Hello everybody! What a Christmas! Please God let nobody else cool die before Midnight 1 Jan…. Oh, and given that I struggle with just picking a Poll winner weekly and thus often don’t vote, to not come dead last is a triumph!

I expect nothing else from FiK – there’s a warped charm about
Albania’s efforts each year, it’s either completely chaotic, they pick the wrong song, they death by ‘revamp’ or a suicidal combination of both. It could do with a touch more drama and the intro is not arresting enough to win over voters quickly, but I quite like it, it’ll likely grow on me and half decent staging, it could get through. Okay, so it started in English, was converted into Albanian and
Lindita has form for English lyrics at ESC, but after the self-immolation of ‘Përrallë’, I remain cautious.
Lindita is a safe choice and there are only so many ways to destroy it. And this is for the best really, sure, it’s not superb, but do you actually want RTSH to host ESC? Could they? If you thought ‘Battle of the Cities’ was embarrassing….
Quite like
Armenia’s pick of a singer. They are gonna go ethnic aren’t they? It would work, I confess that ‘Jan Jan’ goes along with
Bobbysocks!,
Riva and others in my ESC guilty pleasures file.
Like the
Greta Zazza song, stage-show had better be good, but wow are LRT cramming a lot into a relatively short time. Should be interesting….
Montenegro – all the ingredients for classic ESC camp! Excellent! And forgive me, the tit-bit that
Slavko Kalezić and
Marija Serifovic were each other’s beards is extremely depressing and odd given that there’s no way anybody could have mistaken
Marija for anything else given
that staging….
My dear
thengp12 – I started in 1990 as a 9 year old sent to bed before the voting was finished and had to look up the results on Ceefax the next day. Imagine being beaten into second place twice in a row and
absolutely detesting ‘Why Me?’ (Ireland, Winner 1992) and your mother going – “never-mind, there’s always next year” in a faux consoling voice.

Sitting through ‘Love City Groove’,
Gina G being a bit crap,
Portugal just missing out on 5th place by 2 points and
Poland getting robbed too! No wonder I got grounded for enthusiastically celebrating the
Blessed Katrina’s victory,

a long bloody time coming, never-mind by rage at the crap we get from the BBC every year now….
About Melfest this year – forgive me, but
Loreen, why? She doesn’t need to. Hasn’t she seen the odds on winning ESC twice?
Lena,
Niamh Kavanagh,
Dana International,
Elizabeth Andreassen,
Gigliola Cinquetti,
Izhar Cohen and despite the polish and finesse of Swedish staging and PR
Charlotte Pirelli and
Carola could not win a second time.
Johnny Logan was a fluke!
She has so much general popularity in Sweden and overall quality to at the least be in the top 3. So what happens? She wins and says “sorry Christer, I’ve had my turn, let somebody else go” and the second place entry finds themselves the
Francesca Michielin of the Kyiv Contest? WTF! As a PR stunt it sort of blows and undercuts all the other competitors, or does she actually think she can do it twice? Simply not cricket!
