After seeing Phil's reviews of the Best Group contest yesterday, I just couldn't resist doing mine - and I think these are my first reviews here ever, so please be kind
![]() Finland 2014 Love it Serbia and Montenegro 2005 One the best intros ever in ESC, and the instrumental parts are achingly beautiful, as is the poignant melody. (Who cares if they dance in tune or not...) Oh, and "Love love peace peace" was supposedly composed to this melody. Finland 2006 What can I say, this is almost a national anthem now And I have such great memories of it winning.Spain 1973 A timeless classic Turkey 2010 I love Turkish rock (although even more in Turkish); but this was just magnificent, even in English. I liked the preview video more than the stage show, but it was still magnificent (and the singer looks & sings uncannily like a British ex of mine...) UK 1997 Good anthemic song, just missed out on points for me Latvia 2006 Sorry, but this is just so boring! The robot is the only memorable thing it... Norway 2005 Catchy glam rock - and this was probably partly be what encouraged Finland to send Lordi the next year... Germany 1985 Very good, and how kitsch is that 80's fashion now ![]() Switzerland 1977 Forgettable (unlike most 70's entries) Russia 2007 Horrible, with very crass innuendo, and not-so-innuendo ("my bad ass spinning for you")... Why did Russia ever stoop this low? ![]() Romania 2012 It's ok, though never understood why this is so popular UK 1981 Hmm, what to say without upsetting anyone here; it's happy and catchy, but even they themselves admit the lyrics are nonsensical, and "Johnny Blue" should definitely have won that year... Germany 1994* Never understood why this is so popular, an ok party song I guess but nothing special Bosnia & Herzegovina 2009 One of my favourite entries from the last 10 years, possibly ever; in parts heartachingly beautiful, moving and very majestic. The implicit references to communism, in lyrics and the "battle formation" tableau starting at 2:21, with the red flag and all, were an interesting move, seeing the contest was in Moscow... This should have won! Moldova 2011 Like Phil, I far prefer their first entry, with the drum-beating partying grandma, there they were like the Moldovan Red Hot Chili Peppers, here just a random bunch of lunatics... Bosnia Herzegovina 2005 Never understood why this is so popular either, it's ok but nothing special Germany 1979 Another timeless classic, and a positively crazy one at that Portugal 1989 One of Portugal's best entries (though a bit risque to reminisce your country's colonial past in ESC )Sweden 1974 No comments needed ![]() Most sadly missing are Mor ve Ötesi, Teräsbetoni, Tublatanka and Vanilla Ninja - the last one I only remembered later on, though I guess an Estonian girl band representing Switzerland was always a bit of an oddity... |

This was a very close second to "Ein Lied kann eine Brücke sein" in the German NF. An absolute classic from Uncle Ralph with something for everyone.
Any other year.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbJpbb-o9VQ As for Melfest, I'm concerned about the "feat. Aninia" associated with JH especially if this is an example of her work. She's going to interrupt his joiking. ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mftrsZHTiMk .......that's not Peggy March as in Little Peggy March of "I Will Follow Him" fame from the 60's? Is it? Sounds like Uncle Ralph had the blender on max speed for that song. Bloody awful. I did have a feeling you'd be getting wary of JH's companion act. Maybe Christer decided he couldn't inflict another 3 minutes of "Hey ya ho ya hey ya ho ya " on the audience and shoehorned Aninia in.

Milena's Momento is emerging as my front runner of the Spanish hopefuls...
the Spanish online voting is open now. Vote for your 10 favourites.... http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision/eurocasting/ Expect an unholy amount of votes for Padre Damian. ![]() A Danish rumour too. Apparently there will be no groups or duos in DMGP this time around, so all soloists by the sound of it.

With a bit of luck, there will be no public vote either.
![]() ![]() ![]() Can we just have a committee of DS'ers deciding the result of every NF? |

Killed it. And not a backing singer in sight.
If she doesn't win, I give up on the world. ![]() Ok, maybe a bit dramatic... |

I wonder what kind of odds you could have got right after she was in the singoff for two weeks in a row...she's down to evens now!

I saw a few tweets for how the Finn's can hack their phone settings to vote for Saara.
