Paul Lambert as well.
Chris Sutton is quite confrontational I think. |

Oh dear. What an unpleasant tetchy sounding Monday Night Club with Georgyboy, Chris Sutton and a Scottish journo.
A conviction for assault no barrier to a job on 5live it seems as long as they're a gobs.... |

If they had done a Monday night club on a different sport such as cricket or rugby league it would have been more pleasant. Manyy football fans are worse when discussing football than 5 Live's guests.

That was all down to Sutton who was gratuitously nasty with Reilly. Seems to have become the go to man for monday nights over the last few months, but who is becoming more unpleasant every week. A few months managing at Lincoln City gives him the right to pontificate on managers who've won European cups.

I felt really sorry for George. Whatever he said or asked seemed to get an angry or confrontational response from Chris who treated him as if he was stupid.

Sutton is on because of his confrontational views - going down the Talksport line. Gets people talking. I thought it was a bit of both - George Riley was being somewhat of a wind-up merchant in return.
Eilidh Barbour was the other voice at the US Golf - usually good but I thought she struggled this time as well. |

Can I be controversial? I thought this morning's breakfast programme was great. I think Livesey is far better than the incumbant, he was funny at the same time tackled the hard subjects well. He blended well with the team, great repartee with Claire...he is the future at breakfast time.
And before people accuse me of Nicky Bashing...he has been there too long and is stale. It would do him good to try another programme. I know Tony's not to everyone's taste, but I really enjoyed the programme this morning, just as I always enjoy his and Anna's drivetime programme. |

Do they really have to play those relentless pointless shouty sound clips every time after the news or a break?

A week since the last test match finished and 2 days till the next starts, you could say we're in the middle of the English cricketing summer. A pity that neither Phil Tufnell or Michael Vaughan could make themselves available for a show carrying their name.
More fool this station for tolerating the pair, neither of whose broadcasting talent warrant such indulgence. |

Listening late at night on earphones is torture. Doesn't it occur to these people that every listener is not sitting in a car with traffic noise and needs to have their eardrums damaged before they can reach the volume button.

I disagree. The programme was a lot poorer them not being on and presumably they have good reasons for not being on. With the bits and pieces post-playing careers they now have it would be surprising if they were to drop other long planned gigs for an occasional programme that moves round the schedules like a leprechaun.

Twitter apology from 5Live:
https://twitter.com/bbc5live/status/760819724250996741 I didn't see this personal account tweet or hear the discussion so can't say if it was "offensive" or not. Anyone any the wiser? Or fuss about nothing? |

There seems to be an internal BBC competition as to who can produce the loudest shouty screamy things - both the radio and TV Olympic trailers make me dive for the off switch, and to prove nothing is sacred I turned on the radio this morning and had to hit the volume control during a Radio 4 trail for a play about the Clintons...before the 5.20am shipping forecast!

BBC Radio Five Live has apologised for a tweet asking someone to speak about "why the Welsh language should die" on air.
I'm sure the rent-a-mob brigade are forming in the village square

Thanks for the info and links Dave.
I do think that the production teams at 5Live fall short of professionalism some of the time. Tweeting something like that was bound to cause offence to people and create a furore, it's no good saying the discussion itself "was balanced". Why was that absurd question even asked? It's like they were deliberately looking for a guest to be controversial on air. The Rajars come out tomorrow. We'll see where everybody stands, but wouldn't surprise me if 5Live's figures have gone down. The station needs a major shake up after the Olympics in my view. |

Radio 4 is my go to station when I've got a headache and want a quieter time without the shouting!

It's been on a monday evening all summer, taking a break when the Euros were on.
2) It has variously been on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays as well as Mondays. |
