4 semis of 7 songs each, the top 2 from each qualify directly for the final. Then 3rd and 4rd place go on to the second chance round (Andra Chansen) where they face each other in duels and the winner of each duel goes to the final. 12 finalists in total
Thanks! I like the idea of duels in the second chance round

There's even a flashing/flatlining heart in the corner of the screen so you can see your favourites dying in the app vote.

Sounds cool

That's so cruel....I love it.

Meanwhile in Belarus... the accordion guy is back and doing the same act he did in BGT.

Yep, Lukashenko is definitely voting for this.
OMG the Polar Bear. I love it.

A nine-foot polar bear playing a balalaika, looks like national final season has officially started... How did such a masterpiece not get through?

Still working my way through the Belarus chosen. It's a slog.

Vladislav Kurasov looks less like Justin Bieber than he did last season in the Ukrainian semi-finals.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoU1mwheegc

Strangely enough his English seems worse this time around.

Surely Nuteki can't get away with ripping off the intro to Coldplay's "Sky Full Of Stars". It's bloody blatant.

Napoli's effort is bloody lame. Place your bets now as to how many NF's she'll be chancing her arm in this year.

Navi is my pick, but even that song isn't a patch on their previous entry.

I presume they have the option to change the song of the winning act prior to May as previously, otherwise I don't see Belarus in the Final again with any of these efforts.

It wasnt the first time she had returned either...
True. We just have to wait and see.

I hope Loreen is not "in it to win it" but more to have "fun" and promote album, and it seems like it is.

Nuteki - 'Take My Heart' - I'm sure I've heard that opening music before? Reeks of plagiarism. Shouty nonsense. Go buy yourself a Lemsip.

That's it! Well done, Chickens.

Fill yer boots!

The Spanish hopefuls ready and waiting for listening.......and Baguette made it through, unsurprisingly...

eta... oops, seems they are still adding songs to the list, but there's only 5 more to go it would seem.

Am liking what I'm hearing so far.

Javian's "No somos heroes" is very "Sofia" in sound imo. Think it may do well in the webvoting.

And "Sparkling Lights" has an Empire Of The Sun feel to it for me. Really liking that one.

"Esclava" has diva written all over it. OTT and majestic.

Dani J - Background music in a Tapas bar, this is so naff and outdated. In his head he probably thinks he's the next Jason Derulo.

LeKlein - Like the production, but the lyrics are cringe, what little I can understand of them with that Manglish.

Jon Josdi - Like this! Enrique-Lite.

Fruela - Phew I thought it was going to be some bleeding heart ballad dirge at first. Love the production, it's like a male version of Faded.

Pedro Elipe - Here's the ballad. Here's the stop button, next.

Shannel - Generic summery trash, just what I like.

Padre Damian - Kind of like a Spanish Troye Sivan, I don't dislike this.

Brequette - Winner.

Javian - This is what happens when you say yes to everything and end up with 20 different instruments in your song. Mess.

Javi Soleil - Not for me, but former D'Nash man would probably give Spain a half decent result for a change.

Strvkid ft. Silence of the Wolves - Like the production, but vocally they sound flat and this is in studio! Will be a car crash live.

Milena - Really like this, can imagine her being a sultry badass on stage already.

Nieves Hidalgo - WTF? You're about 40yrs too late dear...

Rebeca Moss - YouTube confirmed my suspicions, she's a slutpop diva that's watered herself down with this dross to have a crack at ESC.

Inigo - I wasn't expecting the hipster to have the voice of a 10yr old girl.

Gio - Next.

Detergente Liquido - The guitar drowns her out. ESDM should've tried that...

Ektor Pan - Exactly what I was expecting. Nothing original here. Next.

Alicia Nuhro Band - She's named a band after herself? I can tell this is going to be some pretentious shite already. A 30 second piano solo, suspicion confirmed. Skip.

Ander & Rossi - These will do as a totty replacement for no Samir & Viktor in Melfest. The tropical beats aren't half bad either. Me likey!

Paradise Phantoms - If Uptown Funk had been released in the 70s. Terrible.

Iranzo Iranzinix - Guy with guitar fodder, which goes all Daftpunk meets pre-set tones on a Yamaha keyboard in the chorus.

Wildback - At least they didn't call themselves Bareback I suppose. I'd have loved this in my teenage emo years, thankfully I've grown up now. Another one who sounds like a little girl.

Romy Low - This is right up my street. Brequette's Runner-Up. Vamos! <3

Ivete - Well I can see one issue straight away. 6mins 39. I like the upbeat sections. Might be alright once they cut the dross out.

Carmel - This wouldn't play. I'm guessing it's probably a guitar ballad. Don't think I'm missing much.

E-Twins - Not what I was expecting. Got a crowd pleaser vibe. Not terrible.

Nito - This is alright. R n B summer banger.

Overall they needn't have bothered trying. Brequette's got this in the bag. Start preparing your Kiev plans girl.

I missed that one and Lem Baquero's. Nicky's is every bit as bad as the title suggests. The world's strongest cheese has got 3 minutes of competition with that! Lem's is just a generic R n B slow jam.

I think Brequette's "No Enemy" could do well for Spain but I thought that as well for Barei's song "Say Yay" .

Some Spaniards think "No Somos Heroes" would be the best choice; basically it gives Europeans what they want/expect from Spain.

Are we not still expecting Ruth to be one of the internally selected competitors? I'm sure she could crush them all.

Brequette can't sing live so I don't imagine she'll win anyway.

ESC Best Group Ever

Welcome one and all to the competition to decide which is the best group ever in Eurovision.

We are mercifully devoid of boybands, but one approached me the other day, begging to be in the show, perhaps the opening number, even for appearance fee of a paltry Ł100. So I took their money, and here they are:

Here is the actual list, a fine selection of recent and older Eurovision songs. The order is entirely random, except for ABBA in the pimp slot, of course. Enjoy.
