Bit of an odd question and stupidly early given that its literally a year away, but has anyone ever done an Allsang or Lotta Pa Liiseberg trip?

I'm well up for going to Sweden in Summer next year (I'd have gone this year but in a fit of madness have decided Norway... in November... should be my Scandi trip for the second half of 2016) and wondered if anyone had any testimonials as to how enjoyable the shows are?

Lviv is out of the running to host apparently, they've chosen three finalists rather than two: Kiev, Odessa and Dnipro. Winner to be chosen on Wednesday.

So they've changed their minds again and now there's 3 finalists for the 2017 host bid:

Kyiv, Dnipro or Odessa.

Hoping Odessa gets it, not that I'd be going, but I really like their Eurovision by the sea proposal.

Lviv definitely seemed the most suitable to me so that's a little surprising.

Lviv didn't have a suitable venue, not sure Odessa do either, putting a roof on a football stadium that wasn't designed for it isn't cheap. Will be very surprised if it's not Kiev.

A little push from me in that if you want to enter the "Bottom 10 since 2000" contest you have until Sunday 24th July 5pm to enter.

I have 13 entrants signed up so far.

What options do we have? Did everyone get their first choice?

Odessa have gone for a tent in the stadium, the sketches look wired. I have a strange feeling that the hosting duties may go to one of the big 5 countries or there will be some kind of quick fire bidding process. either way unless Ukraine pull an Azerbaijan and build an arena from scratch I see nothing but disaster

Either way the EBU only have Bjorkman and themselves for this headache

They're talking about passing the ownership of the Palace of Sports (which hosted in 2005) from the state to the private sector, who will then fund the renovation to host it there again. That seems the most likely solution, it's smaller than recent venues but they seem reluctant to spend big and create a new venue. They could do what Copenhagen did and convert the Kiev Exhibition Centre into a temporary arena, but that was pretty expensive when Denmark did it.

I think a lot of this city bidding has been a bit of a PR exercise for the benefit of people inside Ukraine really, most cities clearly didn't have a suitable venue.

I think the issue is Ukraine never expected to win it so are still shocked really. I think Russia already had an idea what they wanted to do after winning. I am also sure Australia has a sort of plan in action. Don't know about France (who were favourites for a while).

There's a hockey event on at the Palace of Sport around Eurovision time, there's talk of moving it to the end of may but the hockey people in Ukraine are not happy.

The Exhibition Centre is probably the best bet really, I guess with that its not going to be too difficult to make a temporary arena out of.

The best arena option would have been Sportkompleks Illichivets in Mariupol but I guess that was out the question given its location

The Exhibition Centre is doable but Copenhagen went so far over budget by going down that route, and the problem is that Ukraine is the poorest country to host for quite a few years, I think their budget is less than even what Sweden spent on Malmo.

The cheapest option would be to move the hockey, which they've hinted they'll do if necessary, but it is a bit unusual that a country so large doesn't have one single suitable arena as things stand.

There was quite a few planned ones and ones starting construction before the revolution and the troubles, specially for this Eurobasket thing

The more this drags on the more I can see someone else having to step in and salvage this mess. None of the venues sound viable, especially compared to what we've been used to in recent years.

How Odessa thinks this can become this, I've no idea. How would it support all the rigging and lighting and ensure the right acoustics? Dnipro's 'Meteor' similarly needs a full refurb. Kiev's main venue isn't even available, their only option is Eurovision-lite back in the old 2005 venue.

Still at least if Ukraine do run into some problems, there's always that prison in Denmark that's willing to host if necessary!
