It had to have been a close thing between Nina and Jamie-Lee (my choice) surely. Once they got Nina out from the oversized packaging I thought her (lighthouse) dress was quite elegant.
I quite liked both of Nina's outfits. Jamie-Lee's on the other hand still makes me irrationally angry. I'm all for self expression but her outfit was ridiculous, had no connection to her staging or her song and made her look like a child whose parents had given up and let her wear whatever she wanted from the dressing up box as long as she left the house. Fully deserved last place based on that alone!

I wondered whether Nina's giant monochrome housecoat would snag the Barbara Dex Award, although I agree that her under-dress was rather nice. I was surprised that the voters were so against Bosnia though. I did think it would be between Nina, Jamie-Lee or maybe Greta. Perhaps Jamie-Lee only coming second is a show of tolerance as you just kinda accept that accept that a Western interpretation of a Harajuku girl is who she is so maybe that saved her from snagging both last place in the Final and the BDA in one fell swoop.

It still amazes me though that Barbara Dex herself is a good enough sport to let it go on - or that people would risk appearing in list of 'winners'. Perhaps that's the point, that there still is enough of the old-fashioned silliness left that such a title continues.

Any favourite BDA winners? Verka Serduchka probably (in a Dolce and Gabbana-designed outfit no less), but that's such an obvious answer. Maybe the more interesting answer is second or third favourite thus far (lounge suit from hell on Guido in 1998 or hair extensions as jewellery matched with a genuinely odd, angular dress on Rona Nishliu in 2012 anybody?) And if we are talking pre-Dex, ABBA takes some beating 'cos I'm sure they might have been the only winners to take away the prize had such a thing existed at the time - and let's not speak of CoCo in 1978, Sweet Dreams or Norway in 1984, Celine Dion's notorious white ra-ra skirt in 1987 and so many others....

I really think what made Jamie-Lee finish last was the staging more than the song or costume, she should have used that moon set I remember seeing her use for the song in a video. She didn't have one of the better songs but her performance was absolutely fine, and there were certainly other contenders for worst song (including some hyped ones like the French one). Whether people liked the costume or not it wasn't as slapdash as some, and that would be my criteria more than just being different. If you just want people to play it safe and look the same it would be a more boring event.

I agree looks bloody stupid , if sh is going to remains in the music industry eventually she will have to drop that daft Asian charity shop kitch as that will have a limited appeal as she gets older. Makes her look about 8. No correlation to the song either. Glad she was last as i predicted.

I also like Nini's outfits. Pretty cool actually and imaginative.

I don't think it's a case of saying you either play it safe or don't - the issue with Jamie Lee's outfit is that it jarred against the lyrical content and style of her song. Against the staging, too.

I'm all for taking a risk but thematically, her outfit choice was confusing, especially for a song that had such clear theming pretty much dictated from the lyrics and musical style.

Perhaps one could argue that they were trying to completely subvert traditional audience expectations when you hear the song is called 'Ghost', however since they didn't do that with the staging I'm not sure that argument would hold up.

I can imagine the visuals overall left some viewers confused.

They shouldn't have lasted for a nanosecond longer after Eurovision, let alone a whole year.

It wasn't actually them! Just a couple who really reminded me of them in say 30 years!

From a Western perspective. The argument is that she wasn't approaching it that way.

That maybe the case starry - but evidently Jamie-Lee didn't explain her thinking as well as she might have. And she could have gone for something monochromatic or played about with colour and shade in the fabric to match the backdrop without necessarily significantly changing the design. She could have gone down a different and equally Asian line whilst still fitting into the staging and themes of the song - unless there's some element of Japanese mythology or something that we are all missing and that rather proves my point about communication.

She just looked too bright and garish that just didn't look right to a good proportion of the European audience - after-all, it is called Eurovision, some concession is to be expected. You got to help you audience understand a bit better and relying on us saying "oh, she's into Asian culture" isn't enough in this case. There were ways and means to do it - you can get a way a lot if you frame it right and I don't really think she did.

On the other-hand, I don't think Nina would mind one bit being voted to the Barbara Dex, she's well aware of the Award and thus something tells me she's totally cool with it....

LMAO at Nicky's comments. Stay pressed Mr. http://www.rte.ie/ten/news/2016/0523...ne-eurovision/

Also with the whole Germany coming last debate. Shockingly it might've come last because the song was deary as f*ck.

I thought there'd been something in the news, one of the Russian fans on my twitter feed is having a bit of a meltdown.

I didn't mind it myself, but she really didn't help herself with the staging and it's not really a song conducive to inspiring people to vote for it ahead of all the other possibilities on the table.

Here's hoping Russia's dummy throwing is only temporary until cooler heads prevail and they rethink the decision.

Apart from the u2 comment, there is a decent amount of truth there. You really do need to jump into the "hype" category quipu ire quickly! You need to be a big favourite really. France shows it can be any country really. No one knows what will do well until it does well!

To be fair, as much as some Russian fans did take it too far, there is some basis to their claims about jury problems. I'm sure if Russia had won, people wouldn't have been so quick to brush the blatant issues under the carpet.
