I note you claim to be 96.

It is hardly worth responding to someone who believes that a person should retire merely because they are 70.

Peter Allen is beyond all that. He is one of the true radio legends and he can still do it. He out shines those around him and is a joy to listen to. He is class. I don't expect everyone to agree with that, this forum is about opinions, .but please don't dismiss him just because he is older than those around him. That is just plain rude.

I thought he was from Tottenham?!

I'd love a shake up Overnights. Can't stand Dotun or the bloke who lives in America.

That's exactly what I thought when I read the first post. Can't remember what name the original fruitcake went under, but the content hasn't changed. Didn't he get banned?

Was it brain_higgy? He got banned back in late 2014 and made a number of posts in the original 5 Live thread about Peter Allen's age and was always calling for him to retire. Plus he was critical of Peter being out of touch because he didn't have a twitter account!

Disgusted with Drive for calling the death of a Bradford woman in Pakistan, "an honour killing".

It was rape and murder by her own Father and ex-husband, and should be described as such on a BBC News programme.

Later on we had a voxpop from a Manchester pub with a woman saying Jeremy Corbyn had "London centric views" on the drinking after work issue. What a load of tosh. You can go into any pub in London and see women drinking. It's got more to do with him being 66 and out of touch with modern society. You might aswell say 5Live is Salfordcentric, and that would be accurate.

The motive is preserving the family honour and that is why it is an honour killing, even if we find it dishonourable.

That's him as others have said. Should have remembered that name as the one thing he lacked was a Brain. Thanks Robbie, well remembered

I'm well aware of that, but her only fault was getting divorced and marrying another man. That is not "dishonourable" in the 21stC and the BBC should not pander to the notion that women are to be treated as chattle and if they step out of line, to be raped and murdered by members of their family. People get fired from the BBC for saying the wrong word or perceived racism, yet their news reporters describe murder as a cultural event. It's about time they left out the insulting cultural references from the dark ages, and reported it solely as a murder.

Really enjoyed listening to the US Open Tennis on Sports Extra last night. The Kyle Edmund match was great, but the play by plays of old have disappeared to a more chatty style of commentary now, and you don't always get every point played or know exactly what's going on. Shame. If they're there and providing live coverage the absolute focus should be commentary of the action.

I still don't think Russell Fuller is as good as Jonathan Overend was, and David Law is better. Sara Orchard is developing into another Sonia McLaughlan.

It really is amazing how Britain does so much better at many Sports now, from Tennis to Gymnastics to Diving, yet still the focus in the media is always Football.

Speaking of Sonia McLaughlan she is once again demonstrating how little she knows about rugby this afternoon. I still remember when she interviewed the member of our ladies 7s team at the Olympics who had lost her hair. She was plainly uncomfortable talking about it but Sonia did not even notice and ploughed ahead like a bull in a china shop.

Whoever thought replacing Nolan with Adebayo this weekend was a good idea?

Last time it was Duncan Barks ex LBC. Who did it before when Nolan was off?

Sometimes Adrian Goldberg has done it and I like him. Nihal has also covered.

I totally agree. They also lower the volume of the court so you can't hear the umpire giving out the score clearly. There are plenty of gaps in tennis for chatter so there is no need for chatter during commentary.

Another annoying thing specifically about US Open coverage, is how they are not at the court they're commentating on. They become distracted from the match they're supposed to be broadcasting because of what's happening on the court they're broadcasting from.

They often don't tell the listeners that they are not at the courts they're covering, but it is obvious, especially when they start switching between courts.

I had a late afternoon kip yesterday, fell asleep with the radio on.

When I heard Dotun, I thought I'd way overslept as I was going to see a band last night. Luckily, it was only 9!

to be fair to 5Live, i don't think they have commentary spots on other courts-- apparently sky only used to have a commentary box on the centre court there when they had the rites and just off tube the other matches from that commentary box. no doubt you'd like sky to be telling viewers this as well?

No need for secrecy when even if they wanted to, they would not be able to broadcast from the courts. It is extraordinary that in the world's richest country, a major with so much hype around it doesn't have facilities to enable broadcasters to broadcast from the courts where the matches are taking place.

Hi,
Correct me if i am wrong but BBC FIVE LIVE is a British station ?

So, if so, why was the England game on but the Scotland game wasn`t ?

And yes i know BBC RADIO SCOTLAND had it but people that were out of Scotland at the time

could have benefited from being on 5Live or even 5Sport Extra that couldnt watch it with it being on

a paid channel (Sky)

The cricket was still on R5SX so that was not an option . From what I can see it was *not* on BBC Radio Scotland and perhaps you should be asking why not? People out of Scotland still have access to the online stream of that radio station.

Edit: Ah! I see it was only not available on FM.

I've read that Peter Allen is going to do a weekend programme with Jane Garvey & someone called ? Emma Barnett is going to take over his weekday slot.
