And that is exactly why I dropped out of Media Studies at College.

Perhaps you can enlighten me

Given that you can see all the graphical effects scrolling past on his laptop on a set timetable, why is he manually calling the camera cuts? Surely they could set them on a preplan and just override if something has gone wrong?

The lighting effects were bloody intense in the Arena. I had to look away at one point and I'm not even light sensitive normally.

I don't think Eurovision can claim any of the glory for this, but Justin Timberlake has debuted at No.1 in the US with "Can't Stop The Feeling". I'd expect to see it perform similarly all across Europe soon after Saturday's promotion.

Not sure how much truth there is in this, but...

PTA (Public Televisions of Armenia) are discussing a withdrawal from ESC.

Interesting. I wonder if the BBC are too? Turkey is apparently saying that they will only re-enter if the Big 5 are scrapped. Without a UK entry in the final, I doubt many people would bother watching in the UK.

Oh dear indeed. It kinda seems insulting. Sure, the UK regard it as a bit of fun, but this guy just doesn't get it at all does he?

Hopefully, the EBU would never allow the USA to enter.

Each entry they showed was to make it look as ridiculous as possible. Considering two of them didn't even get to the final and the less said about his piss take the better.

The BBC won't pull out, like ever, its a massive institution which after 61 years provides guaranteed Saturday night ratings on a May evening. I do think scrapping the Big Five would be good for the contest as a whole, as its a little bit insulting to have a divine pass to the final no matter what rubbish is sent (*Cough, Electro Velvet, Cough*) and I think it would motivate the BBC to actually qualify and up the quality of their entries. Aus had to this year. (Although I don't think they ever will)

The BIG 5 would hardly ever qualify into the final - all five countries actually made an effort this year and only France and Italy finished respectably. Without the Big 5, you'd lose around 45 million viewers. It's all very well these countries moaning about the Big 5, but without the Big 5 there wouldn't have been a Song Contest created all those years ago. The BBC especially, was one of the creators and founders of the contest.

I personally believe that it should be only Eastern European countries that enter the semi finals because each year more and more of them appear and want to take part, yet the Western European area has remained a constant mainstay over 60 years yet get unfairly thrust into semi-finals that are dominated by the East and often miss out.

Yes. The great founding Western countries of Greece, Moldova, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina, San Marino, Belarus, Macedonia, Slovenia and Albania were unjustly thrown out in the semi-finals this year. It's all dominated by the East.

Edit: Countries should get through because of their song's quality, not because of their geographical locations. Send Denmark through with their Lighthouse II Inches and Ireland with their Mr Bean because they've been in it a long time, doesn't matter how bad the song is. No thanks!

The ex-Yugoslav countries have actually been in it for longer than Ireland have.

No they haven't. Yugoslavia, as one single country, has been. But the millions of countries that formed after the break up have not.

6, to be precise.

(8 if you count Kosovo and Vojvodina 'province' - not in ESC)

No wonder a good American friend of mine is always apologizing and embarrassed because of her countrymen/woman.

She enjoys Eurovision too.

I do personally think it's harder for western countries due to them having little to no diaspora around europe unlike eastern European countries plus they tend to stick together due to culture reasons.

Perhaps I exaggerated slightly! But don't forget that three and a half million countries joined after the break up of the USSR including Russia. So the east expanded whilst the West stayed the same. That's why I think there should be just Eastern European countries in the semi finals.

3 and a half million countries? Was there an apocalypse in my childhood that I blacked out, we've only got about 200 recognised countries now.
