I thought the US Open Men's final would be on 5 live tonight, not Sports Extra. Thought they'd make space for it like they did for Golovkin v Brook.

They clearly thought the boxing (involving a Brit) was more important than the tennis I guess..

I guess its another decision that will divide opinions!

Sure it would have been on the main station had Murray been in the final...

The Paralympics clashed with it (or some of it)? If it did then it's a fair decision, possibly with sport running from midday yesterday till 7:30 (end of 606) and then again from 9:30(ish)- 1am that any more sport might be overkill, I can see why this decision was made even if it didn't clash with Rio coverage.

Bring back Frew MacMillan and Christine Janes!

The Men's Final coverage was dire. Russell Fuller is the male version of Eleanor Oldroyd.
Mary Pierce is very adept at stating the bleedin' obvious, and Jeff Tarango has an annoying voice. David Law is good, but plays second fiddle to Fuller in the pecking order.

Yet again, we had endless chatter while points are being played and eventually a bit of live play by play commentary would be given so we could catch up with the score.

Simply not good enough. I really don't care whether Mary Pierce ever smashed her racket, not whilst a rally is being played in the Men's Final of the US Open. Do they assume we are watching on TV aswell as listening on radio so don't have to describe the action?

Colin Murray's coming back for Fighting Talk. Wonder if he'll do other shows as well or go to another station midweek?

Great to hear Rachel back this morning. Also great to hear that Clare is splitting the week with her for the forseeable.

I was even warming to Nicky, who brought flowers and chocolates. God love him!

I think they assume the listeners will get bored if they focus on the match so they have to talk about other things, even while the action is taking place. If cricket had never been broadcast until this decade, we probably wouldn't get commentary on every ball that is bowled.

Another thing they talk over is national anthems of other countries when they are receiving medals at the Paralympics.

Inverdale is the king of being able to do this without intruding on the actual action.

A shame that Peter Allen's final daily show on the station after 22 years on air has gone so much under the radar. A gem of a broadcaster who will be greatly missed. He deserved a far better send off than the appalling segment recorded by Garvey and Anand.

I've just watched a riveting Question Time on BBC and tuned in to 5live to listen to the usual phone in, only to find this nonsense from Brazil is still filling the airwaves.

Going by previous comments isn't that what people call the after QT phone in anyway - or maybe its just the presenter (Nolan) just that ruins it?

I tuned in for QT as well. Nolan isn't back until Sunday. This must be the longest time he has ever been away from our airwaves. It would have been very welcome if he hadn't been replaced by never ending sport. After this summer of it, I have almost completely moved over to LBC. It really is time that all sport was on 5Live Extra and 5Live could be a rolling news and discussion channel.

news and sports station covering sport... its outragious! don't worry you'll have your endless text ins about your favourite tv show or what you think of UKIP back on air next week! I can hardly wait...

News and sport is fair enough, but not to be taken over by sport.

but sports fans could say exactly the same when the station gets taken over by big news stories. Its only been a few weeks of disruption, people really need to get over it. I'd understand the complaints more if people on the forum actually seemed to enjoy the programmes that the sport has replaced... but next week it'll be back to moaning about Phil Williams and Nolan.

Unbelievable that they aren't covering the Davies Cup Tennis on either of the stations.

I heard them say it was sharing 5Live Extra with the Paralympics. Its on BBC2.

It's called 5 Live. The name implies it will cover things that are happening live. How anybody can genuinely miss the Question Time Extra Time phone-in I do not know. It is one of the worst national phone-ins I've ever heard. It is engineered so that what callers say fits into some sort of Westminster Bubble perspective that does not reflect how callers really feel.

Yes , they take Question Time LIVE, followed by a phone in. It's the only current affairs phone in they do all week. Agree that Nolan is dreadful, but they used to have Pienaar to ease us through the idiot callers, the new guy still setting in.

How does Dotun's Jukebox fit into the News & Sport remit on the station?

Finally the constant prattle of the Paralympics finished - and that's what it was, an endless series of interviews and chatter, little live action, for hours on end - and we got a return of Dotun spinning discs. Why doesn't he join a music station if he wants to do an hour on choosing records?

Very poor. This weekend has been a struggle to find speech radio worth listening to, crap on every station.

If for some reason I don't fancy Five Live, I normally go with the World Service.

Was enjoying the F1 on sports extra until it was quickly removed for the tennis.

A number of posters, myself included, have been asking this question for years. The whole feature, which seems to be never ending, is completely out of place on the station. I suppose it makes for cheap radio but it comes across as 5 Live management just letting Dotun do his own thing. And these days it's not just an hour, it's two hours of pure self-indulgence. And it's completely unlistenable. Fortunately, most weeks these days I'm asleep when Dotun does that part of his programme!

To be fair it is the graveyard shift. It's not like many people are tuning in at that time, plus they've probably got nothing else to fill those hours with so they probably let him get on with it.

It's bizarre because The World Football Phone-In is always worth listening to, and then the next night you've got the Jukebox nonsense. Total changes in quality and entertainment value.

If you want to ring in just for the hell of it and try and get a song you like played, which I'll admit I have done, only succeeded once and got the first minute of The Bends by Radiohead played, then it's a fun feature.

Just for listening to though, I agree, pointless.

I remember a few people cringing when he thought a caller had asked for Dr Feelgood by Roxette, not the other way round.

5 Live could do what CBC do overnights, and broadcast international programming from international broadcasters in other countries.
