I can understand people feeling that there is too much coverage of a US Election but it's hardly just 5Live who would be guilty of this, it's more a general media point.

I can understand having a presenter in the US helps this week, is it 100% needed? Probably not but 5Live has a budget & can spend it accordingly.

I am really enjoying Rachel Burden's reports. I think it is justified (not certain about the trip to Nevada), but the breakfast show should have an anchor in New York tomorrow morning. It'll be the biggest story on the planet.

Your Call still doing its thing of allowing several callers on air at once. All I can hear is heavy breathing, someone constantly sniffing their runny nose, and people talking over each other. Back to LBC.

Looks like 5live haven't got over the Donster winning yet. Guest after guest and caller after caller slagging him off.

I don't think most of the world has got over it yet. It only happened a few hours ago.

"That was Barack Obama who is still president. It's not the same as our system".

No Anna, it isn't the same as our system. We don't have a president.

Drive has just spent all of 3 minutes on the Croydon Tram crash where 7 people died, and 50 are injured in 2 different hospitals. St. George's Hospital declared it a major emergency. These people are British citizens.

Instead our entire media, TV and Radio News channels, spend the whole day droning on about the US Election Results.

An utter disgrace and the wrong editorial decisions this crash was ignored.

I'm disgusted.

Morning..

Whilst I agree more time needed to be spent on this story on a national level, as it is a local public transport accident yesterday I can see why this didn't happen.

It has had massive coverage on local media where the impact has been of course keenly felt on the nearby population and family and friends on people in the tram. Been great coverage from that POV and as an incident in a Surrey town rather than say a London train terminal or major international airport it is more a local story rather than a national.

The election of any American president is important, but especially DT. There will be many far reaching aspects to his election. That was the worlds top story of the day and on a national radio station on that day the massive coverage was correct.

It would have been better if there had been more on this sad event and I suspect on another day it would have.....but sadly not yesterday.

I have some sympathy with the view that the tram accident didn't get the coverage it deserved.

When a tram overturns, 7 people are killed and 50 injured then it deserves better coverage than sending (what appeared to be) one reporter.

I realise Mr. Trump is a global story, but I think the balance of the output was simply wrong and more should have been made of the terrible events in London.

That said, I have really enjoyed Rachel's pieces from the USA. I think she has been great. I just wish they would stop trying to broadcast from very noisy places. It just detracts from hearing what people have to say. Given that Rachel seems to do the bigger stories these day, is she seen as being the lead anchor ? (as they say in the states)

On a third point, I thought Nicky this morning morphed into Alan Partridge, endlessly quoting lyrics and for no real reason other than he can recite the lyrics.

Excellent post radiotuner and agree with it all, apart from the fact there was just one reporter....remember local BBC was all over the story as well as national.

Interestingly what has happened is re the tram story is that over the next few days on 5 as well as LBC the coverage and analysis of the tram story has increased. It's been an interesting excercise in how the news gets covered in fact.

Give the place a free name check and the BBC team probably get free food and drink.

I don't think that we do either. Any alternative viewpoint to austerity is so heavily censored or ridiculed by the Beeb these days that I believe it's challenging Fox News for pursuing a right wing agenda in the most crawly-bumlick way possible.

So when an event over runs aon 5 Live, as the Brazilian Grand Prix just has, why can't the BBC use 5Live sports extra.

Either the event itself could switch channels (it's done fairly often anyway) or the originally scheduled programme could be moved over.

It's shouldn't be a case of "oh well, it was only . . . " . Whatever the programme scheduled it will have people waiting to listen to it.

Give the existence of the extra channel, why is it not used?

5 Live is a live news and live sport station. Any programme, no matter how good or engaging, can be delayed, disrupted or cancelled because of live news or live sport.

Stephen Nolan's programme has occasionally been interrupted for live boxing. Afternoon Edition is cancelled during Wimbledon.

One exception to all this is football. If another event finished later than planned and consequently it meant a clash with the football, the football would take priority, as it did during the Olympics and during the terrorist attacks on Paris a year ago when England's football team were playing.

The Bishop is ranting uncontrollably tonight. Shouting at Charlie Wolf, talking over him and mumbling away even when Wolf gets to speak.

The man is obnoxious.

Because of the rugby? There is more than one sport you know?

Not everyone can get 5live extra easily - makes sense for them to stick with the live sport at such a vital moment.

Probably got more listeners than what ever had to be delayed anyway...

I do wish 5 Live would stop interrupting the flow of Breakfast on a Monday morning at 7.45am for 15 minutes with the Breakfast Club. It's completely unnecessary to take 15 minutes out what is supposed to be a fast moving news programme to discuss football. The main subject this morning was the England v Scotland game, a match which took place two and a half days ago. All that can be said has already been said over the weekend, and has been said numerous times already on various other 5 Live programmes in the past couple of days.
