I really don't think the Polish result can be put down to just diaspora. Remember they only came 15th in the televote last year. I managed to persuade my German flatmate to watch the final for the first time ever and his favourites were Poland, Cyprus and Armenia. I don't doubt the Polish diaspora votes will have helped but I definitely think the song had a broader mainstream appeal than we all gave it credit for.

Look at that happy little face. She truly deserves it. The great welcome I mean, not her face.

Also, if you're struggling with the Post-Eurovision Blues, why not head over to this fine new thread to make yourself feel even worse by reminding yourself of some entries that didn't quite make it to the final?

Vote for the entry you feel most deserved to qualify for the final, but sadly didn't. It'll take like two seconds!

If you haven't voted already, that is...

Thanks.

This is probably a good enough reason by itself for subsequent countries to have a "party" stadium... keep the drinkers away from the live broadcast
Oh trust me it was very annoying having swedish teenagers falling everywhere and screaming MANNSS everytime he appeared on screen! Mind you, there was a group of middle aged swedish women who werent much better!

Thank you to everyone who's been voting over the past few days. Hope you have enjoyed the results
Great work porchy. If only that result could've been real. Looking forward to 2017 and having your namesake back in the mix!

So what does everyone think the BBC will do next year? I personally think we should continue with the NF. It produced some credible songs and although the result wasnt what we wanted the performance was good and the attitudes of Joe and Jake were impeccable!

I'm really not sure. I watched a press conference from Stockholm of J&J with their HoD Helen (I think?) And more or less, someone asked her if You Decide would be back. And, she didn't say yes. It sounded more to me like 'Well, let's see how this goes first'. I really hope they do continue with You Decide but it would be typical BBC to jack it in after just one attempt since that obviously wasn't the result they hoped for. They get a bad result if they try, and the same if they don't. So why bother? They still get what they want out of it - good ratings etc.

Ehem, there are (millions of) other genres of music than club bangers, and happily so - it would be a very poor contest (that I'd totally lose interest in) if it had only so-called "club bangers"...

Ukraine is probably my favourite winner ever (apart from Lordi), and it has returned my faith in Eurovision, unlike last year's boring winner. There is still (divine) justice and beauty in this world, hooray for that!!
I guess you're not that bothered about the televote winner finishing third like you were last year then?

I'm definitely in favour of another NF, although I hope next year we have less of a safe selection and have something that's a little bit more 'out there'.

I still don't know what people saw in Finn & Jake's song, I always thought it sounded like something from a One Direction B-side circa 2010.

I wish I hadn't found out about how many disgusting comments about Destiny there were on Twitter (calling her a "fat c*nt", saying she looked like Shrek etc.)

When does the BBC normally confirm that they're entering? I note that today that Norway and France have confirmed that they'll be returning - and Kazakhstan may be entering too.

We're usually pretty quick, but I suspect that the White Paper discussions might mean that the BBC are wary of committing to *anything* at the moment...

The White Paper shouldn't really make much difference. Eurovision is the perfect vehicle for the BBC - a congregation of national broadcasters coming together to celebrate the continent we live in with music. Can't get more distinctive than that. It's also a national event which the BBC are encouraged to televise. The LF is guaranteed for 11 years anyway and the Song Contest is incredible value for money for LF payers. It ticks every box really.

But thanks for letting me that we're generally quite quick. I'll keep my eyes open!

Definitely. It's just about finding the right balance. Not as 'quirky' (if you want to be nice) as last year's entry, but not as beige as this year's entry. We'll get there eventually, however long it takes.

I wish I hadn't found out about how many disgusting comments about Destiny there were on Twitter (calling her a "fat c*nt", saying she looked like Shrek etc.)
Urgh. Probably a little something called jealousy there. (Although I did joke about her being like a baby elephant at MESC this year, but that was due to her plodding accross the floor so loudly when she was supposed to be surprising the contestants Was nothing to do with her weight) Destiny is already really well known and her appearance just helped her exposure even more. For a young girl, a lot of people will know who she is. I'm willing to bet she'll be very successful (at least in Malta) when she's older. Even if that only amounts to her appearing in MESC a couple of times, it would still be great.

Little random non-fact for you all... when Denmark (red and white flag) hosted back in 2014, Austria (red and white flag!) won. Two years later, Sweden (blue and yellow flag) hosted, and Ukraine (blue and yellow flag) won. Time for a Bosnia win? Or Kazakhstan's potential debut leading to a trip to Astana?

They need to repeat what they did in 1992 and 1993. Pick a star performer (but a credible one) and get them to sing 4 songs written by a credible writer and composer and we get to choose which one we like. When they did this in 1992 and 1993 we came second both times. They must be able to persuade someone to perform and someone to write. But I guess it depends on whether the BBC actually care that much. It's a huge entertainment show that gives them great ratings. So, they're winners anyway.

And this is the time that I think of a better comedy name....

Brilliant work chaps (especially you lovely portugal, but that backdrop ), that would have been an amazing result

I kind of want Simon Cowell to get involved. Like it or not, he has a nose for talent, and you can bet he'd get the promo right. The BBC strikes me as well-intentioned and keen, but they just don't have a handle on the current state of the music industry.

Or we throw the established method out the window and enter a metal band. Nothing to lose.

Simon Cowell should be kept well away from Eurovision. He has such an eye for talent that he fast tracked some Stormtrooper dancers into BGT. No, I don't want our entry to be a standardised Little Mix meets Olly Murrs. I would actually like something like "Love Will Set You Free meets Euphoria". A big banging techno-ballad. That could be awesome.

Perhaps Molly would have done better if the Beeb forced her to write 6 songs.

What credible song writer would write 6 songs, to chuck 5 of them away?

Shimmering across the stage with hair in his face, choking on fake snow.

One who gets paid a bit of money to do so, and who can keep the copyright of the 5 songs not selected. Song writers write about thirty songs for an album but only use a third of them. It wouldn't be that hard to persuade one. Besides, they might already have written them but never had a reason to use them.

Who's going to want to touch a eurovision reject. The copyright would be useless.
