Were any of you ever 16? Didn't you ever have a strop when you thought your parents wouldn't let you act like a grown up? Yes I am aware of the irony of throwing a strop when you weren't treated like a grown up. But it is what happens.
Can't John Doe (his name escapes me at the minute) join the church in a position other than a priest? I mean surely he could be a part of the church and have a relationship? And does it matter what job he does for them as long as it shows he is committed to god?
Gotta love Toadie yesterday. "Oh hey Aaron, you set up accounts on three social networks that takes a child 2 minutes to set up. Would you like a job?" Obviously that isn't quite what he said, but if setting up Facebook and Instagram counts as being worthy of a job working for a lawyer, then it's open job market season in Australia it seems.
I think the difference with the guys in Neighbours taking off their tops compared to Amy being a saucy cleaner, is that most of them don't make money from it. I know Aaron was a stripper of sorts, but he didn't toddle off to someone's hotel room to do it. Plus they are sort of painting that guy as a pimp, which in a sense I guess he was.
It is still silly of course, but then lately, as has been pointed out, a lot of what is going on in Neighbours is silly. I wonder at times how old most of the writers are.”
Of course we were all 16 once and have experienced our parents saying or doing (like banning us from something) that we didn't think was fair. I'm sure we have all experienced believing we were grown up enough for something when our parents disagreed and who knows, we might even have been right whilst they were wrong. I'm sure we all 'flounced' and screamed and shouted that it was unfair thugh some of us might have vented to friends rather that just letting rip at their parents. I for one would have known that any tantrum would just make them more resolute in whatever decision they'd made, probably make any punishment worse so what was the point.
I have no problem with Piper behaving like a stroppy 16 year old - that's realistic. It is just that it goes to prove the point that she is still only a teenager who reacts in an immature way (strops, sulks, tantrums, ultimatums, lying) and therefore her parents (and Tylers) concerns that she is too young to be in a relationship with somebody so much older than her are valid.
There's a huge difference between being a Priest and just Ann active member of the church. Priests are Gods representatives on Earth for one thing - it is a much closer relationship - a calling that is over powering and takes precedence over everything else - including Earthly relationships. If somebody feels that calling, they are unlikely to feel complete just being a 'part timer'.
There's been this disparity between men and women being objectified in things such as stripping for a couple of decades now. Men doing it, they're still in control and it is 'just a bit of fun'. Women do it, it is sleazy and they are being abused in some way.
Look at the Aaron and Amy storylines here. It has been made clear that Amy was desperate for money, she was a single Mother, trying to clear debts her Husband had left her with. She saw no other way of surviving and hated doing it, is ashamed of having done it. Aaron enjoyed dancing, enjoyed displaying his body, chose to do it when he had other options such as working as a Mechanic. It was fun. He was in control.
I don't think there is any suggestion that Amy did anything more than clean, or indeed that any of her clients did anything (i think we know what i mean) in her presence. But it is a fetish so i guess the implication is that her clients will have stored up the image for use later on when they were on their own. And a lot of people will find that uncomfortable.
I agree the current teens are pretty dire. Piper has become an immature brat and Xanthe has regressed to how she was when she arrived and Ben is just a sanctimonious bore. I too hate that they not only got away with the theft but are pretty much being rewarded with everybody falling over themselves buying them new clothes for their formal (what happened to the Kennedys money problems btw, they bought the new suit easily enough) etc and behaving as though it is the only party they'll have their entire lives.
