Five Live has gone straight to the dreadful news from Berlin after the Liverpool derby tonight . The right decision but why rather than telling us what has happened is the presenter Phil Williams in such a rush to tell us it is not confirmed as a terrorist incident? We will find out later so why not wait and see?
These efforts by the BBC to "control" the news flow are I suspect why there is less interest in the station as shown by no-one bothering to post on here for a week. |

to 5 Live, Premier League football is more important than life. That's why they waited 2 hours before covering the Berlin incident.

2 other disabled people (presume that is what you are referring to?) came 5th and 6th though ahead of some quite high profile names and I was surprised I have to say as they aren't as high profile as Sarah Storey.
Even she came ahead of a Masters Champion in one of the more popular sports in Britain (Willett) Do you think Nick Skelton coming 3rd was a bit of a ramped up sob story? |

Are we saying that para-athletes shouldn't get votes?

I suppose it is only when we no longer see people in terms like disabled or paralympians or ageing that we will no longer see anything as a being different to the others. Then we can vote for the best achievement which is what I hope people did on Sunday night. The prestige of the sport should not come into it.
On another matter, I think Rachel and Claire together on breakfast completely illustrates why we should allow Nicky more holidays. The programme is far better and the studio seems far happier. |

5 Live Christmas Day is rubbish this year, no effort made, last year it was alright and I listened to bits, this year I won't be tuning in.

We just don't need the BBC to keep pretending the majority of the population care about disabled sport.
Disabled athletes deserve equal treatment and that's what SPOTY gave, there was no bias shown I sense I'm wasting my time on this with someone who feels that disabled people are second class citizens |

TBH you could say that about a of Olympics sport.
If it was just done on how popular something is all year round we'd just have footballers/cricketer and rugby players along with the odd golfer or athlete selected. Anyway its going off topic. |

Even if you are right about public opinion the BBC as a national broadcaster does have a responsibility towards minority sports. Those who are interested pay their licence fee after all. On a lighter note did anyone else hear Darren Fletcher at 7PM last night saying we have commentary on Everton/ Liverpool on BT sport before hastily correcting himself? |

At times they do certainly but not heard about it for a while...
Maybe because the season has ended and there are no England games coming up. Might be because they are also actually quite good compared to the men... Guess its mainly repeats over Christmas? |

I'm glad someone kept this thread going...I started it way way back when I listened all the time... there was an LBC chit chat but seemed odd not a 5 live one so started one and it grew beyond my expectations....
then had trouble with MW in car anyway so listened less but also got very very tired of the presenters...the endless football silly stories and obsession with it...derbyshire, campbell et al... williams in evening and baker on saturdays.... i know some changes have been made but apart from Kermode on Friday's I just cannot listen to it anymore... so thought I'd drop in and say thanks for keeping it going it's nice to see I just don't have anything to really put in anymore I'm either on LBC or Talk or internet Mod or Northern Soul radio these days... cheers

The majority or the population don't care on a consistent basis about any one sport (eg over 50% of the population)
Disabled athletes deserve equal treatment and that's what SPOTY gave, there was no bias shown I sense I'm wasting my time on this with someone who feels that disabled people are second class citizens |

LBC does indeed have a thread of vast numbers. However if you take out supporters and opponents of James O' Brien slagging each other off out of the equation those numbers would look less impressive.

Thanks for starting this thread, I think like you a lot of us listen to it very little nowadays !
I have it on all night and having to put up with tax break Nolan was the last straw.... Burden was dreadful in morning's.. and so on.... As said above 5live think the Premier League is more important than anything to the detriment of everything else, news and other sports... I far more enjoy Nick Ferrari in morning's, somehow he does 3 hours a day on his own, seems to have dropped paper reviewers lately too while 5 need a job share and two people......after that the goddess (and my next wife) Julia Hartley-Brewer on Talk Radio... can't believe Fogery ended up at LBC and she's no better so afternoons all talk radio stations off until Iain Dale at 4. Evenings Clive Bulll very good and I really enjoy Ian Collins in the week, Nick Abbott used to be funny in the Nolan slot but since Trump and Brexit he's just very miserable... Sorry I know this is 5live but thought would say where I tune in to as a comparison...I recognise posters from talk and LBC threads here so know others are doing similar.... |

A fascinating discussion this afternoon about...make-up.
Meanwhile, Nihal is at a pantomime. |
