to inexplicably drool over

Your behaviour is really getting to a new level of low... You act worse than a 6 year old, tbh. (Still haven't seen an apology from you from your earlier lapses, either...)

ITV would show nowhere near as much commitment to the ESC as the BBC have. Supposing it is all political, and the UK's entries were still finishing at the bottom of the table in the way they are now, even if the songs were really good, do you honestly, truly believe that ITV would stick with it?

In 2004, the UK was meant to host the Junior Song Contest. ITV pulled out within months of the event for "financial and scheduling reasons". Now, considering the BBC has stepped in three times to host when other countries who had won the previous year pulled out of hosting duties, that suggests that ITV could never ever match the BBC's commitment. Sure, they may not want to host at present, after all during the last four years, a collossal £129 million has been spent on the contest week, but they do give it high profile treatment and are clearly keen to retain it as a key event in their entertainment calendar. Even if it dipped to 4m, the BBC would press ahead with it. ITV wouldn't. You can only trust ITV with the ESC if we got results that ITV were happy with. If those results failed to materialise, ITV would drop it. And then we'd have no UK coverage at all.

She already has, numerous times.

Edit: And FYI, I shall not be apologising for doing absolutely nothing. That's just bullcrap.

Nicky still blaming the Eville Eastern block. He said only Western countries finished in the bottom 4, forgetting that Norway beat Slovenia and Albania.

Also, I was reading the tweets about his performance too and the vast majority of the positive comments were from Irish people. A lot of people thought the song was bland and that his singing was bad.

Maybe Ireland, Denmark, and UK failed because all the teenage girls were busy drooling over Donny Montell for some inexplicable reason.
France came sixth and achieved their best result since 2002 and their first top ten result in this decade, in fact their average score over the past ten years was worse than the UK's and they haven't won since 1977. The UK and Ireland could crack the top ten again if they really tried.

A good haircut would do wonders. Look at what it did for Mikael Saari, turned him from a Victorian Era dandy to someone with Eurovision Boys tumblr potential.

I must admit, those leaked pictures of Sergey are worth a good tug off, even if I wasn't fond of his song.

I'm happy for Australia to be in the contest as there is a certain freshness about it that the BBC can learn from but I did (and still do to an extent) have some reservations about the EBU allowing Associate Members to compete for the reasons already established and because it sets a bit of a precedent.

I'll be watching with interest in the future to see where the decision takes the contest.

I probably would have been more happy for Australia to not compete this year but have a new guest country/associate member every year as was speculated in 2015 when the announcement was first made. Are Australia in it for the long haul now?
