Another year in the semi final wasteland for Ireland.

I know we all make fun of Louis but he wouldn't have lasted this long in the industry if he was just the bumbling fool the media likes to portray him as. Hopefully he's found something decent.
I take this back, what a moron. Did he not see what happened last year?!

I never thought I'd say this, but - Please bring Eurosong back! That's how bad these internal selections are.

Holy Jesus, Ireland. 7 wins and 7 wins only.

Oh piss off girly-voiced boyband flop
I can already imagine the song will be some acoustic guitar driven dirge with his awful whiney voice on top of it

How the mighty have fallen! I'm ashamed to say I've liked quite a bit of HomeTown's stuff but always found him to be the weakest member so even as far as boyband members go this was the worst choice imo.

Well, I wasn't expecting Ireland to fulfill my dream ESC 2017 artist list - not going too badly at the moment, got chances of Albania and Italy and a few more that I can't remember. Not looking like it's going to be a bad year at the moment.

So Alexander Rybak is performing on You Decide then?! alright I suppose.
whatever happened to him promising never to perform again and never do anything Eurovision related ever again after Milki lost? Shame he didn't follow through with the promise

Relistened to all of the Swiss hopefuls, if they don't choose Ginta they might as well quit forever (not that she'll qualify but at least she might become a Suzy-type fan fave)

He will sing for Belarus in a few years im sure of it. Talking of winners, wouldnt be shocked if Marija came back Serbia soon she often still pops up at events

The Spanish really know how to do a revamp.....loving Brequette's updated song
I think it could be pushed even more into "bop" territory though!

Disappointed but unsurprised to see the tripe that Ireland will be sending again. Would genuinely prefer if we pulled out for a few years and returned with a concerted effort rather than letting that clown from the X Factor take the reigns. Now if the song somehow turns out to be amazing I'll be quite happy to be proved wrong.. but I have my doubts

Louis Walsh says he's looking for an Ed Sheeran / Sam Smith style ballad. X Factor winner's single reject?

As someone who is Irish, I'm disappointed to see that my couuntry is sending something boring and uninspired again. I mean, of course we can't judge before we hear the song, but as of now, things aren't looking good

In some weird way, I want Sweden to match/beat Ireland's record so RTE gets a kick up their backside and starts sending in genuinely good stuff.

He might just find something decent. Even if most of the songs submitted to the open selection are rubbish, Louis still has the option of falling back on professional songwriters, given that he has plenty of contacts in the industry.

Translation: a Shane Filan album reject.

Was thinking this myself today, it'd be interesting to see if they'd do anything differently then. Really excited about Loreen's return and what she could bring

And besides, we all know how awful the sound is in that RTE studio.

Re: Ireland. I shall reserve my judgement until I hear the song, I remember myself and most of the forum feeling very pessimistic about Blue back in 2011 but that went down as a forum favourite.

What's that phrase? Don't judge a cake until you eat it or something like that.

Wasn't really a fan of HomeTown, so will have to see what song they come up with. It seems quite late for Ireland to be starting a song search now, doesn't it?

Heard the main contenders for Estonia, Elina Born still easily the best imo, although Liis Lemsalu and Daniel Levi were both OK. Kerli's song is disappointing, her music seems to have been getting progressively worse recently. It's no Skyscraper, that's for sure.

It is! I don't think any Irish entry ever sounded good performed there. Having said that, Ryan Tubridy appeared to suggest the ESC song would be premiered on the show sometime in the New Year, so maybe we're in for more of the same

They opened the selection even later in 2009 I think : two or three days before Christmas Day but that would have been the latest ever.

That was a weird 3 days and all for what?

Ireland have got their work cut out from the sound of things although I do get a hint of Tom Dice in the voice.

Hang on, there's a song in Eesti Laul which is literally just a list of European countries?

Well it worked for Dustin the Turkey (oh wait, it didn't...) I notice they dodged the Macedonia/FYROM conundrum...
