Had the SERIOUS misfortune to have had to listen to Mayo and Kermode earlier today and this may go against the majority feeling but those two are so far up their own backsides I'm surprised they don't come out the other end. It was crap radio years agao and its even worse now

Is there anything more mind-numbing than golf on the radio? Surely the whole Ryder Cup event and endless discussion about it could have been put on Sports Extra.

Totally agree with you 1 minute updates like Talksport would be enough.

Couldn't disagree more, to be honest. I think it's one of the best shows on the station. Kermode is knowledgeable and insightful, Mayo is effortlessly professional and their banter is entertaining.

It has been a good opportunity to catch up with a few podcasts. Talk Sport reception around here is terrible.

I will will probably watch the final hour or two on TV to see who wins but I just find golf on the radio to be the most tedious thing ever. I don't know why as I love cricket on R4 LW and Sports Extra - and that is another sport involving hitting a ball around a big field with a stick.

I was following the golf on radio yesterday and while I disagree with it being mind-numbing I agree it would have been better of on R5SX and not have the irritating news and other sport interruptions. As far I can see there was one evening footy match commentary that it clashed with which could have been on R5L for 90 minutes and caused much less disruption overall.

I listened and it was a hard work, not because of the panellists directly but there was a lot of talking over each other which made it difficult. Sutton is very forthright which is refreshing but I didnt think it worked with him and Savage being on the same panel

Totally disagree with this post, although i could understand if you were a casual listener or someone who just doesn't get the rytham of this programme how that opinion would be formed.

This is very good in my opinion and a perfect BBC type show. Informs...educates....informs.

The reason a lot of people listen to this and don't really like films or go to the pictures is the banter between the two presenters....but it won't be for all.

What you realise is that K and M are very knowledgeable and know what they are talking about.

The banter that goes with this from time to time in the show is like any banter...... which might at times not work.

However it's what C4 have forgotten with the GBBO....Its the presenters in the main that raise that programme from a cake making show to something that appeals to many. They better get great replacements for Mel, Sue and Mary

I often don't listen when K and M are not on....many I know who like the show do the same.

IMO.....This is excellent radio

Fair point

I need to word this post carefully as I am bound to set myself up with the reply. I must confess I have never listened to the full two hour slot from this pair-it would be worse IMHO than pulling teeth but if i am on a late lunch on a Friday and its on in the car I have listened to 10 minutes here or 20 minutes there but remember them from when the show was an hour long a few years ago which was as far as I am concerned just about listenable

I can watch Kermode when he is on the news channel without having the urge to turn over as the slot is normally only about 15 minutes but two hours on the radio allows far too much time for himself and Mayo to pontificate with self indulgent crap

Hey DUHO....it's good that your even thinking of wording a post carefully as many don't!!!
😄😄
Totally see your point....presenting is such an art....how good for instance was Des Lynam...effortless....and yet Steve Ryder as professional as he was I didn't like...yet many did.....I don't like Nicholas Parsons and yet Just a Minute has been going ages and is SO popular.

There were some that didn't like WOGAN😱

How nice to see people having different opinions without actually insulting one another.

Cheers mate

I always try to be constructive on here when disagreeing with a poster but feel its more than a bit sad if someone hurls an insult just because they disagree but of course by hurling an insult they are giving me a right of reply

The trouble with the Kermode and Mayo show is that it has become way too self-indulgent. I seem to remember a post from years ago that said it had jumped the shark and I think I agree.

I love Kermode's reviews and I think that Simon's interviews are OK, if a little formulaic, but what lets the show down is the listener input and the references to it. There is far too much time given over to reading out emails rather than actually reviewing films! This gets even worse on the podcast.

Did anyone hear the start of Nolan's show last night? He got clearance to say the bleeped out words of Trump's old locker room video. I wondered why? What Editorial decision deemed that this story should lead a British National radio news show? Nolan spoke in his usual tones like he was imparting the news that WW3 had broken out. Truly bizarre.
Not for the first time, this show gets it wrong. The whole Production team needs a shake up. And before anyone says, well, don't listen. Speech radio is a dead zone at the weekend after 10pm. There's little choice, as I flick around, it's all crap.

How did the show get it wrong? Did the BBC receive any complaints? Are kids listening to Nolan on 5live? Is the story not leading all the news outlets today? The story broke as the programme came on air, they bleeped the audio but Stephen, for context, said one slightly rude word once. I can't honestly see how this means the show got it wrong.

The BBC isn't there to do what all the other nes outlets are doing. Anybody who thinks that story is more important than over 900 people dying in Haiti after the country was hit by a hurricane should not be involved in editorial decisions.

On Friday night at 10pm the main political story was the UKIP dust up in Strasbourg, leading to an MEP, and potential Leader, being in hospital having collapsed, and all the goings on around that, was, I would say, more appropriate for a British National news channel. It happens every 4 years, the BBC becomes obsessed with the US Elections, and we get saturation coverage. Meanwhile I know nothing about the lives of people in various regions of the UK, yet I get in depth coverage of the concerns of folk in Wyoming USA. Why? The BBC gives us the news it thinks we should have, but I, for one, don't want it. I want to hear about Britain.

Absolutely right. I find it very frustrating that when these events are on, the station stops all normal news/other-sports coverage and the inane commentary, (complete with idiotic references to players showing such as bravery), just goes on and on; (possibly the only thing worse is all the coverage of the Olympics, which I'd suggest is, like golf, a minority interest). It must be that certain key players at the station have themselves an all-consuming interest in the game and force their passion onto the rest of us. Surely golf is a terribly boring game to play and sleep-inducing to watch: but to LISTEN to it? - where on earth is the sanity in that concept?
