What about georgyboy Riley ? Has he been given the flick ? That would mean his TV career would now be confined to the comedy darts on BT.
Chappers is doing Saturday apart from the Olympics

If they are not hiring Inverdale to be at the helm in Rio it'll be a travesty of epic proportions.

The main 5 Live service missed so much when covering the Olympics in 2012. It'll be worse this year. At least there is free television and online coverage.

According to the BBC iplayer, Rachel is back next weekend. I wonder if that is for good?

I will be sorry to see Clare go and I hope some provision has been made for her to stay on.

I don't want to be seen as Nicky bashing, but I genuinely feel he would benefit from a new challenge on the radio station. When he's away the programme seems more lively and with a greater sense of occasion.

I also think Chris Warburton has been great on breakfast this week, as was Chris Mason today and I'm sure Tony Livesey will be next week. There seems a certain freshness to the programme when Nicky isn't there. It feels younger and less deferential. I have to say too that the presenters seem to enjoy it more.

Rachel said she was coming back in September so I don't know if that has changed. I agree that Claire and Chris should both have prominent roles after she does come back. Nicky is well past his sell by date and should do something else now. I don't care if he isn't on the radio.

I notice that Georgeyboy is presenting the evening sports programmes now. I don't know if he has left Breakfast. Are he and Nicky going to Rio? I listen more to LBC now so I have missed it if they have said anything.

Duncan Barkes is in for Nolan tonight and tomorrow thank goodness and golf on Sunday night.

I thought Rachel was coming back full time in September but maybe she's being like a third person while the Olympics is on?

Guess George is doing sport in evening instead as they don't need to pay an actual presenter with little live sport on. Caroline Barkers in Rio but don't think Nicky's going

Barkes doing a great job tonight. Calm but authoritative interviewing technique, not once has he lost control such that a 'holddddd onnn, holddddd onnnn' has been needed all night. The one downside is having the thick as mince cockney female on to ruin the paper review.

I totally agree. It was a pleasure to hear the paper review, apart from that awful woman who says "I fink" and "uvver" for other. She says she was a teacher!! Charlie Wolf actually managed to finish his sentences without the pompous Bishop butting in and Duncan Barkes made sensible comments when necessary. There was none of that sensationalising Nolan's own interviews taking up half the paper review time, or him being frightened of his own shadow in case anyone said anything remotely likely to have the BBC sued.

Broadsheet rather than tabloid broadcasting.

I notice that 5 Live's coverage of the Olympics won't be interrupted for coverage of the Football League, but will be interrupted for commentary on the Community Shield.

If there was just 1 Premier League match on Saturday at 3 pm, it would be on 5 Live instead of the Olympics. So this isn't a case of them showcasing the Olympics; it's a case of only the Premier League and Champions League matter.

I expect the Football League coverage will be on the BT Sport app?

I expect it will be nonexistent except on Friday night. I wouldn't mind if the Premier League got the same treatment. My view is that the BBC should concentrate on the Olympics and leave the football to TalkSport.

Totally agree with the previous comments on Campbell & Nolan.

Campbell is on auto pilot most of the time, especially during the 9am phone in. Unless he gets an opportunity to quote a literary passage or song lyrics to show off how clever he is, he sounds miserable and bored. Time for a major shake up on the station.

Rachel Burden's hoarse thin voice reading the news bulletins does not work for me, infact I think it's poor for national radio.

Barkes as permanent host for Nolan. The show suits him more than BBC London where he lacks the common touch and is not a Londoner anyway, he lives in Sussex, so has an obvious lack of local knowledge. Simon Lederman is better on that show.
Barkes has found his niche on 5live. Sign him up.

Will be the morning RIo time, doubt there'll be much of any importance going on.

Think its the start of the Ladies cycling road race and qualifying games for sports like Archery/Basketball.

I am sure if something big does happen like a GB medal 5live will quickly interrupt the commentary - after all they do that well!..

Or it's a case of Five Live knowing their audience. I suspect more listeners are interested in the Community Shield than the Archery qualifiers.

The weekend of the 13/14 Aug will be harder for them as it will be the middle weekend of the Olympics (including "Super Saturday"), the start of the Premier League season and the final Test at the Oval.

Does anyone know why Five Live has changed its golf commentery team? For years the coverage of the majors in golf has been excellent yèt tonight is sadly weaker.

It makes no difference which events are happening when in the Olympics. If there is a football match involving Premier League teams, the football will take priority, even if TalkSport and the BBC's local radio stations are also broadcasting football at the same time.

They'll cut into the Olympics for potential Gold medal moments

didn't listen to the golf so apart from the excellent Iain Carter I don't know who they used but I guess a lot of the usual golf guys are getting ready for olympic commentary next week? Murray (rowing) ABB (cycling) would usually be expected to do the golf.

Add Conor McNamara to that too. Euros, British Open, USPGA, then Rio and then new football season doesn't really give them much rest/prep time

I have no problem with that. The Olympics are important but there will be other news and sport going on at the same time and Five Live only has two radio stations to play with. It's not as if blanket coverage isn't available through BBC TV and online.

Oh dear. What an unpleasant tetchy sounding Monday Night Club with Georgyboy, Chris Sutton and a Scottish journo.
