I think Media City has become a bubble of self-satisfaction and arrogance, that they are "the best" and are reflecting the regions, they aren't. You can read it in the opinions of presenters via their tweets that their programming is superior. It begs the question, have they listened to other stations? They might not be so smug.”

Yes I totally agree with all of this and that LBC reflects the views of people nationwide whereas Radio Five Lifeless has now almost isolated itself in a pocket with its over concentration on a certain part of the UK.If you have a radio station continuously harking and banging on about Manchester/ North West in an attempt to just to prove a point that the BBC does actually broadcast outside of a London hub ,then of course you are going to alienate waves of listeners from the rest of the UK. The BBC is not as good or smart as they think they are.

As regards a comment that BBC '' impartial '' presenters are somehow restricted from expressing their point of view as opposed to presenters on commercial stations, I don't think that has ever stopped the one eyed Stephen Nolan giving us all his opinions at all and BTW how the heck is Dotun Adebayo still broadcasting on this station or any radio station for that matter ?

Breakfast and drive are weaker than ever. I wouldn't be surprised if the station has lost listeners because of the changes that have been made to those shows in recent years. I doubt it is because people disagree with the station broadcasting from Salford instead of Birmingham or because people think the content between breakfast and drive is worse without Victoria Derbyshire or Richard Bacon.

I don't listen regularly because the news coverage isn't as good as it should be and I have little interest in the misery or triviality. Although I am not keen on some presenters, it is the content that primarily influences my listening decision.”

It is sad as I too used to be a keen listener to five live. But the truth is that it was changed and dumbed down. If we look at what happened to supposed stars we saw Victoria Derbyshire switch to BBC2 and generate record low audiences and Shelagh Fogerty go to LBC and even in a successful time for it see an audience plunge.

Enjoyed hearing Ben Wright on QT Extra Time last night. Heartbreaking calls of people's experiences dealing with the DWP. I appreciate having QT broadcast on radio, as by then I am ready for bed and always listen on earphones, so would prefer not to have the woman voicing the sting of "Thursday Night Is Question Time on 5Live" quite so LOUD in my eardrum.
Ben was alot better than the miserable, argumentative Scot last week, who clearly isn't used to shutting up for 5 seconds to listen to a caller. Though, as always, Nolan allows people to become repetitive rather than thanking a caller and moving on. The fella from Liverpool whose brother had suffered brain damage after a car crash being a case in point. Also there was 10 seconds of silence at one point, I think the engineers switched the call off for broadcast, but Nolan was still talking to the caller in the studio? Strange, and an embarrassing prolonged silence that the studio presenters seemed unaware of.

On the contrary, after Bacon left I gave the new Afternoon Show a few weeks but didn't like the show and have, apart from Mayo & Kermode and Danny Baker (both of which I podcast) I've stopped listening

Tonight it's all about property with Gabby Logan yawn. Also it is all about Brexit too! Yawn.

Didn't Gabby try her own Brexit when she uttered "Don't you know who I am?" on Eurostar?

Just tuned in at midday for the afternoon sport and notice something which has always struck me as odd

The programme is based today at West Ham's stadium................but the 3 o'clock commentary is from Manchester City

So why have they sent a team of presenters, technical staff etc to West Ham ?

They do this quite regularly............have the programme from one stadium but don't have commentary on the match at that stadium

Seems odd.............

Disappointed no Danny Baker this morning . . then furious to find he's replaced by the idiot Murray. Few come anywhere near his level of puerility (e.g. Dotun Whateverhisnameis) and O'Brien) and I'd like to know why on earth the station management employs someone so unqualified - by personality/technique - to broadcast.

The BBC is awash with cash to chuck away ,just pretends to plead poverty. the Station tends to broadcast from where its rival has a 3pm commentary. This is regular policy

Jonathan Overend is presenting isn't he? He's London based so they are saving money by not paying for him to get to Manchester or anywhere else.

No. He isn't "London based". He lives in Berkshire. 52 miles away. And frequently travels to Northern grounds if that is where the programme is anchored that day. 5Live doesn't have any London Football reporters the way they employ regular people in the Midlands, like Pat Murphy, or North East correspondents, whose voices you always hear. It's been a bug bear of mine for years.

Baker isn't on for another 5 weeks - he's on the next series of I'm a Celebrity.

Talking about wasting money, Rachel Burden has just reported live from Reno, Nevada, and now she's travelling to New York for Election Night. Because the pool of BBC Correspondents based in the US aren't as knowledgeable as a Cheshire based part time presenter just back from Maternity Leave.

It astonishes me a station like 5Live can afford the expense of sending it's own reporter/engineering staff just to cover an event being extensively covered already by the BBC. The sooner the new policy on not sending presenters abroad comes into effect the better.

and she was more concerned with some egg chasing game that was taking place last night than reporting on events surrounding the US Election.

I can see why Rachel is in New York. Come Tuesday and Wednesday there will be so many outlets wanting something from the USA that it is impractical to have one of the the corresspondents designated to presenting a breakfast programme from the states for three hours.

However, what does annoy me is this constant idea that Five Live should broadcast from bars, cafes and restaurants. It's ok if If there's not too many people about in.

But Stephen Nolan did a programme from a Liverpool bar/pub on the Saturday night of the Labour leadership constest when, for large parts of the discussion, we could not hear what was being said. What we could hear was some X Factor reject (and how bad has that got to be) murdering the classics and those around her shouting for attention at the bar.

There were times this morning when the lubricated midnight crowd in Reno were not the ideal backdrop for our more refined consumption of wheatybangs over the breakfast table. At times, we were straining to hear. The same happened when Stephen Nolan was in Lousianna.

As good as the concept of being in a bar where people drink and let their hair down seems also to be a really good place to get good discussion going...if you can't hear it, what's the point? And so often on these occasions the guests are shouting above the crowd. Surely the first point of any radio programme is that the listener should be able to hear it and follow the programme with ease. I was listening on DAB and struggling, it must have sounded horrendous on mediium wave. Five Live should take risks and be out there where it is happening. But surely someone now has realised that broadcasting from bars is at the best fool hardy. Its as if they forget that last, yet most vital of ingredients, the listeners. Someone at the other end is trying to hear it!!!!!

As for the recent points about The Bishop. I really really don't get why Five Live give this man airtime every week. I think its just to wind me up.

Why do we have to hear about the US Elections for 3 hours at Breakfast? Do we not have plenty of news to report from here and around the world?
This constant fascination with America is tedious. Just report the events taking place, which a Correspondent is perfectly capable of doing. The Presenters in Salford should then continue with the programme and discussions therein.
That's how News programmes used to be. Now it's fly everyone and his dog out to far flung places, just to stand around, in a noisy environment, talking to people who repeat the same things over and over. It just fills airtime. And is a colossal waste of money.

Wow what a time to interrupt David Davis, and he was interrupted in a rather immature manner.

In America do they have mass coverage of our elections?

And news in general like we do here.

Their news media is sadly more inward looking. They don't have an equivalent of 5 Live where both sides of an argument are presented.
