I like Tony Livesey and enjoy listening to him. I think that when he is paired with Caroline Barker, the chat is excellent

I listened to Emma Barnett for the whole show this morning and thought she was very good. I also like Tony Livesey, but sometimes listen to Iain Dale depending on what the subjects are.

Apparently we don't talk about period pain on the radio. Strange that because I'm sure there was a feature on it 2 days ago

Looks like we're going to have a feminist agenda foisted on us by this presenter and her producer.

Well she was Women's Editor of the Telegraph. I don't think she has a good enough voice for radio. Used to be radio broadcasters needed to have a clear, well modulated speaking voice. No longer. Any old hack will do now.
Yesterday she was talking to former TV Exec David Elstein and a Bake Off Finalist, and just as the discussion was getting interesting, ie Elstein was starting to lay into channel 4's motives for stealing a BBC show, Emma Borenet pipes up with "we have to go to the news headlines". Really? You couldn't have let Elstein finish his point and delay the news for one minute? Someone should tell Campbell.

I was rather horrified at some of the texts that were sent in, ie " Can I have motor bike leave if the weather's nice ? "

I bet if men had excruciating stomach cramps a couple of days a month , they wouldn't text radio programmes with such flippant remarks.

If they did suffer like this, I think better pain relief would have been invented.!

Whizzing about on a motor bike in the sun, is hardly comparable with being doubled up with pain.

I felt so sorry for the 13 year old who was sick & fainted at school because her stomach cramps were so bad

The BBC's unprofessional tantrum over GBBO needs to stop now. That was one of the main stories on drive yesterday. This morning I put on 55 Live and they were talking about periods. I switched over in seconds.

Well who is to blame for that? On one hand women want equality then on the other it's any old excuse for a day off.

I've gone to work feeling totally sh1t, it's what people do especially if other people rely on you.

Imagine if the railways were employing mostly women who could take a day off for 'period' pain when the liked. It would be chaos.

Lots of people have other pains, plenty of men suffer with bad back pain but put up with it and get on with the job.

I agree. I really don't give a toss about cooking shows, period pains of what Brady and Angela or whatever they are called might be doing in their marriage.

Unfortunately most news has been dumbed down to appeal to a certain segment of the female population and it's then shoved down our throats.

If you look at the garbage turned out by ITV which appeals to the same demographic the ratings are abysmal but the BBC and Sky are determined to shove it down our throats as well.

Fatty Holmes on Sky News suggested that Brady and Angela were the story we all wanted to know about....um no, I went for a poo instead.

I'm not suggesting women should have a day off, I'd think there'd be a back lash , however anyone who's in pain at work, for what ever reason is entitled to some sympathy.

I bet women who have really bad stomach cramps at work, which is slowing them up a bit , don't mention it, however bad they feel , because it's not the done thing !

Is it 1973? He'll be complaining about women burning their bras next.

Listening to the VJ last night. If I could have been bothered getting out of bed, I could have been a total pedant. Someone requested The Proclaimers - "I Would Walk 500 Miles".

The Proclaimers don't have a song called that.

Anyway, Dotun played "I'm Gonna Be".

I missed the chosen song, as I drifted off near the end.

What sort of schedule would anyone like 5 live to have, and is it achievable

I couldn't give a full schedule but I would like to see changes to the weekday shows. The daytime shows seem very bland now. I would like to see the return of proper news programmes at breakfast/midday/drive with more entertaining magazine shows mid morning and afternoon. Also I would like half hour of news in the evening 10.30 -11.00 followed by a phone -in 11-12 discussing the news of the day.

News and sport.

None of the agenda driven nonsense we've had for too long at 10am.

A complete clear out of the afternoon presenters, producers and researchers. Use a presenter with a personality who can engage with an audience and who has the wit and knowledge to think on their feet when interviewing.

I used to think Sybil Ruscoe was awful, but Brett is the worst presenter in the station's history.

but presumably LD, only the news and sport you are interested in as anything else is just political correctness gone mad...
the week day schedule needs a shake-up. breakfast 6-9, the morning show (with one presenter doing it all week) 9 til 12 with the mid-day news being brought back from 12 til 1 for starters.

I usually listen to the TV Review hour, which they've now moved to Mondays at 3pm, but I can't bear Nihal. He is totally unsuited for such a show. Midway through he gave a lecture asking "how much worse does it have to get in Aleppo before WE do something?"
What do you suggest, oh simplistic Nihal? Ofcourse he didn't say what exactly.

This show needs ONE presenter and a proper newsreader. Preferably someone with a brain.

The final hour of Emma Barnet's internet countdown last night had Dom Joly on, who grew up in Lebanon and knew Syria well. A much more educated and knowledgeable view on the subject was given. Frankly, give him a phone in, he sounds a very interesting and eloquent person.

Nihil should never have been given his own show on a national radio station. Awful.
I used to listen to 5 live throughout the day whenever I could... don't listen at all except to the sport now.

Yesterday morning, immediately after Five Live’s broadcast of John McDonnell’s speech, ‘more on’ issued from the lips of Adrian Chiles. I heard that as one word and, whilst it’s possible that he was mouthing two, it may be time to reassess Chiles’s perspicacity – maybe he is not as he appears and sounds!

Yes they gave him some shows as stand-in and it was obvious he was very dull & not somebody you want to listen to for 3 hours...so they give him a main daytime show! Do they just not hear what we are hearing or is there a lack of talent about?

Guess it will be the Big Sam show(s) today.

Certainly Alan Green seemed to enjoy digging the knife into Allardyce but then does he like anyone....

There's history between the two. Green was banned from Bolton's ground by Allardyce after criticising the team's football.
