If Chappers 'specialises in football' then he's even better on cricket and rugby league than I thought!
His Hansie Cronje documentary on 909 a few years ago was outstanding and as good as anything I have heard on the station in over 20 years of listening. |

Mark C presents cricket, both forms of rugby and is at The Olympics, so hardly just a football man. Bar whoever presents on a Thursday, the sports presenter are mainly going to be doing football

You don't need knowledge of sports to present them on the BBC. Clare Balding was able to present the track cycling earlier this year, despite a n overt lack of knowledge of the sport.
I've never rated Mark Chapman. If he had a choice between presenting coverage of a football match involving a top English team or the England team, or presenting rugby league/cricket/Olympics, I am certain he would choose football. |

Great hearing John Inverdale over the weekend covering the Golf. For me, still the best Radio Sports anchor in the business, who can cover any sport well. The others specialise in one thing, like Chappers with Football.
But definitely the word has gone out to all reporters in every commentary, whatever the sport, SHOUT and make it sound really exciting, so we can use the clips in sports bulletins every half hour and on trailers that make you reach for the volume button. |

Inverdale, whether by choice or design, is criminally underused on 5live. Beggars belief that an execrable void like Kelly Cates gets the time she does whilst Inverdale only does the Open.

Well they should either use him or bin him.
Pougatch has gone virtually full time to ITV, there's a vacancy for a versatile, knowledgeable engaging anchor for big events. But no, we get the fourth division lot brought in. |

Interesting to know who decides that an author should get a free 30 minute plug for their new book at 11.30pm
More curious as to who's interested in listening anyway. 5live. News, sport and free book advertising. |

Mark Chapman isn't 4th division, he's a top sports presenter in the majority of people's views and even generally gets good reviews on DS which I'm sure you aware, is generally just full of bile/hatred so he must be doing something right!

You may choose to be a fanboy. Other posters are making perfectly valid points which do not delve into "bile and hatred". What an absurd comment! This is a discussion forum for critical comments made by listeners to the station, as well as the glowing praise that you offer. Stop shutting the discussion down simply because you disagree.
I gave my opinion on a presenter as have others, that's all |

No problem with Chapman at all. It's the Perry's, the Riley's and the Cates who grind my gears

Interviews with people on radio who have something to plug. Whatever next?

She used to say how through much of the first 6 months it was a pain getting celebrities on the show but once October came around and books, DVD's started to come out in the run-up to Xmas all the agents who'd practically ignored her for much of the year were phoning up desperately trying to get their client on the radio even offering to get them up to Salford |

At 11.30 pm the Phil Williams show has an entertainment half hour chat on a monday and a sporting chat on a wedneday. Thursday is usually the end of QT and the phone in. They're the sort of features I'd expect on this show. I'm just curious as to who decides to have such a gear change to put on a pre-record of some novel by an author I've never heard of. Who approves it ? Who checks they aren't a friend of a member of the show getting a free plug ?

What an embarrassing half hour while I was having a late lunch between 2.30-3pm. Sarah Brett talking to a new age bore about imagining your feelings of anger and upset as colours. He did a session on her as she described a "yellow tightness in her chest". The word excruciating sprang to mind. When listeners texted in to ask why he was being given free airtime, he called them "constipated".
Put this disaster of an afternoon show out of it's misery. Whoever booked today's guest should be spoken to. It was local radio fayre circa 1992 at best, not a national station, with so much going on in the world. |

On the John Inverdale discussion, I thought he was great at The Open. A real class act. Now that Mark has finally left Saturday afternoon to go to BTs, it would be great to hear John Inverdale back on Sport on Five.
I notice that Kelly Cates has left Football on Five, so is she up for the vancant Saturday afternoon slot? |

What about georgyboy Riley ? Has he been given the flick ? That would mean his TV career would now be confined to the comedy darts on BT.
