Whenever Nolan is doing a breaking news story he's always keen to tell us that the BBC do not report specifics unless there are two corroborated sources.
From BBC Editorial Guidelines on Accuracy/Gathering Material:
"We should try to witness events and gather information first hand. Where this is not possible, we should talk to first hand sources and, where necessary, corroborate their evidence. We should be reluctant to rely on a single source. If we do rely on a single source, a named on-the-record source is always preferable."

In other words' say whatever you want as long as you have a name to hang it onto, no matter what the veracity is'.

Out of curiosity, why do we need effectively three presenters this afternoon. Mark Chapman at the cycling, Sonia at the athletics and Nihal at the boxing. Why can't one link all three? It is really difficult to see what Sonia and Nihal are contributing here.

I've read that the BBC have got 272 million people at the Olympics & it's costing £12m !

Jonathan Wall, station controller, is in Rio too. Maybe that's why Nicky is sounding so miserable, as he's in Manchester!

Fair play to Caroline Barker. I tweeted her this morning with a criticism, and she replied immediately with an explanation, whilst live on air. She's now my favourite!

Agree with those praising Mike Costello - a real master of his craft. What a shame he is paired with that complete idiot Darren Campbell though.

Mike Costello is consistently brilliant, whether commentating on boxing or athletics. Fast becoming a legend. Darren Campbell isn't that bad- he's less annoying than Leon Taylor on the diving on BBC1 & 2.

About time someone told that odious Sonia Mclaughlin where to shove her microphone. All week we've had 'I don't want to put you on the spot by asking you this' but then proceeds to do just that. Did it with Ennis-Hill and with KJT, making them really uncomfortable with questions they were never going to answer, but she asked anyway. I boggle at the criticism Inverdale gets but he's worth a thousand of the wretched Mclaughlin.

Tifany Porter put her in her place this morning after she asked one stupid question too many after the 100 M hurdles.

Can someone tell Judge Rinder and Jonathan Wall I have no sympathy whatsoever for an 18year old convicted drug dealer who'd been arrested several times before, and found himself in prison. He had 2 parents at home, not a child from in care, so he chose to break the Law and was being punished. He then played the Islamaphobia card. If he was a practising Muslim, he wouldn't be dealing drugs at 18. Stop moaning!
A bleating programme about the Youth Justice system, with no condemnation of the serious crimes some of these 'kids' commit, including Murder.

This programme was preceded by Posh Boy Will Gompertz Arts show where he claimed he went around in a Clash and Sex Pistols T Shirt as a youth. Really?

That followed David Davies presenting the Sports show again, with his bizarre delivery like he's making pronouncements from the top of a hill not behind a mic.

What a shower of $h**e 5Live was this morning.

Nihal is in Rio? What is his area of sporting expertise I wonder? I haven't listened to a word of 5Live since the Olympics started and can't wait for normal programmes to resume. Having said that the odious Nolan is apparently back tonight.

There are still non-sport programmes on. Nihal has so far been at the Fencing and Boxing. He feels the need to say something profound at all times instead of just being conversational in a natural way, like he's trying too hard. His description of Nicola Adams' medal ceremony after winning a Boxing Gold for the second time made her sound like Mother Theresa. Just relax Nihal!

Oh the irony of Alastair Campbell talking about Mental Health issues on Nolan last night.

The BBC seems to have forgotten Campbell's disgusting bullying behaviour in contributing to another person's state of mind which lead to his death. Dr David Kelly.

Yet they continue to fawn over Campbell and lap up anything he says unchallenged.

Do I sense a little disagreement going on? This and last Monday morning, the Monday Morning Breakfast Club was greeted with eulogies from Nicky about how he enjoyed it all and it was fantastic.

I wonder if there is a second opinion, one which I would share, that there should be no room at all for such tosh on a fast moving breakfast programme. I wonder if there are debates away from the microphone where we might find others on the production crew who see this as a less than apetising way to spend around 15 minutes. Maybe they don't see the value in hanging on to the the thoughts of two hardly heard of football pundits giving their view on long gone games.

It is hard, if not impossible to believe, that luke warm rubbish like this is greeted with unanimous applause by a group of journalists trying to get stories on to the radio.

I don't suppose Nicky's praise is really making a public point to support his mate George. No, that wouldn't happen would it?

Does the BBC really need to run those screaming halfwit clips every time they talk about sport?

For example when talking about Joe Hart why did radio 5 feel the need to run a clip of Alan Green commentating on a Hart save? Just WHAT is the point?

I agree about the clips...I am really getting fed up of people screaming at me! I didn't mind at first, but it's been a good month now and I could really do with everyone calming down.

I loved the Olympics, fabulous coverage from 5 live...but the constant clips of people verging on hysteria is starting to do my head in!

They find any excuse to run them now. Like I say why did we need to hear a clip of Alan Green when they were reporting on Joe Hart? Yes we know Joe Hart is the England goalkeeper and he's been dropped by City. That's all they need to say, no need for some clip from months ago.

As for the other stuff I swear they turn the volume up on those, my ears hurt!!!

I had to turn Breakfast off this morning as the same clips from the Olympics were being played over and over again. One clip featured a woman commentator who wasn't so much commentating as actually screaming in a hysterical manner. It's over the top and ridiculous to keep playing the same noisy clips.

Noticed the football/cricket combo was back tonight.

Did they try and compare them to the Olympics?

She was expressing her excitement about Great Britain's women's hockey time becoming Olympic champions. There was a summariser who just as exited. I heard the clip this evening during a discussion on the impact of Great Britain's Olympic achievements on participation in sport. What I found interesting is later there was a montage featuring lips of television commentary rather than 5 Live commentary.

Yep I heard thicko Savage defending football. Same as on Talksport where the pigs bladder brigade reckon their sport is special and they can't learn anything from other sports. Same old same old.
